"We're just... good at fighting," Gideon muttered, his eyes darting anywhere but at his little egg.
Mirabella narrowed her eyes, stepping closer to him. "And I'm good at drowning people in the sea," she replied, obviously dissatisfied with his lack of explanation.
Eros, leaning against the railing, chuckled at her words. His lips twisted into a half-smile of amusement.
"We... we... were just" Gideon stammered, searching for any reasonable excuse to satisfy her. But before he could finish, a loud, enthusiastic squawk interrupted them. Pipo, having just defeated the enemy's parrot, leaped down from the crow's nest and perched on Mirabella's shoulder.
"Gideon! Crew! Pirates! Pirates!" he talked, pointing a claw accusingly at the captain and his crew.
