Emma's POV
Jessica kept on looking at us. And I was already getting very uncomfortable.
I picked clothes I didn't need just to get my mind off her.
Unfortunately, as I expected, she began to walk in our direction.
Jessica walked up to me, slammed the clothes out if my hands turned right back to meet someone on the queue and walked out.
Lily, Grayson, who was far behind, and Chase just stared on as I picked all the clothes she poured.
"I'm sorry." Lily said.
I was red hot and teary. If I attempted to speak, I definitely would have burst out in tears.
I put all the clothes back on their racks.
There was one Jessica stepped on, I knew I had to pay for that.
"Keys." I said to Lily, stretching my hand.
In her confusion she gave me her house keys.
"Your car." I said, holding her keys back for her to take.
She clumsily took it and handed me her car keys.
I went right out to wait in her car and cried my eyes out while waiting for them to finish up.
Lily was feeling bad for me, but I guess she also didn't want that to ruin her date with Grayson.
Chase was a selfish motherfucker who couldn't care less.
Her car glasses were dark, so no one could see from outside.
I saw Jessica talking to a man that looked quite familiar from behind, but they soon moved out of sight.
"Open up." I was wrong. He came after me. Chase was knocking unrelentingly.
I didn't want to answer at first, because I knew that there was no way Lily would be cool with him in her car.
"I can't step out, Lily wouldn't want you in here." I said, ready to close up the glass.
"Wait." He said, putting his hand in the way.
"What?!" I asked impatiently.
"I have Grayson's keys. We can use his." He said.
"Did you kiss the part where I said I don't want to step out?" I asked him rudely.
"No. But I insist. Now come out." He walked towards Gray's car, opened it and sat in the driver's seat.
Like one on drugs, I dragged my stupid self out of Lily's car and entered Gray's.
"What's up?" He said. Chase's phone was chiming almost every minute. I guess that was his price to pay for being so goddamn popular.
"You mean other than me sitting comfortably with my bully in someone else's car?" I asked him.
"Yeah. Aside from that." Chase replied.
I kinda hated how he watered down my sarcasm. But he also seemed pretty sincere.
"Well, nothing much. Just that his girlfriend seems to think something else is up, and all she does is embarrass me." I added.
"Jessica is not my girlfriend. And before I apologize on her behalf, I want to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything I ever did to hurt you. And I'm also sorry about Jessica." He said.
I didn't know how to react. All I've had to be to him was nasty, and I liked it. Hell, I was so fucking used to it.
"Is that all?" I asked him.
"Uhm. Yeah. If that's all you have to say too." He said.
The awkwardness went from thirty to hundred.
Everyone was silent and I could literally hear our breath.
I kept cursing Lily on my mind, for not coming out to check on me like I'd have done. And break this unfortunate bond I was beginning to form with my Stepbrother.
I was fidgety, but he was as cool as a cucumber.
"So why did you fall out with her?" I asked, for lack of what to say. "I mean, I deserve to know. I got a cloth ruined for what I know nothing about." I added.
"Come on, Emma. That's none of your business." He said.
"All the reasons I gave and it still isn't?" I asked him.
"Yeah. Cause there's more motive to that that you put forth." He said, staring straight into my eyes. "I don't want to be the topic of y'all little meetings. I'm done with all that shit." He added.
"Oh My! You must think mother earth revolves around you." I said, my voice rising. "News flash, you narcissist with a musty ego, it does not!" My breathing had gone hard while I screamed at Chase.
I was already angry at Jessica, so everything was just pissing me off.
"All you're doing right now is passing aggression." He said.
"You can't blame me. You should've left me where I was." I replied to him, irritated at how he was so cool and telling me all that was wrong like he was some therapist.
"I couldn't." He said. "You look pathetic." He added.
"Alright. That's about it for me. Let me out, you condescending motherfucker." I said, banging Grayson's car.
"I can't do that either." He said.
"Why?!" I demanded, very angrily.
"Because…" Chase leaned in and kissed my lips!
I was dumbstruck. It couldn't be. I stared into blank space.
Chase took my head with his hand, positioned it, and kissed me long and hard.
"How's that for a reason?" He asked while wiping my lip gloss off his lips.
I couldn't believe what just happened. I couldn't get past the taste of Chase's lips. And for minutes after he stopped, I still felt his lips on mine.
I wasn't mad anymore, and for that, I was ashamed.
"Let's get out of here now. I don't think you'd be comfortable if they came and saw us here." I sheepishly obeyed him and opened the door.
We'd been outside for barely three minutes before Lily and Gray walked out all cuddly.
She kept looking at my face. I don't know what she expected to see, but she didn't see it, so she was somewhat shocked and uneasy.
They hugged each other before Gray took his keys from Chase and nudged him to get in.
I kept drifting in and out throughout the ride.
I smacked my lips together multiple times to make sure I hadn't been hallucinating.
I threw my scarf over my head to cover the blush that was forming.
"What's up girl?" She asked finally. "You're acting strange."
"Chase kissed me." I blurted before she even completed her second question.
Lily expressed like five different emotions, so fast I couldn't even keep up.
