Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Chase's POV

Jessica was, in fact, I can't describe.

She was a lot of things to me.

We were just mutually fucked kids, and we connected through that.

My dad was involved in stupid shit that claimed my mom's life. Her parents raised to be a supermodel, attractive enough for NBA players and other footballers.

We had been attending the same school since I was ten.

At first, we started off as friends.

Then she hit puberty before me and started hooking up with boys, we still remained friends as most of the guys were quite out of my league.

Then I hit puberty, and hit my growth spurt, and she remembered that I was a guy and not just a friend.

We explored each other's new developing bodies in different corners in school, and nearly got busted a couple of times too.

We became really close, the secrets we had with each other made us even closer.

She made school a fun place, a nice getaway from my dad. And I was only too grateful for it.

Her parents too didn't care about her visitors, so I paid as many visits to her as I could.

"Why are you being a prick? All I did was commend her. I didn't even say it to her face. Besides, why should you even care? You're literally a standard of beauty." I said to her,

She sucked her teeth hard at me and looked away.

"Chase, sometimes you're so dumb I wonder why I walk with you anyway." I was used to a lot more demeaning stuff from her. That was the least in Jessica's weaponry. "It starts by saying stuff like that. Then you think about it, and she begins to see she has certain effects on you, and the story just turns upside down from there." Her tiny voice was on its edge already.

Jessica had some sort of hypertension, and so everytime I made her raise her voice, I felt bad for it.

"You're just overthinking." I brushed her off.

"That's what you always say. That's what you said about Lily." Jessica was talking like it was just the both of us present.

"Now, just shut the fuck up." I said. "Don't just throw her in any and every conversation. Have some decency. You're not so perfect yourself. Far from it actually." I said.

I was gradually getting tired of her bullshit. It was draining. We started out as each other's company, but we were fast turning to other people's nightmares.

The power we exerted on the school was intoxicating at first. But it soon got boring like every other thing we tried, clubbing, drugs, women, even men. Ugh!

College was knocking and it was so fucking boring keeping the same routine.

I knew that to have a decent chance of my dad sponsoring my college, I had to stay home more, and warm the old man's cold heart. All that amount led to what was pissing Jessica off, and I couldn't help it. She was selfish.

"Chase, I have nothing to say to you." She said.

"You shouldn't, cause there's nothing to say." I shot back at her.

Jessica was taken aback. We've had our differences over the years, but nothing really major.

"Chase, you're beginning to sound like a professional cunt." She said, Jessica was irritating me far worse than she knew.

"Man, fuck off!" Apparently, I raised my voice a little too high and we were already gathering the attention of a sizable crowd.

"Don't fucking talk to me like that. You pig!" Jessica spat in my face.

That was about it for me. It was really all I could take.

My anger got the better of me, and I slapped her across the face.

People were already jeering us up from different corners of the hall.

"I hate you." Jessica said. Her face was already so red, I had begun to feel bad.

A few of our mutuals ushered her away, while Grayson, my closest friend after Jessica, slung an arm over my shoulder and said to get out of there.

"What you did was down below man." Grayson said as soon as we got out of the school building.

I knew that too, but Jessica was going way too far with her hate.

 "I know man." I said.

He punched me playfully in the shoulder and we headed for his car.

Grayson always brought his car to school, and my dad never allowed me to. It was either him or a chauffeur.

Next to us, Lily and Emma were getting into one of my dads convertibles. Emma probably requested the chauffeur come with that.

"Are you sure your mom won't be pissed when she gets here and finds out that you've left?" I overheard Emma ask Lily.

"Come on! It's good to be a disappointment once in a while. And thank you for asking for the convertible, as I requested." The only reason Lily's voice could've been that chirpy around me, was because she didn't know I was around.

I asked Grayson to wait while they backed out of the lot and drove off, before we followed suit.

"What's up with you man? Really." He asked after shooting me a strange glance.

"I've been asking myself that same question, everyday, for a week now." I answered him, with a sigh.

"Come on man! Something is definitely off, and you know it." He said again.

"That's what I just said, Silly. Now, will you keep your eyes on the road and concentrate on getting us both home safe?" I was still mad, and trying hard to not pass the aggression on him.

"But Emma being your stepsister is wild though." Chase said. "We both know you've been a sucker for girls like that since forever."

"You just don't know when to shut the fuck up man." I replied to him.

"Yeah. You've kinda always known that." Grayson was having a little too much satisfaction from pissing me off.

"It's my mistake, really." I said, looking out of the window.

"What was it you said about stalking her in the gardens again?" if Grayson wasn't driving, he'd have suffered the same fate Jessica did.

But the fool was my homie still.
