Richard had just touched Ashley's left cheek to her right, and all he felt was smooth skin.
What? Ashley suddenly tensed up, clenching her fists. Oh no, she had forgotten that scars usually feel bumpy. Had she been found out?
"Where's your scar?" Richard demanded sternly.
Ashley's heart skipped a beat.
"Uh... didn't you see? I've been applying moisturizer every day. The scar... the scar has faded a lot, so it doesn't feel bumpy anymore."
Ashley made up a story, but after her explanation, the man still seemed doubtful.
"Can lotion really make that much of a difference?"
"Yeah, of course. I've been taking care of my skin since I was little. The small changes add up over time. It might feel normal to the touch, but the scar is still there. It looks pretty ugly."
