Chapter 5 - cruelty

Alice woke up the next day, she went to brush. She washed her face and looked up, in the mirror. She found that her ocean blue eyes were turned to scarlet red eyes and her silver hair faded to red at the tips and she grew a little fang. She was surprised to look at herself.

Later she made herself a little breakfast and was strangely surprised to find that all the windows were covered with some thick black cloth. As she finished, she opened one, she started to burn, she closed the window and the burning slowed down. She thought for a moment and remembered lucifer's words, "demons are made under the moon, so demons are capable to have some sunlight, but not as much as humans can, and there is a pigment called magnitcalox, It may help to overcome sunlight"

Remembering these words, she ran to Arthur's room and found that half of the crib was covered in sunlight while Arthur was crying in the corner of his crib with some burn marks.

Alice quickly covered the window and took her son and started to console him and fed him some milk. The burns started to disappear and he tightly held onto Alice and never left her for that day. Alice couldn't do anything, so she started to sing the lullaby she wrote for him. Slowly Arthur fell asleep. She put him on a sofa and made the pillows to be the guard rail.

As she finished, Richard came home. She started to cry in his arms and said, "richard, I don't know what to do now"

"What happened, why are you crying alice?" He asked. "Our son can not regenerate like me," she replied. "What do you mean, he's a demon right?" Richard asked. "He is, but he doesn't have the energy now and I can't give him blood, it would be dangerous for him" replied alice.

After some talking, alice came up with an idea. She studied magnitcalox is just a combination of magnesium oxide and calcium nitride. She also found that this pigment generates a cell wall similar to that of plants, but has a different compound. So she did some research and found that blood lavender has magnesium oxide and lily of the sun has calcium nitride.

She searched for eight years, until then, she kept Arthur inside the house, homeschooling him.

She found these plants and took them and made a compound of a purple lavender blue colour. She took a thin slice of her skin and put a drop of the compound in that and she was astounded to find that it quickly reacted with the cells, so she drank some and took another thin slice and viewed it under the microscope and found that the cells have a cell wall now.

She was happy that she found a solution, and told it to richard. He congratulated her and gave a big hug. Alice then mixed some of the compound with some warm milk and gave it to Arthur. "Arthur, drink this" she told him.

He took the glass and drank the milk and went to sleep. As Arthur went to sleep, alice went down and asked Ricard what they could do for his ninth birthday, which was the next day, he replied, "Maybe we should make him his favourite fruit cake for him"

And after that, both of them took to baking. All night both of them decorated and made the cake and silently invited everyone.

The next day, Arthur woke up. "Surprise!!!" His family shouted. He was surprised, but was happy that all his family members were there. He hugged them and got gifts from his cousins, grandparents, siblings and his parents.

They had the breakfast prepared by Richard, "delicious" was the comment on everyone's part. With a gentle bite Arthur said, "thanks dad, this is the best breakfast.".. "No need son, your father is not only a pro designer, but also a pro cook" replied richard.

They talked after breakfast till evening. "Alright guys, it's time to cut the cake" said Alice and brought the two tiered cake. Tears started to roll from Arthur's eyes. "What happened dear, is something bothering you, or is it that the cake is not your taste?" Alice asked him. "No mom, I think it's the first time I am celebrating my birthday with the whole family" He replied.

Alice started to feel sad and hugged him and said, "I am sorry dear, from this year, we will celebrate your birthday with the whole family, ok"

Wiping the tears off his face, Arthur said ok and started to cut the cake as the family sang the happy birthday song.

After the cake cutting everyone went to sleep.

The next morning Arthur woke up and went to brush. As he washed his face, he was shocked to see himself, but he looked like a vampire with sharp fangs and his aquamarine blue eyes had turned to scarlet red eyes, just like his mother's.

He ran to Alice who was drinking her morning coffee. "Mom, look!" He excitedly said. Alice took a closer look and realised that he had become a full demon. "Isn't it cool, I look like the demons or vampires from the book that you read for me?" He said.

Then, the atmosphere grew cold as Alice said, "dear, I want to tell you something", "What is it mom?" Arthur asked cheerfully, Alice replied, "it's that, ... , 'sigh',... , will you come with me", "Yes, mom" He replied and followed her, but didn't exit the house. "No mom, I can't, it burns when I leave the house," He told. "It's ok, mom's with you, now come outside," Alice said as she grabbed his hands and slowly walked him out as he tightly closed his eyes.

"Arthur, look, you are not burning" said alice. Hearing this, Arthur slowly opened his eyes, he found no burn marks and hugged his mother in joy and followed her to the park.

"Why are we here mom?" He asked. "This is the place where I have met someone out of this world. He's the one who gave me the blessing to have you dear" she replied. "What mom?, who?" He asked. "He's Lucifer" said Alice "and, we are not ordinary humans, but we are demons" she continued.

Arthur looked confused, but he came up with something to cheer his sad looking mother up. "Really mom, I thought it was just an allergy, but we are real demons, it's so amazing!" He said.

As she heard this, Alice laughed a bit and said, "you're just like your father, he always makes me happy", she continued, "Since you have learned the truth and have become a full demon, you have to drink human blood".

"I am a bit nervous, but I can do it," replied Arthur. After hearing this, Alice chuckled and went home. She told Richard about it and told him that she's going to teach him how to hunt.

As night fell, Arthur and Alice left wisperford for brassfield.

As they approached Brassfield, the streets were cold and dark, perfect for a hunt. Alice stopped in her tracks, as she reached into her bag, She pulled out a black cape and a sharp, gleaming glass knife, handing them both to Arthur.

"Arthur, wear this and take this knife. I know that it is scary for you, but you have to, dear" she said quietly, her eyes darting nervously to the side.

Arthur, bewildered, took the items, trusting his mother implicitly. He watched as she pointed toward a man sitting on a worn bench, staring out at the still waters of the lake. The man's presence seemed out of place, almost... unnatural.

Without hesitation, Alice nudged Arthur forward. His heart pounded in his chest as he approached the man, gripping the knife tightly. He raised it, steeling himself, and thrust it downward into the stranger's back.

But as the blade sank in, Arthur froze. The sensation was all wrong—the skin, the feel beneath the blade, it wasn't human. Before he could process it, the figure twisted, revealing a man with deep red eyes and sharp fangs.

Arthur screamed for his mother, but it was too late. In one swift motion, the man grabbed them both, his strength unnatural and terrifying. He dragged them through the darkness, toward a looming, crumbling manor, its windows like hollow eyes watching the scene.

Once inside, Marcus flung them to the sofa and started to introduce himself, "Ah, introductions. How rude of me," he said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Marcus. The first demon ever created by Lucifer himself. A servant of darkness, forever in search of immortality. But... the sunlight," he hissed, "It holds me back. It limits me."

Alice, her breath ragged, pulled Arthur close, clutching him protectively. "You're a monster" she spat, her voice filled with fear and the thought of saving her child.

Marcus chuckled. "Monster?" His glowing eyes narrowed. "Oh, Alice, you and your child are no different. You carry the same potential for monstrosity within you. It's only a matter of time before you realise."

Their eyes locked in silence, a silent battle of will before Marcus clapped his hands. "Take them away," he ordered his servants. Arthur and Alice were separated, locked in different rooms. The servants provided them with plenty of food and water, but they were under constant observation. Days turned into weeks, their only company was the sound of footsteps outside their doors.

A month passed before Marcus made his move. He entered Alice's room, his eyes gleaming with dark intent. He approached her, ignoring her protests, and drew blood from her, injecting it into his own veins. He stumbled back as a burning sensation coursed through his body, but it faded quickly, replaced by a newfound strength. He smirked, pleased.

After that, he found that Alice's blood contained a lot of solar energy, and decided to give her a good use later.

Next, he entered Arthur's room, where the boy sat sobbing quietly. Without a word, Marcus took a large vial of Arthur's blood and drank it, his eyes fluttering shut as he felt the effects. His smirk widened.

The next day, Marcus returned. This time, he came with a butcher's knife, his steps slow and deliberate. Arthur had fallen asleep in the corner of the room. Marcus knelt beside him, his cold eyes gleaming with malice, and with a swift motion, he severed Arthur's right arm. The boy awoke in unimaginable pain, his screams filling the manor as blood flowed freely from the wound. Too young and weak to regenerate, Arthur was left writhing, barely conscious.

Marcus feasted on the severed arm as he left the room.

The next day, Marcus found Arthur lying breathless, but somehow still alive. Satisfied with his experiment, he took his blood and forced Alice to feed it to her son. She refused, weeping and begging, but when Marcus threatened to kill him, she finally relented, tears streaming down her face as she fed him and put him to sleep. She was immediately taken back to her room, collapsing in despair as she realised the horrors she had been forced to commit.

That night, something terrifying occurred.

Arthur awoke in a fit of violent energy. His right arm regenerated almost instantly, but the boy that arose was no longer the same. His eyes glowed with hunger, his mouth salivating uncontrollably. He was a monster now, fully awakened. Without hesitation, he smashed the door to his room open, his primal instincts taking over.

A man stood outside, unaware of what was happening. Arthur didn't hesitate. He lunged, sinking his teeth into the man's neck, drinking deeply from his blood. The man was dead within moments, Arthur standing over him, breathing heavily, a twisted satisfaction filled someone's heart as he watched the scene.

From a small hole in the door, Alice watched everything unfold, her heart shattering at the sight. She clutched her chest, silently crying as she realised the boy she had tried so hard to protect was gone, replaced by a creature of darkness. she saw marcus entering the hall, she smashed opened the door.

"hah, you have noticed it, didnt you alice." Marcus said, looking at alice.

Then, suddenly, Arthur snapped out. looking at his bloody hands and a bitter taste in his mouth he said, "mom, i have i done wrong?".

"See Alice, even your child couldn't resist the taste of monstrosity," said Marcus in an eerie tone. while that, arthur, unconscious, fell to the ground.

"What have you done to my son, you monster?" alice shouted. "I've done nothing, Alice, it was nothing but the monstrocity running through his veins," Marcus replied.

"no, you are wrong, my son is not that kind of person, he is sweet and soft, he couldn't handle even the little accidents seen on TV," said alice.

"Oh well!It must be that he is destined to be my successor," said marcus.

Listening to this and seeing her son unconscious on the ground, something awakened inside alice. "You are unlocking your powers now, aren't you? I suppose it's a strong one," said marcus.

Alice had a vision, or something similar, she saw an image , where a lady was creating all sorts of objects. Below the image, there was a banner that spelt, "the creator's power is nothing compared to anything". Alice then realised that she can create whatever she can.

Then, she thought of a solution to escape the place, an image came of a glass sword, and in an instant, the sword came in her hands.

"there is no escape for you" alice shouted. "so, you are proposing a battle, ha!,"Marcus replied and took out his glass sword. They started to fight head on. A little later, Alice found that Marcus was allergic to glass, and purposely avoided it.

She had an idea and created a lot of glass objects. she threw them at him, he got distracted, she took the chance and sliced him up, at least a thousand times. She took Arthur and exited the building.....
