Michael leans forward slightly. "Who?"
Margaret purses her lips. "There's a man. An investor. I've had my suspicions about him for some time now, but nothing concrete. He's always been ambitious, too ambitious for his own good. His name is Richard Harrington."
I frown my face. I have heard the name before. Harrington was one of the largest investors in the Hartley Corporation, someone Michael has worked with closely over the years. He is powerful, wealthy, and seemingly loyal.
"But Harrington's been with the company for years," Michael says, shaking his head. "He's always backed every project, every expansion."
"Exactly," Margaret replies, her voice cold and sharp. "Too eager. Too involved. He's been playing the long game, Michael. Don't be fooled by his loyalty. I've seen men like him before."
Michael sits back, digesting the information. Richard Harrington… It doesn't make sense. But then again, nothing about this situation makes sense anymore.
