I ran home as quickly as I could, not stopping for anything, almost getting hit by a few cars in my haste. Coraline's words kept echoing through my head. Maybe Ethan is worried about me, and indeed he never did anything without a clear and firm reason. That's part of what I liked so much about him.
He only started acting like this after Matt's visit to his house, and I didn't know what they talked about, but Matt had used coercive tactics to get his way before. Maybe, just maybe, there's evidence of it that can easily be found in his room. After all, he isn't that smart when it comes to getting rid of things.
When I got home, I rushed into the living room where my mom was working out. "Mom! Is Matt here?" I asked, breathless.
She looked surprised. "Matt will be back late tonight, honey. He's doing things for student council."
Perfect. "Thanks, Mom." I rushed over, kissed her cheek, and sprinted upstairs to Matt's room.
