"Coming to school is such a pain in the ass," Coraline groaned.
"You'll be fine," I said, trying to sound more upbeat than I felt. "Aren't you going to college? You'll have to do this there as well."
"It'll be less strict."
"I guess you have that money to waste then."
"I know you're bummed, but at least try to cheer up a little bit, you bitch. You know your mom is stuck all the way up Matt's ass," Coraline said bluntly.
She was right, of course, but it had already ruined my morning. My mom's words and the overall tension at home still hung over me like a dark cloud. I sighed, trying to shake it off.
"Yeah, I know," I muttered into my desk. "It just sucks. I can't just unhear it though."
Coraline nodded, her expression softening a bit. "Hey, at least you've got Ethan locked down now. That's something, right?"
A small smile tugged at my lips despite everything. It was a small consolation. "Yeah, it is."
