(Y/n)'s POV
It looked like I was right, in the weeks that followed, Quirrel put up quite a fight, but looked weaker every time we saw him, which was worrisome, but there wasn't much we could do aside from cheering him on from the sidelines.
We were in class one day, and Professor Dumbledore called me to his office, I don't know why, the stuff with the troll happened ages ago, and we didn't really do anything bad that warranted me going there, but I followed the order regardless, I was following Professor McGonagall, she said "Sherbert lemon" to a statue, and told me to go on.
Professor Dumbledore's office was really big, with bunch of books, bunch of pictures of people I didn't know, and a few weird cauldrons, one in specific called my attention, it looked like a cauldron but at the same time a well, in which there was a bunch of water, though, I didn't think it was normal water, nothing's normal in this world
Before I even got close to it, I heard a sound that interested me, like a bird squeaking, I looked around and saw it came from a red bird, whose feathers looked like flames, with golden ones on its tail, and eyes as black as coal.
I approached it slowly, thinking it would fly away, but it didn't, in fact, it flew and perched on my shoulder, Blaze got out of my hand-made pocket, maybe she thought it was going to do something to me, but the red bird just squeaked at her, and Blaze just tilted her head, and remained there.
"H-Hi, um, what's your name?" I asked, mentally face palming, obviously the bird wasn't going to answer me, it's not like I could at least understand its meaning like I could a bit with Blaze.
The bird simply looked at me, tilted its head, and then stayed there for what felt like forever because my arm was going sore, though I did take the chance to pet the strange bird, until someone whistled, I mentally thanked who did it, and the bird flew and landed where it was before.
"It seems Fawkes has grown quite fond of you, odd, he usually takes a bit longer to trust strangers" Said a voice I recognized as Professor Dumbledore.
"U-Uh, I don't know Professor, usually I have an easier time with animals than people" I said, "B-but, I wanted to ask, why did you ask for me? I-I'm not in trouble, am I?" I was nervous, it wasn't everyday the principal of the school called you in his office.
He laughed dreamily, caressing his long white beard, and said, with his characteristic twinkle in his blue eyes.
"Trouble? You are certainly not in trouble, (Y/n) I simply wanted to chat with you, do take a seat, please."
I did so without hesitation, there was something in his gaze, I don't know how to explain it, it was kind, but also intense, as if he was trying to look into my mind.
"I wanted to congratulate you for the bravery and skill you showed against the troll, performing that spell at such an early stage of your magical education, tell me, (Y/n), how did you learn that spell?" He asked, his serene vibe filling the room.
"T-Thank you, Professor, my dad, h-he, um, he taught me – I mean – he showed me some spells, he said he wanted to show off with some, but also wanted me to watch them" I said, my cheeks going a bit red at the sudden compliment.
"Diffindo was one of the spells he showed me, I wanted to help Hermione, but... the spell came out badly, it didn't even scrape him... I was just lucky to even be able to cast it" I said, feeling down.
"Ah, friendship, It's always been good motivation." He said, pausing a bit, and then continuing.
"Modesty is a virtue, (Y/n), while it is correct that the spell wasn't at it's full power, it is still a feat which shows your magical ability, do not underestimate it, Hogwarts is a place of learning and growth of magic, and it would be disrespectful to not acknowledge it. Therefore, I've talked with Professor Flitwick, who, if you must know, thinks the same as me."
"U-Uh, which is?"
"Professor Flitwick and I have arranged that you will receive advanced Charms lessons, he believes, as do I, that with proper guidance you have the potential to achieve great things."
I looked at him, with what must be the most shocked face I've ever done in my life, still not fully processing what he just said to me, and I think it shows, as his laugh took me out of my mind.
"P-P-Professor, I don't think... I don't think I deserve those classes, sure, I may have lucked out with that spell, but that's it, Hermione deserves it more than me." I said, not grasping the information that was delivered to me, and to be honest, who wouldn't? I was always behind Hermione, there was no way I should get this and not her.
He laughed once more, and said.
"(Y/n), I do know that Miss Granger has potential to achieve great things on her own, and I also see that you have a natural talent for Charms and Jinxes. The difference is, Miss Granger will achieve great things on her own, and you will need proper guidance, and while I cannot arrange extra classes of Defense against the Dark Arts, I can arrange Charms, thanks in part to Professor Flitwick, who looks even more excited to start them."
"I... I don't know what to-" I said, nervous, but at the same time excited, did I really deserve those classes? If I said no, would I regret this for the rest of my life? Would Hermione get mad at me? A thousand questions invaded my mind, but as I looked at Professor Dumbledore's eyes, I felt calm, relaxed, and the answer came to me in my now cleared head.
"Thank you Professor, I... I won't disappoint you, or Professor Flitwick, I'll do the best I can."
"That is all we ask, dear child." He said, with that serene smile of his. "Now, off you go, I believe I interrupted a class of yours, Professor Flitwick will be expecting you tomorrow after your usual classes."
I got up to leave, but before I left the office, I said.
"T-thank you, for believing in me" I nodded to Professor Dumbledore, with a wave of excitement and nervousness floating through me, making me tremble a little bit, and left the office.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So... yeah, are you... mad at me?" I asked Hermione, I feared she would be mad, not because she was jealous, but because the feeling of her deserving them too still lingered in my mind, I didn't want to make her feel bad, or not acknowledged.
She looked in awe for a few seconds, and then smiled, but there was something off, her expression shifted for a bit, and bit her lip.
"Actually, I'm happy for you, I'm just wondering why Professor Dumbledore didn't request me for that too, I work harder than everyone else, except you, I don't want you thinking I'll be angry at you because you earn what you deserve." Said Hermione, in a serious tone, the one she usually has when she's thinking of something, thankfully she wasn't angry or annoyed, at least not at me, but anxiety grabbed hold of me regardless, because I knew what she meant.
"I-If you want, I can go back and talk to him again, so that he includes you too in the class-" I was trying to suggest a few ideas, but she said.
"No, I will talk to him, I want to hear the reasons why he wouldn't choose me too." I always knew Hermione was a straightforward kind of person, I just didn't know the lengths to where she would go for these things, although, it did inspire me to see how she handles things, compared to me, who always just... goes with the flow.
"Alright, do you mind if I tag along? Besides, I think you need a password to enter" I asked.
"Yeah, it's fine" She said, with a smile, again, the reassurance that she wasn't mad filled me with relief.
Hermione and I silently walk through the halls, until we get to the statue, I approach it, and try to remember what Professor McGonagall said.
"Um... it was something with lemons... Oh yeah! Sherbert lemon" The moment those words came out of my mouth, the statue began to shift and move, revealing a staircase. I looked at Hermione, she entered, and I followed her.
This time, Professor Dumbledore was visible right away, and it seemed as if he expected us to come back. I looked at him, and before I could even say a word, Hermione started to talk.
"Professor Dumbledore, I heard about (Y/n)'s advanced classes, and I wanted to ask, why haven't you talked to me either? In no means am I trying to sound arrogant, but... I've worked twice as hard compared to other first year students, so I wanted to know why."
"Ah, Miss Granger, I knew you'd come, I should have expected that what I said to (Y/n) would leave you with doubts, first, your hard work and effort have not gone unnoticed. The decision to give (Y/n) advanced classes is based on his unique and natural abilities for Charms, as shown with the troll incident. However, this does not diminish your potential in any way, in fact, I know you will reach far greater achievements on your own."
Hermione was watching Dumbledore with a very serious face, listening to every word that came out of the headmaster's mouth.
"I understand Professor, but as you said, I have potential, and if there's any advanced classes, I would love and be delighted to be part of them, any kind of additional knowledge is always welcomed, that's what Hogwarts is for, to polish our magical knowledge, isn't it?"
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled, as always, I suppose he must've expected Hermione not to back down easily, she is a really stubborn person. I would know, I'm her best friend, he smiled gently, stroked his beard a bit, and said.
"Miss Granger, I know what you mean, however, you overexert yourself, and partly, my decision to not have you join his classes was because I fear you will hurt yourself, work too hard, and crumble by all the pressure.
I do not want to see you like that, not someone with so much potential. You have nothing to show to anyone, you have already shown everyone what you are capable of, you don't have to be perfect."
This obviously made Hermione uncomfortable, from what she has told me, her whole life was about being perfect, and being the best at studying anything. I didn't need to see what face she was making to understand what she felt.
"But, Professor, I-" She started to say, but Professor Dumbledore raised his hand.
"I am sorry, Miss Granger, but my opinion still stands, too much will not do you any good."
Before he could signal us to leave his office, I raised my voice. I didn't like these kinds of situations, as they tend to make me really nervous, but I felt like I needed to say something for my friend.
"P-Professor, I know what you said it's true, Hermione overworks herself, sometimes until late at night, b-but I think that goes to show how much she deserves this opportunity, to be able to learn even more, she's like a knowledge vacuum, if there's anyone that can do it, it's her, a-and besides, it would help me a lot to me and my nerves to have her with me. W-we can learn from each other, so please, Professor Dumbledore, let her take the advanced classes with me."
They both looked at me, Hermione's hopeless face lit up a bit, and Professor Dumbledore's stern but kind gaze softened. We were in deep silence for a few minutes, until Professor Dumbledore let out a big sigh, and finally spoke up.
"Very well... I shall see it so that Professor Flitwick teaches the both of you" We started to cheer, "But with one condition"
We looked at the headmaster once more, and I gulped.
"You , (Y/n), have to make sure she doesn't overexert herself. Look after her, help her unwind a bit with your friends, and also, make sure to not spend the day in the library, you are children, you have to act like it sometimes" He said, with a hearty laugh, I just looked at him, smiled, and said.
"I-I promise, Professor." Then he looked at Hermione, who said.
"Yes, Professor, I will, thank you so much for this opportunity, and I will make sure I learn as much as I can." With a smile on his face, he said.
"That is exactly the attitude that will take you far, Miss Granger, now, take care, and (Y/n)?" I turned my attention to him, before we left the room. "Please do not tell anyone about the password to my office, it will be our little secret" I nodded excitedly at him, and we left.
We were in silence until we got out of his office, and I expressed what I was thinking.
"I... I can't believe it, it worked! Hermion-'' I turned around, and was surprised when she hugged me. It wasn't the first time she did so, as she hugged me for my birthday, but still, I could see she was very happy, and because all the tension left the room, I was more relaxed.
"Thank you (Y/n)" She said, with her usual smile back.
"No, don't worry, you have nothing to thank me for, it was your idea to go and talk to him, I was a nervous wreck the whole time, I could barely talk, this straightforward kind of way of approaching things seems to work, although I don't think I'll get used to it...." I said, laughing a bit, and feeling tired, now that all the nervousness and anxiety left my body.
"Well, are you ready for tomorrow's new classes?" I said, and her eyes looked like they were twinkling with excitement, and she said
"Of course! More than ready, actually, I'll have to read even more now!" I looked at her, and as if it slipped her mind, it came back to her, "Don't worry, I remember what Professor Dumbledore said, I won't saturate myself with work, at least not for now."
"Oh, I know Hermione, besides, now I have Professor Dumbledore's permission to not let you overwork yourself, I have your back, we're a team, no?" I asked, pushing her shoulder with mine, she just looked at me, smiled, and nodded.
"And don't thank me, consider it a payback for teaching me Herbology." I said, without thinking about it.
"Oh! Speaking about that! We should study more about it, I saw you were faltering last class, it seems we need extra lessons too on that" When she said that, I regretted reminding her of Herbology, as she dragged me away to the library to study even more, almost dozing off at times, but relieved that everything worked out in the end.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermione started to study even more now that the exams were coming, but I stayed true to what I promised to Professor Dumbledore, and made sure she had some time to relax and not to think about studying all of the time.
The Charms extra lessons were coming in handy, because I got to practice some spells I wasn't sure I could do outside of a classroom, and Professor Flitwick was a great teacher, he also told us stories of how he used to be a Duellist Champion.
Though, all of that extra study didn't really stop Hermione from doing it.
"Hermione, the exams are ages away" Said Harry.
"Ten weeks, that's not ages, it's like a second for Nicholas Flamel" Said Hermione
"But we're not six hundred years old," Said Ron in response.
"They're right, Hermione, I know you care about the exams, but you've already studied more than anyone in this school, you'll do great, I promise, besides, remember what Professor Dumbledore told us." I said, Hermione looked at me, sighed, and said.
"I should have started studying a month ago, I promise I'll take it easy, but I can't just not study, these exams are very important, if we don't pass them we won't get to second year"
"Hermione, it'll be alright, we've studied a lot, haven't we? I'll trust your word for now but I'll keep an eye on you." I answered her.
Although I said that, I couldn't really maintain it thanks to the Professors, we were piled up with so much to do that everyone was full of things, I managed to take it easy, and helped Hermione in any way I could to make it easier for her.
We all were in the library, Harry and Ron decided to join us on a Herbology lesson we were having.
"I'll never remember this," Said Ron.
"Mate, I never will either, but I have to, Hermione helps a lot with it." I said, in understanding, as I didn't like Herbology either.
Ron looked around, and we saw a familiar giant friend around the library, and Ron said.
"Hagrid! What are you doing in the library?" He asked.
I looked at him, and he hid something behind his back. I tilted my head at it, but didn't ask anything. Even if I wanted, he asked us something.
"Jus' lookin, an' what're you lot up ter?' He looked suddenly suspicious. "Yer not still lookin' fer Nicolas Flamel, are yeh?" I looked at Ron, who seemed to want to say something, and just like I did to Harry, I thought He's not going to tell him is he?
"Oh, we found out who he is ages ago, and we know what the dog is guarding, it's the Philosopher's St-" I went up to cover Ron's mouth.
"Shhh! Don' go shoutin' about it, what's the matter with yeh?"
"Y-Yeah Ron, it's something very important! You shouldn't go around saying it to anyone!" I said.
Harry ignored me, and asked Hagrid something.
There are a few things we wanted to ask you, as a matter of fact, about what's guarding the Stone apart from Fluffy –" I jumped from covering Ron's mouth to Harry's mouth, with a frustrated look on my face.
"SHHHHH! Listen, come an' see me later, I'm not promisin' I'll tell yeh anythin', mind, but don' go rabbitin' about it in here, students aren' s'posed ter know. They'll think I've told yeh –" Said Hagrid, although I focused more on the word he used, rabbitin, and imagined us as rabbits, until Harry talked.
"See you later, then" Harry didn't look like it, but he was smart, sorry, that was rude, but you get what I mean.
"C-Come on guys! We can't just go around talking about it." I said.
"I know, (Y/n), don't nag about it" Said Ron.
"(Y/n)'s right, we have to be careful about it." Said Hermione, "Although, I wonder what was he hiding behind his back"
"I'm going to see what section he was in" Said Ron, though, I think he mostly wanted an excuse to stand up and not study anymore.
He came back a few minutes later, with a bunch of books, and whispered.
"Dragons! He was looking stuff about dragons! Look at these: Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland; From Egg to Inferno, A Dragon Keeper's Guide."
"Oh man, I'll have to take them to the common room, I've been caught up in so much that I didn't even remember dragons were a thing!" I said, and took out Blaze for her to see the pictures on the books about her long distant cousins, she seemed to like the pictures, but I had to be careful or she might burn the books.
"Hagrid's always wanted a dragon, he told me the first time I ever met him." Said Harry.
"Me too mate, dragons are just too cool aren't they?! Oh, but not as cool as you, Blaze." I said, as I saw that Blaze looked at me with a tinge of sadness, to make her feel better.
"But it's against our laws, dragon-breeding was outlawed by the Warlocks' Convention of 1709, everyone knows about that." Said Ron.
"W-WHAT?!" I said, or almost screamed, I had to say sorry to Madam Pince, and continued whispering. "W-What do you mean by that? You can't have a dragon pet? Even if it's a little one?!" I asked Ron, with my eyes wide open, and shaking his shoulders.
"Yeah mate, it's hard to keep them out of Muggle's eyes, and they're dangerous. You should see Charlie's burns he got from wild ones in Rumania."
"But... but...." I said, with my head hanging low now, Hermione put her hand on my shoulder and tried to rationalize it, as she usually did.
"Think about it, (Y/n), if you did have a dragon, you would have too much work to do, you see-" She started to name every reason as to why it would be bad to have a dragon, I know she tried to make me feel better, and it did in a way, but it also made me even sadder, until Blaze looked at me, and spew some fire at me, not harmful obviously, but it did make me get out of that state.
"Yeah, you guys are right, besides, Blaze's even cooler than a dragon, thanks Hermione."
Harry continued with the conversation.
"But are there aren't dragons in Britain?"
"Of course there are, Common Welsh Green and-" Ron was explaining but I interrupted him without any ill meaning.
"Hebridean Blacks! My grandma told me the ministry has it hard when dealing with them, because Muggles always see them!" Ron looked at me a bit annoyed, and said.
"And how does your grandma know about that?" That's when I realized I haven't told them about my grandma.
"Oh, right, my grandma is a Dragonologist, I forgot I haven't told you guys that, her name's Elizabeth (L/n)" I said, with a smile on my face, though, Ron's eyes went wide.
"What?! (Y/n), look at this book" He handed me the book From Egg to Inferno, A Dragon Keeper's Guide, and I said.
"What do you want me to look for?" Ron pointed at the names behind the first page of the book, and I was surprised to see my grandma's name as one of the Authors, at least for this edition of the book.
"S-She never told me any of this" I was amazed, was my grandma that good of a Dragonologist that she was asked to do books?
"Bloody hell, (Y/n), you should've told us you had a famous grandma, what do your parents do, anyways?" Ron asked, they all looked at me expectantly, and I got nervous, I looked down and said.
"W-Well, dad's an Auror, and mom's a potion maker and herbologist.... she says those two things go hand by hand."
"Oh, nice, but wait, then how come you suck at Herbology?" Ron asked.
"It 's honestly.... I wouldn't say it to mom but herbology seems kind of boring, when they gave me those express lessons it was the one I dozed off the most, if it wasn't for Hermione teaching me I would probably not pass as much as I do." I said, Hermione probably sensed I got a bit nervous, and tried to go back to the original subject.
"Aside from asking about (Y/n)'s family, I wonder what on earth Hagrid is up to..." She pondered, and made that face she makes when she wants to find an answer to something.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we got to Hagrid's hut, he seemed all secretive, with his curtains closed, and asking us who we were through the door, after that he let us in and closed the door quickly, I think I wasn't the only one to think he was being weird, but didn't ask about it.
The whole room felt warm, really warm, so much so that as soon as Hagrid closed the door, Blaze came out of my hand-made pocket and started to run around Hagrid's hut, again, Hagrid didn't seem to mind, and if it kept her entertained, it didn't bother me, I just watched her play around the hut, and eating from the fireplace.
"So, yeh wanted to ask me somethin'?" Asked Hagrid, I looked at them and said.
"I mean, there's no use being subtle about it right? He already knows we know" They all nodded, and Harry said.
"We were wondering if you could tell us what's guarding the Philosopher's Stone apart from Fluffy" Hagrid frowned, and said.
"O' course I can't, I don't know meself, and yeh know too much already, so I wouldn't tell yeh if I could, the stone's here fer a good reason, it was almost stolen outta Gringotts – I s'pose yeh've worked that out an' all? Beats me how yeh even know abou' Fluffy"
"W-We're, um.... very good detectives" I said, he seemed to believe it at first but then I couldn't read his expression.
"Oh, come on, Hagrid, you might not want to tell us, but you do know, you know everything that goes on round here. We only wondered who had done the guarding, really. We wondered who Dumbledore had trusted enough to help him, apart from you." Said Hermione, flattery obviously worked with Hagrid, as I saw him smile, but I was suddenly a bit afraid of Hermione's persuasive powers, either she was good, or Hagrid was easy to break.
"Well, I don' s'pose it could hurt ter tell yeh that ... let's see ... he borrowed Fluffy from me ... then some o' the teachers did enchantments ... Professor Sprout – Professor Flitwick – Professor McGonagall – Professor Quirrell – an' Dumbledore himself did somethin', o' course. Hang on, I've forgotten someone. Oh yeah, Professor Snape, "said Hagrid.
That got me thinking, if Snape really was the bad guy, wouldn't he know how to pass the other Professor's traps? At least Fluffy was making him some troubles, and Quirrel hanging on was also stalling him a bit.
I felt anxious, and a question appeared in my mind, and apparently, it appeared on Harry's mind too.
"Hagrid, you're the only one who knows how to get past Fluffy, aren't you?"
"Not a soul knows except me an' Dumbledore" Said Hagrid, and with that I released a breath I didn't know I was holding.
Harry muttered something to us, but I was more focused on watching Blaze eating some fire, and then I saw it, a big black egg, scaly, and surrounded by fire, I screamed.
"Hagrid! Is that what I think it is?!!?!" I said excitedly, and ran towards the egg.
The others looked at me, and Ron followed me.
"Ah, that 's, er...." He seemed nervous, and I mean, I can't blame him, I would be nervous too, but excited as well!
"Where did you get it, Hagrid? It must've cost you a fortune." Said Ron
"Won it las' night. I was downin the village havin' a few drinks an' got into a game o' cards with a stranger. Think he was quite glad ter get rid of it, ter be honest.
"But what are you going to do when it's hatched?" Asked Hermione, as always, thinking of the future, I couldn't care less honestly, I was just admiring the egg, trying to identify it.
"Well, I've bin doin' some readin', got this outta the library – DragonBreeding for Pleasure and Profit – it's a bit outta date, o' course, but it's all in here. Keep the egg in the fire, 'cause their mothers breathe on 'em, see, an' when it hatches, feed it on a bucket o' brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour. An' see here – how ter recognise diff'rent eggs – what I got ther-' ' I couldn't stop myself.
"A Norwegian Ridgeback! They're like Hungarian Horntail but with few differences like their scales! They also have a pretty nasty venom!" I said, practically screaming, and dancing on the spot. "Grandma told me about them!"
They all looked at me with puzzled expressions, I guess it shocked them to see me talking so much without stuttering or being really loud, well, all of them except Hagrid, who looked really happy and was nodding alongside everything I said.
"Hagrid, you live in a wooden house" Remarked Hermione, I was going to say something, but thought better of it, don't want to get carried away by excitement.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were now in the Great Hall, and I was playing with Blaze a bit, practicing the blue flame spell to give her some food, it wasn't fair that I ate and she didn't, when Hedwig, Harry's owl, left him a note from Hagrid, which simply said It's hatching.
When I read that I stood up and wanted to run towards Hagrid's hut, but Hermione stopped me, and glared at me like I committed a crime.
"We've got lessons, (Y/n), may I remind you that you're not doing very well in Herbology? We're going there after the classes end" She said, in her bossy tone of hers, usually I wouldn't really disagree with her, so I simply blurted a few.
"But... but...."
"But nothing, (Y/n), we'll get in trouble, and that's nothing to what Hagrid's going to be in when someone finds out what he's doing-" Harry interrupted her.
"Shut up" He whispered, now, that was rude, until I saw what Harry was looking at, and it was Malfoy, who was a few feets away, with his big ears, and had a weird look on his face.
I tried to negotiate with Hermione, and we agreed that we'd go in the morning break, only if I pay more attention to the lessons she gives me on Herbology, it was hard, but it was worth it, I had to see that dragon.
When it was finally time, I ran to Hagrid's hut, the others following close behind, and knocked on his door, Hagrid told us to get in and said.
"It's nearly out" I smiled, and went to see it, of course, taking Blaze out too for her to see the baby dragon, and as if the baby was waiting for us to arrive, it broke the egg, a skinny lizard, with spiky big wings, I thought it looked amazing, and Blaze thought so too apparently, as she went a bit closer to the Norwegian Ridgeback.
"Isn't he beautiful?" Said Hagrid, as he petted the dragon's head, the dragon tried to bite him out of instinct, and he said.
"Bless him, look, he recognizes his mummy!"
Blaze and the dragon looked at each other for a few seconds, tilting both their heads, I don't know what came to Blaze, but she spew some fire upwards, maybe to show off, who knows, and then I remembered.
"Oh yeah! Grandma told me Norwegian Ridgeback develop early their ability to throw fir-" As I said that, the dragon snorted and threw some flames into Hagrid's beard, when Blaze saw this, she jumped to Hagrid's beard and started to eat away the fire.
"Hagrid... how fast do Norwegians Ridgebacks grow, exactly?" Asked Hermione.
"Oh, that's an easy one, they can-" I started to say, until I saw Hagrid's face lose all of it's color, and he ran towards the window "Are you alright Hagrid?"
"Someone was lookin' through the gap in the curtains, it's a kid, he's runnin' back up ter the school" Said Hagrid.
Harry opened the door and quickly tried to see who it was, he came back, and said.
"Malfoy, Malfoy saw the dragon." And we were all frozen in place.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole next week we were really nervous, and it didn't help that Malfoy had that sickening grin on his face the whole time. We went down to Hagrid's to convince him to let him go, although I was kind of reluctant, the dragon was growing really fast.
"Just let him go, set him free." Said Harry, he was really stressed out.
"I can't, he's too little, he'd die"
"Hagrid, sorry, but from a fellow dragon fan to another, he's going to be alright, look at his size!" I said.
The Norwegian Ridgeback was growing fast, as they usually do, it wouldn't be long enough until he was the size of Hagrid's hut.
"I've decided to call him Norbert, he really knows me now, watch, Norbert! Where's mummy?" Hagrid said, he looked... a bit mad, to be honest, even someone who loves dragon like me can realize that much.
"Hagrid, I know you've always wanted a dragon, but what will you do when it grows to the size of your house? I don't want you to do it, but I think it'd be better if we just let Norbert go and live on his own." I said, a bit sad that my first experience with a domestic dragon went the way it was going.
Harry suddenly turned to Ron and I
"Charlie"
"You're losing it too, I'm Ron, remember?" I laughed a bit at it, but then realized.
"No, Charlie, your brother Charlie. In Romania, studying dragons. We could send Norbert to him. Charlie can take care of him and then put him back in the wild! And your grandma (Y/n), she might help too!" Said Harry, and the idea wasn't so bad, if it wasn't for one small problem.
"I- Uh, I don't know how to contact my grandma" The looked at me in shock, and I got nervous again, and continued, "I-It's just, um, she was always the one who came to my house, I don't know where she lives or where she is right now, sorry... but your brother might work! Right, Ron?" I said, Ron snapped out of the shock, and said
"Yeah, it's brilliant! How about it, Hagrid?" Hagrid looked uncomfortable, so I said.
"Hagrid, think about it this way, Norbert can make new friends like him in there, he'll be lonely here and never make a family."
Hagrid looked conflicted, but then gave in on the plan, after a lot of weeping.

The next week Ron and I helped Hagrid, until on Wednesday night Ron got bit by Norbert, we reached the common room, and took off the invisibility cloak Harry was borrowing us, and Ron said.
"It bit me! I'm not going to be able to hold a quill for a week. I tell you, that dragon's the most horrible animal I've ever met, but the way Hagrid goes on about it, you'd think it was a fluffy little bunny rabbit. When it bit me he told me off for frightening it. And when I left, he was singing it a lullaby!"
"He is starting to seem a little mad to me too, but Ron, you have to go to the Hospital Wing and get that sorted out, Norwegian Ridgebacks have venom in their fangs!" I said, worried about my friend.
"And what do I say to Madam Pomfrey? That a bloody venomous dog bit me!?" He said, gesturing to his hand wrapped in a bloody handkerchief.
"I-I mean, I don't... I can try and treat it but I don't think it'll get much better mate." I answered.
Suddenly we heard some knocks on the window, which came from Hedwig, who had a letter from Ron's brother, Charlie.
Dear Ron,
How are you? Thanks for the letter – I'd be glad to take the Norwegian Ridgeback, but it won't be easy getting him here.
I think the best thing will be to send him over with some friends of mine who are coming to visit me next week.
Trouble is, they mustn't be seen carrying an illegal dragon.
Could you get the Ridgeback up the tallest tower at midnight on Saturday?
They can meet you there and take him away while it's still dark. Send me an answer as soon as possible.
Love, Charlie
"We've got the invisibility cloak, it shouldn't be too difficult, I think the Cloak's big enough for two of us and Norbert"
"Uh, okay, and who's going?" I asked back
We all just looked at each other, and decided it was something for the us of tomorrow to think about. Besides, I could ask Professor Flitwick a charm, of course, it would go untested, but it was better than nothing, and if it worked it would help us a lot on this quest we had.
