Chapter 4 - To Diagon Alley!

(Y/n's POV)

I thought I wouldn't have another dream, but here I was again, I couldn't move, I couldn't hear or see, it was scary, until suddenly, a dimly green light appeared for what felt like a second, and a scream of a man made me feel sick, followed by a woman's scream, and what seemed like a lightning bolt, but scarier...

*CRACK*

There wasn't any screaming, but I started to feel something, I don't know what, but I felt something in my body, like when someone hugs you, but harder and everywhere, I saw only darkness again, and then, light.

When I opened my eyes my mom wasn't waking me up, it was weird, because she always helped me wake up, she knew how to, because my dad tried once and got a bit shocked when he saw how grumpy I get waking up, since then my mom was the one in charge of me.

I spent a few minutes in bed, trying to remember my dream, it always happened, I couldn't remember any dream I had, usually I had no trouble just brushing it off, after all it's only a dream, but there was something off about the last few dreams I had, and this one made me feel... sad? I don't really know, but it felt important.

I stood up, and went to the living room, my parents were there, sitting in the couch, but the room was in a weird mood, I couldn't put it into words, but it felt like they were gloomy, it was kind of weird to see them like this, they wouldn't fight often and if they did they would solve it the way grownups solve things I guess, never really thought about it, but the things that happened a few days ago made me start to think different about stuff.

My mom saw me, and her whole face changed, so did my dad's when he noticed me

"Hi sweetie, I'm sorry for not waking you up today, I know it might feel weird, but things have been a bit... messy, since you found out about the magic world" She said, while looking at my dad, and even I could tell they felt a bit awkward talking about it

"BUT! Today is a new day! We'll go to Diagon Alley, we'll buy all of your school stuff and your wand, so I hope you're as excited as we are, because we'll also talk about us, this time without any hiding" When she said that, I felt weird, not because I didn't want to go, but because it felt like they were hiding something again, not something about me, but something about the way they felt about me going to the magic world.

Mom looked tired lately, maybe she's been too worried about me, I don't know why, the whole magic thing seems so exciting and cool that I don't know why they would hide it for so long, I mean, what kid wouldn't want magic right?!?!?

Anyways, since my birthday we talked as a family, because according to my parents, we had to know how to approach the subject, I guess they did, because they looked kind of fidgety, like that time I broke one of my mom's vase for one of her plants with one of my kicks once, I felt so nervous that my hands wouldn't stop shaking. I thought they would be mad, and I think they were, but they knew I didn't do it on purpose so they only left me without any videogames, I had to read books all the time, which I liked, so It didn't really feel like a punishment.

- "So, little man, what are you most excited to get in Diagon alley?" Said my dad, pulling me out of my thoughts while he smiled, he also looked tired, but not the same as my mom, it looked like he had worked a lot in this few days because he spent most of his time in his office, he had baggy eyes.

"Aside from my own wand, I'm really excited to learn flashy magic, like fireballs! And also finding books for any kind of spells, OH! And also books for magical creatures, like dragons!" I said while I jumped around the room, my mom always said that I couldn't stand around in the same place for too much time, I start to move my leg up and down while I'm sitting for too long, I don't know why thought, most of the time I don't even notice it.

"Well, it seems like you have almost all the day figured out don't you?" Said my dad while laughing a bit. "I don't want to make you wait any longer, I think if I did you would explode, go on, get in the car, we'll be right with you."

I smiled widely, and ran to the car, while I was going to the front door my mom yelled "Don't forget your jacket!"

"Yes mom!"

After a few minutes which felt like ages, my parents appeared with their stuff, when they got in the car my mom looked at me and told me to put my seatbelt on, and then we finally started the ride.

In the car ride my parents started to talk about each other's job, I couldn't really understand because they said some weird names, but from what I could gather my mom treated with plants and potion making, which made sense, because some times when I got sick, she would bring some weird spoonful of something and make me drink it, and each time it tasted really bad, but they worked, and it made sense why she taught me about some plants, I guess I didn't really noticed they were magical, because I didn't get to see that many plants, but I felt like an idiot for not figuring it out before.

My dad was some sort of cop, an Auror he said, and apparently a good one, from what I could understand, Aurors deal with wizards who go insane, or "rogue" as he said, which sounds cool, it makes him sound like a super hero.

When they finished telling me about their jobs, they started to talk about their past; my dad was born here, in England, but lived in a country in South America since he was young and apparently her mom was born in that country, he didn't go into much detail there, but it made sense because he taught me a few Spanish words.

He attended the magical school of that country, up till the year of 1973, when they moved to England because of some things happening in the country he was in, he got into Hogwarts as a third year, where he met my mom and his group of friends.

I couldn't really catch all the names, but the ones he made the most emphasis were James Potter and Severus Snape, which he clarified they were like oil and water, whatever that means.

Mom was in Hogwarts since first year, she was born in England and apparently grandma works as a Dragonologist, that basically meant she was trained to deal with dragons, and honestly, that job was also super cool.

Anyways, mom's group of friends was smaller than dad's, she was friends with Lily Evans and Alice Fortes- Fortesq- I can't remember the name, but it was complicated and something like that, she was two years older than mom and Lily.

They told me something that was very funny for them, around their fifth year, Lily and James started as a couple, and my dad who was already trying his hardest to flirt with mom, picked up all his courage and made a spell in the middle of the Quidditch field to confess to her, my mom accepted after all the effort he put into it, but I don't know why they found that funny, I found the name Quidditch funnier, as when my dad said that name I laughed a bit.

They had bad luck, because when they finished their studies, they went to fight in the war, which started, according to my dad, because of the evillest wizard and his wicked ideals, around those times he was the most feared wizard and because of that people were scared to even say his name, his followers were as bad as he was, and their way of thinking caused death everywhere, many of my parents friends aren't in this world anymore, like James and Lily.

I felt sad, because they were unlucky, they were forced to be in a war they didn't ask to be, and had to see people leave their side, and still they didn't give up hope, which made me feel a bit proud, even in what seemed like the darkest of times they still had hope, and I felt worse, because when they told me this, their faces were sad, like if they still grieved for them, they went through so much and still tried to show me only the best, even if they lied about it.

After all that emotion, I finally heard my grandma on my dad's side, though, I didn't expect it to be in this way.

"Your grandmother, Margaret, was one of his most devoted followers, in those times a big part of my family thought of muggle-borns to be the worst of the worst, they called them mudbloods, a word only used by extremists, but my uncle, your grand uncle, once was casted out of the family house, because he had a fight with my grandfather, he didn't know where else to go, but a muggle family took him in.

They saw him in the streets and brought him to his house, and treated him as a part of their family for almost a year, when he came back to his home, they took him in because he was family and they wanted to keep the appearances, but he was different, his experience changed him, so when he took care of me, which was a lot by the way, he taught me that, love and trust is more important than blood, that your family or where you were born doesn't make you better than anyone, and it was burned in my head, that I had to treat everyone equal, with or without magic"

When my dad said all of this, I could see his eyes through the mirror, they were glistering.

My mom continued seeing that my dad was in his mind thinking about his uncle

"Your grandma didn't agree with nothing his brother said, but with time, she started to understand, mainly because his son started to date a half-blood, given that my mom is a muggle-born, and understood that the actions she was giving his life for were wrong, so when she left, she didn't made us follow her, she knew what was right for us and for you, her only grandson. She wasn't out of our lives, but still avoided to tell us anything about her life, until that day came"

When my mom stopped talking, they looked to each other's eyes, with worry

"What happened? I can handle it, I told you, I'm not a kid anymore, and I want to know what happened" I said

My dad carried on

"It was a normal day, I was working on a few cases while your mom gave you breakfast in the kitchen, and out of nowhere, your grandmother's owl showed up in our window, warning us that she would come home and to get ready, she never learned to apparate, which is basically teleport, so she took her time to arrive, but when she did, she hurried us to run, to escape, and to disappear... When we were about to go, he appeared... Voldemort. Your grandmother started to fight him to win some time for us, but before we left, she..."

When I looked at my dad through the mirror, there were tears in his eyes, I never saw him cry before, so I felt powerless, like there was nothing I could do. He put away his tears with his hand, and his face hardened, with something I never saw either, true rage.

Obviously I had already watched my dad angry before, but this was different, his face hardened, my mom realized this and touched his hand, his eyes softened and he looked at me through the mirror and had a faint smile.

"We didn't have much time to say goodbye, but she was a great woman, she sacrificed her life to protect us" Said mom with a smile too.

"But, but why? Why would that dark wiz- "I tried to ask, but my dad interrupted me.

"Voldemort, (Y/n), don't be like everyone else, call him by his name, the name is only terrifying if we allow it to be."

"Okay, why Voldemort went for us? what did we do to him to target us?" I asked with genuine curiosity, out of everyone who was against him, they went after us, was dad really that powerful so that they came for us?

"That... is a story for another day, when you're older, we'll tell you, it's just that it's hard for us to talk about the past." He said, with that calmed and sympathetic tone, the tone he used when he didn't want any more questions, at least that's what mom said.

I tried to change the subject, to another important one, at least for me.

"Okay... So, how much till we get there?" I said excited.

"Welp, we're already here!" Said mom, while dad parked the car.

Apparently we were in Charing Cross Road, I don't know why would they tell me that, because I was terrible with street names, I would forget the second we left. I followed my parents and we got to a place called "The leaky cauldron", when we got in, a man greeted my dad.

"Well well, look who decided to show up, how's it going Salazar?"

"Hey Tom, it wasn't that long you know? I'm here with my wife and son, his name is (Y/n), come on little man, say hi" Said my dad while gesturing me to talk.

I was nervous, I never talked with anyone besides my parents, and I think it showed, I wasn't able to talk for about a minute, which was filled with an awkward silence, and when I finally did talk, my voice cracked in the few sentences,

"Um, H-hi Mr. Tom, my name is (Y/n), but you already know that so I don't know why I'm...."

"Hahaha! reminds me a bit of you when you were a kid Salazar, but, uh, more discreet and less nervous, by the way, hello to you too Phoebe, he reminds me nothing of you personality wise, but he does look like you when you were a kid, nice to meet you kid, its fine to feel nervous, just, don't let it all go into your head" Said the bartender

I let out an apology and my dad continued.

"We're only here to buy his stuff for his first year in Hogwarts" While he rubbed my hair as a way to try to calm me down, I guess I do need more practice, but it's hard, my voice gets stuck, and I can't say the things the way I want to say them.

"Thank you Tom, now, if you excuse us" Said my mom while taking me behind the whole bar.

I walked all the way over there looking to the ground, until mom and dad stopped walking, I looked up excited, and I found... a wall! Wait... a WALL!!?

I looked up to the wall and stupidly asked my mom "Um, mom? How are we supposed to go to Diagon alley if we're in front of a wall?"

"With this, obviously" Said my mom as she pulled out a little stick that I recognized now as her wand, I looked at it expectantly, she got close to the wall and said "Three up and two across" and touched a brick.

When she did, all of the bricks started moving, forming a spiral with a hole in the middle, and the hole grew bigger and bigger, while I stood feeling like an idiot "Of course, magic!" I said.

I grabbed both of my parents' hands and ran ahead, when we crossed it a stood in awe.

Lots and lots of stores and much more wizards, some with robes and with dressed, they all looked ancient, like they were from the 1700s or something like that, I wanted to check all the stores immediately but my dad grabbed my arm and my mom said

"Take it easy sweetie, first, we have to go to Gringotts"

"Gringotts?" I asked "What's a... Gringott? It sounds like food."

"Gringotts, dear, is where we take the money we need to buy your school stuff, think of it like a bank of some sorts, only for the wizard-folk, that's where we get galleons" Said my mom

I looked at her still kind of confused "What's a Galleon?" I asked, and my dad started to explain it to me, which was the hardest part of all of the day so far, basically, there are three coins, sickles, knuts, and galleons, and the galleons are the one with most value, he explained a bit more but I got lost in the process, too much information.

Well, the wizard-folk bank was white and intimidating, it was the tallest building of the place, we had to form a line, while we were waiting, mom said that gringotts is managed by goblins, and they didn't have much patience with little kids, so she warned me to be quiet and still, suddenly it was our turn, and my nervousness took the better of me and I looked up, I was surprised to see a goblin for the first time.

The goblin looked at us and my mom said

"We want to take some money out of the (L/N) family vault"

"Your key, ma'am" Said the goblin while he stretched his arm.

Dad already had it in his hand, it looked like a golden key, I don't know from where he took it, but he handed it to mom, and she gave it to the goblin, he inspected it for a second and then called one of his friends I guess, his name was Griphook, and we were quickly guided to go through a door, after I went through it we entered some kind of cave with torches and rails, but they looked pretty old, not the safe kind of rails, Griphook whistled, which scared me a bit, and after he did that a wagon appeared, which scared me because it seemed to appear out of nowhere.

I was kind of against going in because it didn't seem very safe, but then I thought "Oh, magic, duh" and went in with my parents, and without Griphook to touch it or anything, it started to move really fast, going left and right through some cave alleys, there were moments where I thought we would fall off, but I saw my parents and they looked relaxed, so I started to enjoy it, "Magic is really awesome..." I thought.

After a few minutes of what looked like a gigantic mine, like seriously how further does this mine go? Anyways, the wagon reached its destination, we got off it, and we stood in front of a huge round door, illuminated with torches in each side, we handed the key to the goblin, and when he opened it, green smoke started to appear, and when I could finally see, there was an amazing amount of coins, gold, silver, and bronze, I was shocked, so I looked at my parents signaling to the amount, and as if they were reading my mind, my mom said

"We were saving, you know, in case anything happened, even if we didn't want you to know, we had to be prepared, and we mainly used muggle money in low quantities."

"I guess we kind of knew a time like this would come, no matter how much we ran away from it..." My dad said.

"Well" I said "You guys must be really good at your jobs..." while giggling a bit.

When we got out of the bank with only the galleons we needed, we went to the place I was the most excited about, well, the second most excited about.

My own wand.

We arrived at a store that said

"Ollivanders? That's a weird surname... and also, why does this whole place look like the 1700s?" I asked, mixing two things that didn't really made any sense.

"The Ollivander family has dedicated themselves through centuries to create and deliver wizards their own wand, it's one of the best, if not the best, in the whole wizarding world" Said dad, his eyes were kind of, nostalgic? It's the same feeling I got when they told me stories when they were young.

I was excited, so I went in ahead to enter the store, I was about to open the door until I saw that my parents weren't with me

"Um, dad? Mom? Why aren't any of you coming with me?" I said with a tinge of nervousness in my voice, because I didn't really know how to do stuff in this world.

"Don't worry sweetie, we'll wait here, purchasing your first wand is an experience you must live alone, it's a personal moment." Said mom, with that tone that calmed me down, she approached me, handed me 7 galleons, and kissed my forehead.

I looked at the door, which looked bigger than before, and went through it, there I saw shelves with a lot of boxes, and an elderly man behind a counter, he looked at me, kind of surprised to see me there, which was weird, because I have never seen this man before in my life.

Just when I was about to try and say something, he beat me to it and said.

"Welcome, young (L/n), I assume you must be here for a wand, just like your parents before you, I can see you're a bit nervous, but don't worry, I'm always right when it comes to picking wands for young wizards" He said quite proudly, but I was still confused, so I gathered courage and prepared myself to not have any voice cracks or lower my voice, at least I tried.

"Y-you know my parents? How? I mean, I know you sold them their wands, but how can you remember?"

"Ah, well, young (Y/n), that's the thing, be it large or small, I always remember the wands I sell, and your parents wands are quite exceptional, if I do say so myself".

"Oh, that's, actually really cool... Mr. Ollivander, do you think you could tell me a bit about their wands? What makes them exceptional? I thought wands were all the same really, I don't really know a lot about the wizarding world yet..." I said, hoping he wouldn't find it odd or annoying that I asked, I was wrong, his eyes got all shining and he just started to monologue.

"Oh, well, if you insist, your mother's wand was made of alder wood, very special, because it characterized by only having useful, considerate, and overall nice owners, that's why they usually really like adventure, its also made by a very powerful core, mermaid hair, very rare, this made them very loyal, but also stubborn, they only adapt to people who know a lot of things, but aren't greedy." Said Mr. Ollivander.

"That's... impressive really, though, seeing how mom is, I think it really fits her." I said, usually I'm good at forgetting stuff, but lately, hearing about all these magical things, it's like it's ingrained in my brain, I can get a hold of them longer than the average stuff.

"And what about my dad's wand?" I looked at Mr. Ollivander.

"Well, your father's wand was also very special, his was made with cedar wood, which is truly loyal, but also protective, it has too much power when it comes to choosing someone, and it will never betray its owner, people with this wood usually have a lot of character, insight and perception, which makes them really good aurors, and even better in duels, my father once said, you should never try to deceive a wizard that owns a cedar wood wand."

"Now, about the core of it, the unusual part is that, normally, wands only have one core, your father's wand was created with two cores, both extracted from the same werewolf, specifically, their whiskers and nails, to not get into some long explanation, wands with werewolf cores choose courageous, brave and loyal wizards."

I don't know how I did it, but I could understand it, somehow, wands are a representation of what a person is, and I wish I had a good representation, I don't know what to expect, the only thing I knew is that I didn't want to disappoint my parents.

"Lastly, remember, the wand chooses the wizard, not the other way around, so don't worry if your first wand doesn't choose you." Said Mr. Ollivander, and when he finished talking, he opened a box he had in his hands and handed me a wand.

(Third person view.)

Ollivander told the boy that he had to move the wand, (Y/n) did as he said and moved the wand, he went to move it to the right, but the wand retaliated and went left, from the tip of the wand, lights flashed and an explosive reaction was heard on the side the wand went.

Ollivander didn't noticed it, but somewhere far in the store, amongst other boxes, one started to vibrate, but his well-trained ears picked up the noise when it started to get louder, as he went to pick the box up.

(Y/n) picked up the wand he let go when he heard the explosion and left it in the counter, just as Ollivander was coming with another box, he opened it and found an old wand, made by one of his antecessors, he held the box in front of (Y/n), as he carefully picked up the wand, scared of something like that happening again, or worse.

(Y/n's POV)

When Mr. Ollivander approached me, he looked weird, like excited and confused at the same time, he opened the box and extended it to me to grab the wand. When I saw the wand something moved inside me, like a missing piece of me was put back together, it was a perfectly long and dark brown wand, it looked charred, but at the same time it felt like it glowed, I could see some kind of... scales? Yeah, covering from the handle to the top of the wand, in the beginning of the handle there were less scales, but as I began to the top it was surrounded by a bit more, and the handle, it looked like some kind of scaly wing or fin, it was hard to explain.

With the feeling I got when I saw the wand, I felt decided, I took it and without me even doing anything, between the scales a liquid fire was filling them, I got a bit scared because I thought it would burn, but I felt a warm sensation in my fingers, that's when I decided to move around my wand, it glowed a bit more, and from the top of it a few sparks appeared, these started to flutter around the store, it looked amazing, they were really beautiful and striking formed by very intense and glowing colors, like red or orange, I grinned and looked at Mr. Ollivander, before I could even say anything he said.

"Well, it's obvious this wand has been waiting for you for a long time young (L/n), it was one of the most flamboyant reactions I've seen in all my years of wand maker."

"Let me tell you of what it's made of" He said, while gesturing me to sit in a chair "This wand was made by one of my antecessors, and I think it was one of his most valuable ones, it's of English oak wood, and has a dragon heartstring core, its length is 12 ½ inches and has a slightly elastic flexibility. What makes it special, is that when this wand was made, thanks to the unusual magic of its own core, it took a similar scaly form of a dragon." He said, while gesturing me to show him the wand so he could examine it.

"That... sounds... AMAZING! Could you explain what its materials mean??" I said, almost jumping from excitement only.

He laughed a bit and then said "I could, I could, but it is best if you experience it for yourself, the wand usually is similar to the owners' personality, and you may not see it or feel it, but there are great things expecting you, I feel, after all, not everyone makes that much of a spectacle when a wand chooses them."

"Oh... okay Mr. Ollivander, thanks" I said, starting to walk out the door, when Mr Ollivander looked at me going away, he said

"Wait! Don't forget to pay, as long as I would love to make wands free, I have to price them, it's not easy to get the materials"

"Oh, you pay for them? I guess that's what the 7 galleons my mom gave are for, sorry Mr. Ollivanders, I'm still fairly new." I said handing him the galleons.

"It's okay young (Y/n), now have a great day" He said while smiling

As I said goodbye to him, I walked out of the store, looking at my parents with the biggest smile I could have, I saw that they had the uniform ready, which made me wonder just how much time I spent in there, and I showed them my wand.

"Mom! Dad! Look! My own wand, don't you guys think it looks cool?" I said, talking fast and excited, I thought they would still look sad, but they were happy for me, but their faces were in a regretful look, like when parents scold you but in a harsh way, and then they feel bad for what they said

"Oh sweetie... it truly is a one of a kind wand, and you look so happy, we're so sorry to have hidden this for you for so long..." Said mom

"Yeah, especially because I know how it feels to feel out of place... we're really sorry for putting you through that for years, we really thought it was the best, but now that we're here, seeing you being so happy, we realize the best would've been to just tell you." Said dad.

"It's okay mom, dad, I may not understand it all yet, but you guys thought it was the best for me, and now you have told me, so we can pick up all those years you guys spent without teaching me about the wizarding world and pack them up in these few months we have, right?" I said, because I truly didn't understand it all, I don't know why they thought of it that way, at least not fully, but they were my parents, they may know something I don't.

"Well, if it helps, I know we told you your grandma was related with dragons, but my whole family, at least from my side, is related to dragon work in some way, I guess I was the black sheep." Said mom laughing a bit, I thought it was a bit weird that she worked with plants and potions and grandma with dragons, but I guess she liked plants that much.

"I guess that explains why I like dragons so much, even before finding out I always felt they were the coolest of magical creatures, they can fly and breath fire? How more cool than that can you get?" I said thinking of all the times I read about dragons in fiction, finding out they were real was something out of a dream.

We started to walk around, and while I was thinking about what was on the list, we stopped at a store called "The magical menagerie", which was filled with cages of every kind of owls, or birds in general, the store itself had a weird smell, and there was a lot of noise coming from it.

"Wait, I'll have a pet?" I asked looking at my parents with a bit of joy, because I have always asked for a pet, but they never gave me one.

"Well sweetie, it's on the norms of the school, each student can have one, it can be a cat, an owl, or a frog, but it can be any animal from that same size or smaller." Said mom.

"Okay then what are we waiting? Let's go!" I said grabbing my parents' hands.

We walked in and there was a huge variety of animals, from toads, to cats, to even snails, the smell became stronger and so did the noise, just like outside, there were a lot of aquariums, cages, or animals that walked around the store, seeing all of them at once made me have doubts, because I didn't know if I could decide, I started to see the aquariums, to look at what animals were there, while I was doing that I stumbled in one that had a pretty weird environment, it had a lot of places charred and burnt, like ash was around most places of the aquarium, and in the of it I could see why, there was a flaming sphere of medium size, that started to move around and stretch, I could see something trying to break the sphere, and when it finally broke free, a creature that looked like a small lizard came out, it had smooth red scarlet skin, it landed on its back, so it took it a while to stand up correctly, and when it opened its eyes, it looked directly to me and came close to the glass of the aquarium, after staring to each other a few seconds, I put my finger on the glass, and the little lizard looked at me and mimicked me, with its front paw.

"Mom, dad, I think I want this lizard" I said, without moving my eyes from the small creature.

Thelady that was close to the counter approached us and said "Are you sure young one? This is a fire dwelling salamander, they're exotic domestic creatures, and they're classified as XXX, it won't be easy to take care of her."

"Yeah, I'm sure, I just have the need to take it, I mean, look at it, it's so cute and cool" I said, again, without removing my finger or my eyes.

"Well then, I'll give you a manual with the instructions on how to properly take care of her, at least the food is easy, they only eat fire" I finally looked at the lady, shocked.

"This creature expulses fire and lives within it, you have to teach him to control that, and I hope it's easy, given it's a newborn, you also have to be very careful with its health, there's this skin that affects dragons and this creature that rots their scales."

I looked at the lady and nodded with my head, again excited with the thought of all the things that we would do together.

My parents payed with galleons all the implements and my new best friend, I carried her in a little box with lots of holes in it, I thought it would burn at first, but then I remembered that they probably put magic in it so it wouldn't burn. I'm not very good with coming up with names, so I named her Blaze.

After that we went to the place I was most excited about alongside the wand shop, the bookstore, it was called "Flourish and Blotts", I didn't gave the name a lot of attention and just went in, looking for books that had amazing magic in them, when I got in I was shocked, there were a lot of shelves with even more books, the shelves were so full they reached the ceiling, my mom stopped me before I could grab any books and told me they would get the books, but that I could have some free roam time and take a look to a few books that interested me and they could come back later if I wanted.

I agreed and went through some spiral stairs that took me to a second floor, I looked around and there was a smell of old and new books, I started to do what my mom said, and looked through the shelves to see if I found anything interesting to see, which honestly was most of the books, except with the potions and plants ones, mom already told me enough as it is.

From the corner of my eye I saw a book that said something about salamanders, and because I had Blaze with me now I was interested in it and went to reach it, I was so into reaching the book that I didn't notice until I was close to the shelve that there was a girl in front of the book, she was reading a book of her own and was really focused at it, because I couldn't even see her eyes, only her curly and brown bushy hair, she was a bit smaller than me, but because I never actually interacted with anyone except my parents and grandma until today, I didn't know how to approach her or talk to her, so I got a bit nervous.

After staring her for a few seconds, I gathered courage and approached her to talk to her so I could reach the book, before I could even say anything she looked up and asked.

"Can I help you?" She looked at my eyes as she said that, and I got even more nervous and averted a bit my eyes.

"Uh, I- I wanted to ask if you could, um..." I said in a whisper, she barely heard me obviously and asked once again.

"What? I don't understand you, can you repeat it?" She said, in a bossy kind of manner, like when mom asks dad for stuff

"Oh sorry, I wanted t-to ask If you could... move a bit? I want to see the book you have behind you..." I said, with every word coming out weaker, but louder than before, I think she heard me, because she looked behind her and said

"Oh, I'm sorry." And moved.

"Thanks, sorry if I interrupted your reading" I said while finally reaching for the book.

"Don't worry, I almost finished it so there's no problem"

When I finally solved the "problem" I felt relaxed, then I started to look at her more, she had brown eyes, looked to be my age, and she had a lot of books with her in a bag, I recognized them because they were from the list I had in my letter.

So once again I gathered my courage and asked her

"Um, are you by any chance a new student of Hogwarts?" I asked looking at her eyes for a few seconds, even if I was still a bit nervous.

When I said those words, her eyes opened just like her mouth in surprise and started talking.

"Yeah! I'm a student - or better said - I will be a first year student, are you going to be a new student too?" She asked, her eyes glowing while she said so.

Feeling calmer I replied to her "Yeah, I got my letter for my birthday, which was a few days ago, are you excited?"

"Excited? Obviously! It's so great, my parents are both muggles, so we were surprises when we receive the letter, they couldn't even believe it at first, how about you? Are your parents muggles too?"

"I guess they were for a while? It's kind of complicated my parents didn't tell me I was a wizard until my birthday, it was like an unprepared birthday present... huh, I guess it wasn't that complicated" I said while laughing a bit

"Well, if you ask me, that does sound kind of complicated, but all right, I guess, oh right I forgot, what's your name?" She asked while turning her head a bit to the side.

"Oh right, I got too much into talking, sorry, my name is (Y/n) (L/n), how about you?"

"I am Hermione, Hermione Granger" She said, extending her hand to mine, I stared at it a bit, until I remembered my dad taught me that people greet each other like this too, so I grabbed her hand and said.

"Pleasure to meet you Hermione."

"The pleasure is mine, (Y/n)" Said while smiling a bit

"Um, I've never had a friend before, so, I don't know if you will find it weird but, do you want to be my friend?" I asked looking away from her from the nervousness.

"Friend?" She said "I've never had any friend before, they all called me a bookworm and stayed away from me, or got close to me only to get better grades..." I could sense a bit of a sad tone in her words.

"Oh, I've never actually had a friend before too, so we can be each other's first friend, what... what do you say about that? I like reading a lot too, and playing videogames" I said with a nervous chuckle, I really didn't want to mess this up.

"Really? I don't know about videogames, but I love reading," She asked, I could see in her eyes that she had a bit of hope.

"Yeah, you don't look like a bad person, we share something in common, and... its not like I have bad grades, so I wouldn't approach you to have better grades, although I was home-schooled, so maybe that plays a role into that, but I wouldn't do that! I promise." I said with a little smile.

She smiled widely and said "Thanks"

"No, thank you Hermione."
