The crisp autumn air swirled around Y/N as they approached the Sero household, a mix of nervousness and excitement bubbling within. It was their first Thanksgiving together with Hanta, and after three years at U.A. High, meeting his family marked an important milestone in their relationship. Hanta had been enthusiastic about inviting Y/N to his home, speaking fondly of his parents and the many Thanksgiving traditions they shared.
As they stepped onto the porch, Hanta's easygoing demeanor seemed to soften a little. "You ready?" he asked, glancing sideways at Y/N with a reassuring smile.
Y/N took a deep breath, trying to shake off the jitters. "Yeah, let's do this."
"Alright! Just be yourself. My family will love you."
With that, Hanta pushed open the door, and the warm scent of roasted turkey and savory stuffing washed over them. The chatter of his family filled the space, a mix of laughter and lighthearted teasing. As soon as they entered, Hanta's mom, a woman with a warm smile and an infectious laugh, turned around from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dishtowel.
"There they are!" she exclaimed, arms open wide. "Hanta! And you must be Y/N! I've heard so much about you!"
"Hi, Mrs. Sero! It's nice to finally meet you," Y/N greeted, stepping forward to receive a warm hug.
"Please, call me Mom! Come in, come in!" she ushered them inside, where the dining table was adorned with an impressive spread of traditional Thanksgiving dishes.
Hanta's dad joined them from the living room, a jovial man with a booming voice. "Welcome, Y/N! I hope you're ready for some serious feasting. We've got everything you could dream of here!"
Y/N chuckled, feeling their nerves slowly melt away amidst the welcoming atmosphere.
As the family settled around the table, Y/N couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging. Hanta sat right beside them, occasionally squeezing their hand under the table and sharing quiet jokes that brought smiles to their faces.
"Alright, before we dig in," Hanta's mom said, looking around the table, "let's go around and say what we're thankful for this year."
Y/N felt a wave of shyness wash over them as they listened to Hanta's dad express gratitude for family and health, while Hanta's sister gushed about her newfound love for crafting. When it came to Y/N's turn, they looked down at their plate, heart racing slightly.
"I'm thankful for… new beginnings and the people I get to share them with," Y/N said softly, looking around the table. "I'm really thankful for being here with all of you."
Hanta's eyes brightened, and his smile widened. "That was sweet. I'm thankful for Y/N," he said, his gaze warm and sincere. "They've made this year one of the best."
A chorus of "Aw"s erupted from the family, and Y/N felt their cheeks flush. Mrs. Sero reached over to pat their hand. "You both are adorable. We're glad to have Y/N as part of the family already!"
As the meal unfolded, laughter echoed around the table, silly stories from Hanta's childhood showcasing his sense of humor and mischievousness. Y/N found themselves feeling more at ease, enjoying the warmth of the conversation and the delicious food.
After dinner, the family retreated to the living room to relax. Hanta's mom prompted everyone to pick a movie for the evening. Hanta decided on a classic action film, and soon the room was filled with familiar sounds of gunfire and tension as they settled into the couch together.
Hanta leaned close, whispering jokes about the movie that made Y/N giggle, their shoulder brushing against his. They found comfort in this closeness, a shared understanding that transcended words.
As the credits rolled, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple. Y/N couldn't help but feel grateful for this day, for this moment. As they glanced around the room at Hanta's family and then back at him, they felt a wave of affection wash over them.
"Thank you for inviting me, Hanta," they said softly, as the rest of the family chatted about the next holiday plans.
"Of course! This is just the beginning. We can make this a tradition—or at least I hope it will be," he replied, his voice low and sincere.
Y/N smiled, knowing that no matter what the future held, moments like these would remain cherished memories in their hearts, a beginning woven together with laughter, love, and the spirit of Thanksgiving.
