Chapter 55 - Todoroki x Y/N Part 1

TW:CHAOS, VIOLENCE, APPERANCE, DRAMA, FIGHTING!

Thanksgiving morning dawned crisp and clear, the edges of the horizon painted in soft pastels as Y/N glanced around her small apartment in Musutafu. Today was special; not only was it her favorite holiday, but it would also be her first Thanksgiving with Shoto Todoroki, the boy who had captivated her heart and mind for the last two years. This year, however, was going to be different. Shoto had invited her to his home—a place shrouded in both warmth and uncertainty.

"Are you ready?" Shoto asked as he stood by the doorway, hands tucked in the pockets of his casual navy sweater. His white hair glinted in the sunlight, and Y/N couldn't help but smile.

"Always," she replied, a bit nervously as she glanced down at the beautiful pumpkin pie she had baked to bring. It felt like a small offering, a hopeful gesture that would bridge the gap between their two worlds.

The drive to the Todoroki estate was filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension. They hadn't told her family about their relationship yet, and Y/N felt an underlying tension knowing she would be meeting his family without them knowing the full truth. What would they think?

As they arrived, Y/N's heart raced. The Todoroki family estate was breathtaking, a vast structure that stood as a testament to the family's legacy. But as they stepped inside, a coolness settled over her. She could sense the weight of the family's history lingering in the air.

"Everyone's helping out in the kitchen," Shoto said, his voice steady, but Y/N noticed the slight tightening of his jaw. "Just be yourself."

"Easy for you to say," she muttered under her breath, and he managed a reassuring smile as they walked into the dining room.

The space was filled with warmth—rich, savory smells wafting from the enormous kitchen where Shoto's sister, Fuyumi, was bustling about, preparing the final touches for dinner.

"Shoto! Y/N! You made it!" Fuyumi exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. She approached them and pulled Y/N into a warm embrace. "I'm so glad you could join us. It's been a while since we had someone extra at the table."

"Thanks for having me," Y/N replied, feeling a little more at ease.

As they settled at the table, the chatter of family and comfort began to envelop Y/N. Shoto's father, Enji Todoroki, sat at the head of the table, his powerful presence overshadowing the rest of the room. Y/N couldn't shake off the feeling that something heavy loomed beneath the surface of this gathering.

Throughout dinner, whispers of the past echoed. Enji, despite the warmth of the holiday, kept steering the conversation towards the themes of marriage and traditions, as if trying to gauge his son's intentions about continuing the Todoroki legacy.

"Shoto," Enji said, his voice booming, "it's time you start thinking seriously about settling down. The Todoroki name deserves to carry on—"

"Dad, can we just enjoy the meal?" Shoto interjected, his tone tight. Y/N could see the tension starting to spiral.

Just as Y/N felt her heart drop, fearing an argument might erupt, the air shifted. Suddenly, the front door swung wide open. A figure stepped inside, silhouetted against the bright hallway light.

"Enough! Stop scaring everyone!" a familiar voice boomed, cutting through the heightened atmosphere like a sword through silk.

Everyone froze.

"Dabi?" Fuyumi whispered in shock. The room fell into a heavy silence, with eyes wide as portals to disbelief.

Dabi—Touya Todoroki, the oldest brother who had been presumed dead after the tragic fire that scarred their family and marred his life—stood there, a blended expression of exhaustion, relief, and anger. He looked older; time had touched him in mysterious ways, but the fire in his eyes was unmistakable.

"Did you really think you could just pretend everything was fine while I was gone?" he snapped, glaring at Enji, who remained seated, mouth agape. "You don't even know how to talk to your family without bringing up bloodlines or marriage!"

Y/N felt the weight of the moment; tensions erupted as voices clashed, and the reality of their family drama flooded back into the space like an unwelcome specter. Enji rose, his face a mix of pride and dismay, while Fuyumi and Natsuo exchanged worried glances.

For Y/N, standing on the precipice of this family confrontation felt surreal. She hadn't planned for this Thanksgiving story; she had only hoped for warmth and acceptance.

Amidst the chaos, Shoto reached for her hand beneath the table. His grip was firm yet trembling, and Y/N realized she wasn't just a spectator anymore. She was part of this family now, bound by the heart that connected her to Shoto—and in this moment, she knew they would weather this storm together.

As Dabi's return ignited memories best left buried, Y/N squeezed Shoto's hand tighter. This was more than a holiday; it was a beginning—a chance for healing, understanding, and a tentative step towards new beginnings. No matter what happened next, they would face it side by side, turning a chaotic Thanksgiving into a reunion that would forever change their family narrative.
