What was with this guy's self-satisfaction? The original host might have liked Prince Leng, but Ning Shu certainly didn't. His narcissistic attitude was seriously annoying.
Seriously, does your family know how "awesome" you think you are?
"Do you have a problem?" Ning Shu asked, pointing to her head.
"The only reason I invited you to the birthday party was to give Ling Xue some face. She was generous enough to let the past go, but I won't let you hurt her. Remember your place, lower-class person." Leng Ao lifted his chin, looking down on her like he was a god and she was just a mortal.
What was going on in this guy's head? He was completely lost in his own world. Even self-talk has its limits, right? She had only said one sentence this whole time.
You're so unbelievably amazing that the world can't handle you anymore.
"You better remember my words. Otherwise, you'll regret it." After Leng Ao finished speaking, he turned and walked away.
Ning Shu took a deep breath. The world was beautiful, so it was best to ignore annoying things.
"If you have a mental illness, you should be taking medication. Why abandon treatment?" Ning Shu yelled after him, then turned and walked away.
The next day, Ning Shu dressed in her usual clothes, tucked a pistol into her waistband, and headed to Prince Leng's birthday party.
It was being held at a private club. As she approached the entrance, she saw a lineup of parked luxury cars. One after another, handsome men and beautiful women in expensive outfits got out of the cars.
Ning Shu felt completely out of place. Everyone shot her disdainful glances, and some girls in hanfu were even giggling behind their hands.
The harshness of the world hit Ning Shu hard.
An Rong also stepped out of a car. When she spotted Ning Shu, she glared fiercely. Lifting the hem of her evening gown, she approached with a cold laugh, "You actually came. Are you here to guard the doors or something?"
Ning Shu glanced at An Rong, who hadn't shown up to class since being injured by Ling Xue. Her face was still pale; she looked more like she was there to pay her respects at a funeral than to celebrate a birthday.
Ning Shu couldn't believe someone would force themselves to attend a party while still sick.
An Rong clearly noticed how bad she looked. When she caught Ning Shu staring, she snapped, "What are you looking at? I won't forget how you insulted and humiliated me."
Ning Shu wasn't about to take the blame. "Get it straight. I didn't do anything; it was Ling Xue's fault you got injured. Why are you blaming me?"
An Rong paused for a moment, then shot back, "Ling Xue didn't do it on purpose. Besides, she didn't do anything to me at all."
"I didn't do anything to you either! I'm right here in front of you. If I had Ling Xue's powers, you'd already be back in the hospital," Ning Shu retorted.
"Ling Xue would never do that to me. Stop trying to cause trouble. I won't believe you," An Rong declared firmly.
Ning Shu: …
To make the main character's charm shine, this world really had to lower the IQ of the supporting characters. The truth was clear, yet An Rong was too stubborn to see it.
The female lead was always right. If the female lead was wrong, then the whole world was wrong.
"Whatever. Believe what you want," Ning Shu said, sidestepping An Rong to get inside.
An Rong grabbed Ning Shu's arm to stop her. "What? You want to fight?" Ning Shu asked, turning around.
An Rong replied, "I wouldn't cause a scene during Prince Leng's birthday party. But are you really sure I was injured because of Ling Xue?"
"Of course! If I had powers like Ling Xue, I would have already made you disabled and gotten my revenge," Ning Shu said with disdain.
An Rong had a crush on Prince Leng too, which puzzled Ning Shu. Didn't she envy Ling Xue for being favored by him? Yet here she was, acting as Ling Xue's lackey. It was no wonder the original host, Lin Jiajia, had been ridiculously jealous.
