Lysander sat in the front passenger seat of the car, with Mia curled up on his laps. She was fast asleep and Lysander smiled as he stared at how peaceful she looked.
Deep down he cursed himself for not finding out she had disappeared. He knew he shouldn't have listened to Lucian when he said Mia was probably spending time with her human boyfriend.
"Please don't leave me," he heard her say in her sleep as she snuggled up to him. He gently brushed the hair off her face, revealing her blood stained face. He clenched his teeth in anger as he recalled what Dorian put her through.
He was going to make Dorain pay dearly.
The car stopped in front of the house and Lysander walked out with Mia still in his arms.
"Get me a towel and warm water Morg. Alaric, call the doctor." Lysander instructed the two people who looked at him as if he suddenly grew a second head.
Lysander carefully placed Mia on the bed and gently sat beside her, stroking her hair affectionately.
"I'm sorry I let this happen to you," he mumbled, letting out a deep breath.
Morg walked in with the warm water and towel, gently placing it on the bed. She put the towel in the water and squeezed it a bit but Lysander stopped her before she could start cleaning.
"I'll do it. You can leave."
Morg watched in disbelief as Lysander carefully cleaned Mia's wound. It was almost as if he was scared to cause her pain.
She watched his icy exterior melted away right before her eyes as he treated her wounds with such tenderness she hasn't seen before.
Lysander wiped the blood and dirt off Mia's face and arms, his expression softening with each touch.
The vampire, who had always been distant, was now pouring his heart into taking care of this human.
She could see the love in Lysander's eyes as he stroked her hair with the damp towel.
"You lover her, don't you?" Morg asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lysander hesitated, the weight of his feelings pressing down on him.
" I don't want to Morgana. Her simple life has only been filled with pain since I walked into it. I wanted to keep my distance, but, I realized I couldn't live with myself if something happened to her."
Morgana smiled without saying a word as she continued to watch Lysander tend to Mia.
There was a slight knock on the door and Alaric walked in with the doctor. Morgana and Alaric walked out leaving the doctor with Lysander and Mia.
The doctor as Lysander to step aside so that he can examine Mia which he did so hesitantly.
"Is she going to be alright? She's not seriously hurt is she?" He asked the doctor every second.
"Look sir, if you allow me to examine her, I can tell you exactly what is wrong. If you keep asking me like this, you're only causing a distraction," the doctor said, clearly angry.
The room returned to it's normal silence as the doctor returned to work.
"You saved me," a weak voice pulled Lysander from his thoughts. He immediately rushed to Mia's side.
"You're awake! Are you alright? Is any part of your body hurting? Do you need to tell the doctor something?" Lysander fired with question after question.
"Hey…I'm ok," Mia smiled warmly, trying to sit up but pain shot through her whole body, causing her to wince in pain.
Lysander quickly held her down.
"Stay there, just tell me what you want and I'll get it," Lysander said, his eyes soft on her.
"I…I want to use the washroom," Mia said, her face turning pink with shyness.
"Oh….Let the doctor finished checking you and the I'll take you to the bathroom," Lysander said and Mia nodded.
After examining her, the doctor prescribed a set of painkillers for her and recommended bed rest before leaving the two alone.
Lysander immediately locked the door and walked to the bed.
Mia bit her lip and stared up at the ceiling, not wanting to make eye contact with the man that made her heart race. She also didn't want him to see how hard she was blushing, because she was blushing for no reason.
The thought of it even made her smile.
She gasped in surprise when Lysander lifted her in bridal style.
"Did I hurt you?" He asked, his brows furrowing in a frown.
Mia shook her head, not knowing the right words to us. Her brain was completely blank and her tongue seemed to have stopped working as well.
'What is he doing to me?' She wondered, slowly lifting her head to look at him.
Her heart skipped a beat as soon as their eyes met and she quickly looked away.
"We're here, can you standi on your own?"
Mia nodded, too flustered to talk.
"Ok….be gentle."
Lysander wondered why she was looking at him when he put her down. Didn't she say she wanted to use the washroom? So why was she just standing?
"C…could you pl…please excuse me?" She asked, fidgeting with her fingers.
Lysander mouth formed and "O" when he realized she needed privacy. He quickly turned his back towards her before apologizing for not realizing earlier.
"You can go out…I can manage. I'll come out when I'm done."
Lysander frowned at her words. There was no way he was going to leave her alone in there. What if she needs him?
"I will be fine. I can't do what I have to do if you stand her, you know."
Lysander sighed before nodding and walking out, closing the door softly behind him. He could hear her movements inside, but his heart was filled with worry. The thought of her being vulnerable even for a moment made him anxious. He began pacing back and forth outside the door, his footsteps echoing in the silence.
What's she alright in there? Was was keeping her there? Is she hurt? Should he go in? What if she needed him?
Each thought was a dagger to his heart. And he clenched his fist, fighting the urge to burst the door open. He had vowed to protect her but now he felt helpless.
"Lysander?!" A voice pulled him out of thoughts, followed by a knock on his bedroom door.
He dragged himself to the door and opened it revealing Alaric and Lucian.
"What is it? Why do you look worried? Is she alright?" Alarica asked, looking at Lysander with concern.
He glanced over Lysander's shoulder to see that the bed was empty.
"Lysander where is she?" Alaric asked, pushing his way through.
Before Lysander could talk, the bathroom door opened and Mia limped out.
"I…is something wrong?" Mia asked, looking at the three men who had their gazes fixed on her.
Her heart stopped when she saw the one who walked him.
"L…Lucian?"
"You don't have to worry about him," Lysander said helping Mia get in bed.
"The doctor asked you to rest. I'll get you something to eat."
"Huh?!" Alaric's jaw dropped. He stared at Lysander without blinking as Lysander tucked the human in.
"She needs to rest, so two two should leave. And Alaric call Morg here." Lysander said, as she sat on the bed close to the human.
"Should I ask Morg to bring the food in?" Alaric asked, but Lucian was already out the door.
"No…I just need her to be with Anna. I'll get the food myself."
Alaric was taken aback. He had never seen Lysander show so much care before.
'This human is really changing Lysander," Alaric smiled inwardly as he walked out.
*************
Mia looked at at Lysander who was leaning on the headboard with his eyes closed. Her heart was racing as she stared at the man who had rescued her twice when she had lost all hope.
Mia smiled, feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude and confusion.
"How did he know where she was? And why was he interacting with the other man as if they had known each other for ages?
Her mind drifted to the man—what was his name?— Dorian.
Mia wondered why he drank blood. Wasn't it disgusting? Wasn't he scared of the risk of getting an infection?
But deep down she was happy she was rescued in time. Who would have known what he would have done to her.
Mia shifted her eyes back to the man by her side, his presence made her feel safe instantly and she took in a deep breath, filling her nostrils with his manly cologne.
But there was something about him that she couldn't fully grasped. And being with Dorian made her realize that whatever she was seeing in this man wasn't just an illusion.
They moved moved with an unnatural grace and speed. They were both pale and their eyes….there was something about their eyes.
They both stared at her an intensity that made her shiver, the only difference was that with Dorian, she would shiver in fright.
Suddenly his eyes opened, making her jump in fear at the suddenness. She was still not used to his eye color. Yet despite the fear that gripped her, Mia felt a strange pull towards him. He had saved her. He had risked his life to save her.
In that moment, she realized she had fallen for the man in front of her.
