Marvel Scientist Becomes God, Ch 22
"Roar!"
In a sealed steel cell, a middle-aged man let out an angry roar, repeatedly pounding on the walls. With each strike, his body began to swell rapidly, covered in green scales, and a long tongue flicked out as his golden eyes darted around.
"What's he doing?"
Among the researchers in white lab coats in the control room, a young researcher couldn't help but ask.
"Maybe he's thinking."
"Is he a lizard now but still has human thoughts?"
"Preliminary observations suggest so, but we cannot yet determine how much human thought he retains."
The researchers enthusiastically discussed the subject. Suddenly, a video feed connected to the computer, and a weary middle-aged man appeared on the screen, asking, "How are the human trials going?"
The project leader shook his head regretfully and said, "Chairman, I'm sorry, but the subject still cannot maintain a human form. Our understanding of the metamorphosis rate is inadequate. We need Dr. Connor's assistance, or perhaps that new Dr. Ye. I've heard he perfected the metamorphosis rate formula."
The middle-aged man paused in silence for a moment before replying, "Alright, I'll make arrangements."
With Ye Hai's understanding of genetics, altering Gwen's original body wouldn't be difficult. Ye Hai estimated he could solve this problem within two or three days with his abilities.
The next day, while conducting his experiments, a beautiful woman dressed in a black suit entered the room. Her sensual figure and striking face immediately caught Ye Hai's attention.
"Are you looking for someone?" he asked.
The woman smiled brightly and said, "Are you Dr. Ye?"
"Yes, that's me," Ye Hai nodded.
The woman extended her fair hand and said, "I'm Natasha Romanoff, the new secretary for the Chairman."
"Nice to meet you." Ye Hai shook her hand lightly, thinking to himself, "Natasha Romanoff? Isn't that the name of Black Widow? Why has she come to Osborn as a secretary? Is she here to investigate me?"
"Do you need something from me?" he asked.
Natasha smiled and replied, "I'm not the one looking for you; it's the Chairman who wants to see you. He's waiting for you in his office, Dr. Ye. Please follow me."
"Alright."
Ye Hai nodded slightly, recalling that he had forgotten about the Chairman amidst his busy research on mutant gene technology. It seemed that his collaboration with the Chairman could finally take place.
As Ye Hai followed Natasha out of the lab, he asked, "You seem quite young, Miss Natasha. Which university did you graduate from?"
"I graduated from Moscow State University," she replied with a smile.
"Moscow State University?" Ye Hai assessed Natasha, "So you're not American?"
"Correct, I'm Russian."
"Miss Natasha, you have a fantastic figure. Do you exercise regularly?"
"Of course, I really enjoy working out."
"What kind of exercise do you like?"
"Martial arts!"
"Miss Natasha, you have particularly interesting hobbies!"
The two continued chatting and eventually arrived at the top floor of the Osborn building, entering the Chairman's office.
Inside stood a middle-aged man with graying hair. Though he didn't appear particularly old, his face reflected an illness; the genetic condition of Osborn was clearly taking its toll, and his life expectancy was dwindling.
This man was, of course, Norman Osborn, the Chairman.
Upon seeing Norman, Ye Hai went straight to the point, "It seems that the Chairman is gravely ill. Judging by your condition, if you don't receive gene repair treatment, you won't last another two months."
Norman glared at him in anger, saying, "Dr. Ye, you should show some respect to your superior, or at least some compassion for a sick person!"
Ye Hai shrugged and replied, "Of course, but don't worry, Chairman. I can solve your genetic disease."
Norman raised one corner of his mouth, a hint of disdain in his smile, "Oh? You're perhaps a bit too confident, young man. From what I know, your recent research has yielded no results in genetics."
Ye Hai retorted disdainfully, "That's because I have no interest in researching animal gene fusion technology. It would be a one-way road; even if I succeeded, I would just become another Dr. Connor."
"That was merely an accident. I believe animal fusion gene technology will become perfect," Norman replied, displeased.
"But, Chairman, it's too late for you, isn't it?" Ye Hai mockingly looked at Norman. "Let me outline your recent actions: you eagerly started researching human trials, but aside from creating a few monsters, you have achieved nothing. So you came to me, intending to coerce me into participating in the human trials, right?"
Norman became furious, saying, "You were spying on my experiments?"
Ye Hai pointed at his own head and said, "I don't need to spy. I can know what the Chairman is likely to do."
Then he fixed his gaze on Norman, "Let's get straight to it, Mr. Osborn. I possess complete gene technology, but if you want it, you will have to pay the corresponding price."
Norman, infuriated, laughed and said, "You are my employee. All of your research results belong to me. Young man, don't let a bit of cleverness lead you to hubris. There are many dangers in this world, and seeking something beyond your capability can cost you your life!"
Ye Hai ignored his threat and grabbed a statue on the wall. The steel-crafted artwork easily morphed in his hands like clay.
Norman's pupils constricted, and shock filled his face as he realized that his power could not threaten this young man; he would need to resort to other means.
Taking a deep breath, Norman looked steadily at Ye Hai and grinned, "Young man, state your terms."
"20% of Osborn Industries' shares!"
