After greeting Dr. Connors, Peter and Gwen became assistants to Yehai, who gathered a few more people to temporarily form a small team. The members were quite rudimentary and still in the early stages of development, but Yehai didn't mind; in fact, these people were largely a facade. Any significant progress in research would mainly depend on Yehai himself.
In the laboratory, Yehai waved, "Peter, Gwen, come over here!"
Peter and Gwen hurried over and asked, "What's up, Yeh?"
Yehai, holding two syringes, smiled and said, "The ultimate aim of our research is for human application. Today, Dr. Connors asked me to prepare for cell fusion between human and lizard blood, so I need some human blood. Are you two willing to contribute to science?"
Gwen complained, "You can buy human blood from the hospital! Our blood is very precious!"
Although Gwen grumbled, she rolled up her sleeves, ready to go.
Peter, however, showed a flash of panic in his eyes and shook his head, "Yeh, I'm sorry, I have anemia. I can't donate blood!"
Gwen looked at him disdainfully and exclaimed, "No way, Peter! You look perfectly fine and energetic! If you don't want to donate, just say so—no need to lie!"
"Yeah, Peter, what's the reason you don't want to donate? It's no big deal for a guy to lose a little blood. You don't want to be outdone by a girl, do you?" Yehai remarked, a playful expression on his face.
Peter felt a jolt of anxiety—had he been found out? No, no matter what, I can't let my serum end up on his lab table; that would expose all my secrets.
"I'm really sorry, you guys, but I can't donate blood!" Peter insisted firmly.
Yehai chuckled, "Looks like Peter has some matters he can't discuss, so I won't press him."
Gwen glanced at Peter with contempt. Not wanting to donate blood, he probably had some embarrassing illness.
Feeling awkward, Peter's expression reflected a mix of bitterness and confusion.
Seizing the moment while Peter was distracted, Yehai suddenly pressed a button on the control panel, and two mechanical arms abruptly reached out and grabbed Peter. In less than a second, a needle pierced Peter's skin and extracted quite a bit of blood.
"What are you doing?"
Peter shouted angrily, wanting to retaliate, but his usually low-key personality made him abandon that idea and instead glare at Yehai.
"Yehai, what the hell are you doing? Let him go right now!" Gwen looked at him with some displeasure.
"Calm down, I'm just taking a little blood to contribute to the evolution of humanity," Yehai shrugged indifferently. The mechanical arm then handed him the syringe filled with Peter's blood, which Yehai subsequently stored in a safe.
"Peter, I've got your blood now, don't worry; I'll keep your little secret safe!" Yehai winked at Peter and released him.
Peter glanced at the safe, wanting to rush over and reclaim his blood, but doing so would inevitably reveal his abilities. Yehai seemed to have uncovered my secret; I hope he really will keep it a secret.
Seeing Peter so nervous, Gwen couldn't help but laugh inwardly. She thought Yehai might be hiding some embarrassing disease from him.
With Peter's serum in hand, Yehai felt energized. He began to work tirelessly on the research of Spider-Man's serum. Initially, he focused on organizing the data, using a level one brain domain, generating enough scientific value in just one day. After completing the data organization, he then transitioned to level two brain domain research, eventually even activating the level three brain domain. His IQ increased further, but the corresponding scientific value was depleting rapidly.
To activate the level three brain domain required 100 points a day, but he only had just over a thousand points, which wouldn't last long.
During these days, Yehai had abandoned the lizard research, causing significant stagnation in its progress, and Dr. Connors was facing difficulties.
In Dr. Connors's office, he and Dr. Rada were in a heated argument.
Dr. Connors looked at the little white mouse on the table, visibly excited: "The cross-species genetics is fully effective. Freddy's leg has completely regenerated and is healthy. There have been no side effects recently!"
Freddy was the little white mouse on the table.
"It's a miracle," Dr. Rada reiterated, but then turned to Dr. Connors, "But the experimental progress is too slow! You haven't made any further breakthroughs recently! That brilliant genius Yehai has been completely silent these past few days!"
"Slow?" Dr. Connors shook his head. "I don't see it that way. Scientific research is a gradual process; it's not like a poet can create simply through inspiration. We need foundational research. Only when that is solid can our inspirations take effect; otherwise, it's just forcing growth, which could yield negative results."
"But the BOSS doesn't have time to wait for your slow progress," Dr. Rada stared intently at Dr. Connors.
Dr. Connors faltered, then solemnly said, "He has to wait. There's no other way unless he wants to be a test subject."
Dr. Rada shrugged, "He won't be a test subject. He's quite anxious; he wants you to speed things up and eliminate the unnecessary steps!"
Dr. Connors's brow twitched: "What do you mean by that? Do you want..."
"Exactly, human trials!" Dr. Rada said emphatically, "You need to conduct human trials!"
"No way, absolutely not!" Dr. Connors angrily refused. "That's playing with human lives! You can't joke about people's lives, and besides, you won't even find volunteers!"
Dr. Rada chuckled, "We can call it a flu vaccine; who can complain? We could test it on veterans at the hospital."
"Are you serious?" Dr. Connors looked at Dr. Rada incredulously.
"What do you think?" Dr. Rada sneered, "Don't speak in such righteous tones. Richard Parker did the same thing back in the day, and what happened then?"
The result was, of course, a plane malfunction, leading to the death of the couple, leaving only Peter Parker, now Spider-Man.
Dr. Connors felt a tremor in his heart. Silently staring at Dr. Rada, he stubbornly shook his head again, "I can't do it!"
"Fine, the formula belongs to the company now. Say goodbye to your dream of growing that arm," Dr. Rada said, shaking his head regretfully. "You're fired! Clear out your office by morning. You can take your little pets with you."
With that, he picked up some documents and a vial of serum and walked out of the office.
Dr. Connors sat dazed, watching Dr. Rada leave, recalling his decades of effort, seeing his dreams shattered. He felt despondent, then was filled with anger and resentment.
"There will be a way," he told himself, eventually setting his sights on the serum on the table. "Maybe I can try it on myself!"
