"Listen very carefully, son," the Queen repeated, her voice firm but controlled. "You are to end this...this...whatever it is you have with this...this...girl. You are to focus on your duties and your responsibilities to this family and to the Royal Family."
Wesley's eyes narrowed slightly, but he kept his expression neutral. "As you wish, Your Highness," he said, his voice smooth.
The Queen's eyes flashed with anger. "Don't play games with me, Wesley. I know you too well. You will do as I say, or you will face the consequences."
Wesley's mother stepped forward, placing a hand on her son's arm. "Wesley, please. Just listen to her. It's for the best."
Wesley's eyes flicked to his mother, and for a moment, Charlotte thought she saw a glimmer of something there - frustration, maybe, or resentment. But it was quickly masked, and he nodded, his expression once again neutral.
