I jolted awake. My heart was pounding ferociously in my chest and a cold sweat covered my body. I was dreaming. And for the first time in a very long time, that dream was a nightmare. Avery had met the same demise as Sam's sister, and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
The dream had left me shaking, and my throat dry. I reached my hand over and felt for Avery. He was warm, and breathing. Relieved, I slung the covers off of my body and left the tiny bedroom. I grabbed a bottle of water and stepped outside onto the tower's balcony. The fresh night air immediately helped me catch my breath. I opened the bottle and chugged the entire thing.
