Chapter 12 - Two Way Tie! CH.12

"bag?"

Says Ayase.

"Check!"

Replies both Barnabas and Craig.

"Cross?"

Asks Carl.

"Check!"

"Okay then, I suppose it's time for your outing."

Says Carl, slightly worried about both Barnabas and Craig.

"Sure is, and don't worry, if we get in trouble, we'll always know our way back!"

Says Barnabas, with a cheerful smile on his face, before clenching his cross with his fist, showing that he is protected at all times.

"But please, don't go and get yourselves killed."

"Any immediate danger, INSTANTLY come back, you hear me?"

Says Ayase, in a a strict tone, almost like a mother reassuring her children on there first day of school.

"Right!"

They both say, before stepping out of the damp cave, and entering the large woods, filled with various large trees, all with the same straight forward posture.

As Ayase, Sylvia, Carl, Levi and Teddy all watch as Craig and Barnabas, who are the strongest people in there group step forward north, in hopes of finding a new place for them to live.

"There going to get in trouble, aren't they?"

Says Ayase, looking towards Carl with a slightly worrisome look on her face.

"Most likely, but while they may not be the brightest, there the strongest we have, and together they'll be 10x stronger!"

Says Carl, with a reassuring tone, before wrapping his arms around Ayase, and resting his head on hers, as they watch two brave soldiers march into the unknown.

As they peer over the ledge, once again a twist of fate occurs right I front of them, as they here words, words that could change the strings of fate and hope in an instant.

"Guys, I've checked Teddy's temperature, and he's ill."

"Badly."

As Ayase and Carl both scrambled towards Teddy, they are shocked to see Teddy wrapped in a dirty old clothe, as he holds his teddy close towards him, to use as heat, as his nose is now bright red, and the bag under eye has grown larger, as he shivers under his blanket, his hands shake.

"It must have been because we were preserving our wood we had."

"We should have kept the fire going, dammit!"

"I should have known.."

Says Levi, clearly frustrated by his sudden drop of independence.

"It's not your fault, Levi, you're the smartest one out of all of us, dont blame yourself for a simple hiccup we would have never thought of."

Says Carl, while staring down at the ill Teddy, along with the rest of his family.

As they all sit down by the fire, as Teddy grows more ill, they all sit down and peer into the unknowing fire, looking back at how serious there situation is, as at one moment; everything could be going the best for them; and then, boom, everything could go to hell, without them even knowing.

The string of fate truly is a torturous thing, yet can come in help at various moments, I guess life truly is a gamblers game.

"We're so done for."

Says Levi, looking down at his feet, as the fire burns in the reflection of the damp rock beneath him.

"If Craig and Barnabas don't find a new home, we are so screwed."

"W-what are you talking about, Levi?"

Says Ayase, confused by his sudden depressing reveal.

"There are no new resources growing in our perimiter due to winters season, so unless they find a place where sertain foods can grow, then we are done for."

Says Levi, who seemed to had lost hope.

"D-dont say that!"

"We still have Barnabas' power!"

Says Ayase, frantically.

"No use, it takes up too much of his physical energy, he'd most likely end up dying."

Says Levi.

"Ugh!"

"Why are you such a downer, Levi?"

"I get it, we all get it, we are screwed, but you don't need to remind us!"

"Our main motto is to believe, and stay hopeful, your achieving nothing saying this!"

Shouts Carl, towards Levi across the campfire.

"Your right, I'm stating the obvious."

"But that's only because if I don't, and if we continue to rely on our 'instincts' we will all end up dying."

"So instead, it's time I stand up and become our makeshift leader, because I am tired of us waiting around like we are some kind of prisoner, ready to be slaughtered."

Shouts Levi, towards Carl across the campfire.

"While I see where you're coming from, not everyone will be in board with your weird plans, we don't have brilliant minds like yours, okay?"

"While it may be risky, our way is a lot less stressful okay?!"

Carl says, counter-attacking Levi.

"Well, the death of Lucy was pretty stressful if you ask me!"

Says Levi, as the entire cave goes silent as the only thing that could be heard was the echoing sounds of water dripping from the roof of the cave.

"Well.. I'm sorry, I don't care if I'm a pig, being framed for slaughter, the only way for us to keep our hopes up is to stay delusional!"

Says Carl, clearly wanting the argument to stop.

"What's a pig-"

Before levi could finish his sentence, he is interrupted by a loud scream, coming from the entrance of the cave.

"Everyone stop!"

It was Sylvia, who was screaming louder than she ever had."

"It's Teddy, he's gone!"

She says, before pointing towards the spot where Teddy was once fast asleep on."

As everyone frantically panick, quickly gavering there resources to venture out to find Teddy, Levi slowly sits down, realising he had once again messed up.

"Dammit.."

He says.

"Levi, I'm sorry for what I said before, I was just so lost in Lucy's death that I wasn't thinking clearly, out of all of us, your the one we should put our trust in, not me."

Carl says, before reaching out his hand to holst Levi up.

"Thanks, now let's go, before he wonders of too far."

Levi says, now back to his normal self, right?

As everyone rapidly sets forwards out into the now dark Forrest, levi pauses for a moment, before biting down into his thumbs nail, and giving a blank stare towards the rest of his family, his eyes piercing with intellect and pure concentration, as his cogs in his smart brain move and turn.

"Something's not right.."

He says, before exiting his trans, and catching up with the rest of them.

As leaves, and vines tangle in Barnabas' and Craig's feet, they eventually are met with a large, almost ever-lasting swamp, full of murky water, which spread on forever, which dampened the mud beneath it.

Heavy, big vines seemed to twist and turn at every corner, as most trees seemed to be filled with nothing but moss, who knows what's to come in both Barnabas and Craig's adventures, and the rest of the family's adventures?

Only fates loose strings will reveal it's self when time do tell..
