ELOISE POV—
After finishing my business at Gringotts or now known as Marxe, we were on our way to buy books for my first year. Snape asked, 'Ms. Stark, you want new books, am I right?' I nodded my head, I really wanted new books, 'very well then, are you a book enthusiast?'
He is indeed correct. I really like to read and analyse all kinds of books. I said, 'Yes, I like to read new books. You can say I am kid of a book nerd.'
Snape smirked at my words. He said, 'Books make us smarter, Ms. Stark. I have encountered plenty of buffoons who think themselves smarter than a book as if they are above the authority. They think everyone is beneath them. I had a very unfortunate experience with a few men like that, especially one. Though that doesn't mean books are always right. Sometimes even they are wrong.'
Yeah, I remember very well that Snape was kind of a nerd. A few men, hmmm, sounds like he is talking the Marauders. Hah, it seems his hatred for James Potter is still at its peak. That isn't going to change anytime soon and Harry is going to face the full brunt of it.
We bought my books and then, the other things like cauldron, telescope, etc. Hmm, I have bought all these things, what's left is my robes and wand.
Snape said, 'Ms. Stark, we have almost finished buying all the necessary items for your first year. We just need to buy your robes and wand. Let's go to the wand shop first and then, buy your robes.'
Oh gosh! I am going to have my very own personal wand. I have only read about it in books and seen it in movies. This time I am going to experience it personally. Although I can do wandless magic, I am still excited. Now, some of you may point out that I can do wandless magic. So, why do I need a wand? That's the question for some other time. Let's focus on this, okay?
We reached the Ollivanders. There was a writing inscribed on the right-hand side wall of the shop. It stated— A Wand Chooses its Wizard. We entered the shop. There was a man in his 50s with long white hair and beard, wearing spectacles, sitting on a stool.
The man named Ollivander said, 'Hello there, I welcome you both to my shop. Professor Snape, it seems you have brought a new student with you to my shop. I never thought you to be the kind to counsel someone. Yet it seems, miracles do happen.'
'Ollivander, just do your job. No need to pry in my business. Give the wand suitable for her so that we can quickly get out of here,' said Snape in a very cold tone. Is Ollivanders kind of mad? Or he is just dense?
Ollivander said, 'Fine. Young lady, let's get you a wand. Ah, show me your good hand.'
I raised my right hand indicating that the right one is my wand hand. He nodded and stood up from his stool and sauntured toward his shelves. He retrieved a box from his shelves. He opened the box and handed me the wand that was present inside.
He said, 'Try it. Just wave the hand.'
Like he said, I waved the wand that was present in my right hand. Nothing happened.
'Oh, not this then. Let's try another one,' said Ollivander.
I tried at least 20 wands but nothing happened. Ollivander looked surprised. He said, 'I never seen any customer trying these wands but not even getting accepted by even a single. Either you have a great potential or you have no potential at all. Let's try this one. I think I know which category you fall in.'
He took out a new box from his drawer and handed me to try. I waved the wand. The wand shined brightly at its tip. Ollivander laughed loudly. He said, 'I knew it! Haha... I have never seen someone be chosen by this wand. You, young lady, have no potential at all. This wand is one of the most basic designed wands, I had created. I thought no one would be chosen by this wand but you proved me wrong. Honestly, after witnessing the selection of Mr. Potter's wand, your selection disappointed me. You are a failure. I am sorry but it's true. Please, don't take it personally.'
It was as if all of my confidence got destroyed after hearing his words. No one, I mean literally no one said like this to me. Be it my past life or present life, people always hailed me as a genius, a woman who could achieve anything she wants to. For the first time, I have experienced such a setback.
Hearing Ollivander's words, Snape's face turned devoid of any emotions instantly. He didn't say anything to defend me. Then again, why should he? We met today for first time. He was impressed by my performance earlier and he agreed to deliver the draft to Hoppick. But it's not going to make us friends or something similar. Frankly, what did I even expect from him? I know his character very well.
Fuck it! Fuck Ollivander! Fuck Snape! Fuck that wand! I don't fucking care about getting some kind of validation from people who are not my family or friends.
I gathered all of my confidence and said, 'You know what? Ollivander, you can just fucking shove that wand of yours in your ass. I don't need your validation or your wand to prove my potential. True, your words affected me for a moment. But, remember one thing, I don't care what you think of me. Also, just take this wand back.' I threw his wand at him.
He spluttered, 'Y-you! W-watch y-y-your words—'
'Fuck off!! Also, I am not buying any wand from you or this shop. Just go and put someone's dick, in your mouth, that way you can use your mouth effectively,' I said in a blank tone.
Without saying any more word, I walked towards exit, followed by Snape.
From behind us, Ollivander yelled 'GO! JUST GET OUT OF HERE. NO ONE CAN GIVE YOU A WAND, EXCEPT ME, OLLIVANDER. REMEMBER IT.'
I ignored him and went out of the shop. Just before getting out of the door, I raised my middle finger at him and exited the shop without seeing his reaction.
I never thought Ollivander would behave like this. I guess I can't claim to know someone's character just by reading books or watching movies. This incident verified it.
