Chapter 22 - chapter :22

The accident in flying class was just a minor incident, and not many people paid it much attention, even at the time.

After all, even professional Quidditch players face accidents—and fatalities—every year, so it wasn't surprising that a few beginners would have some mishaps.

The gloomy mood caused by the accident lifted before lunch.

"Hey! Adam, want to watch the Quidditch team practice? They're testing out new tactics today!"

Stein burst into the dormitory and saw Adam writing something while petting his two kittens. Stein had a feeling Adam would turn him down.

As expected, without looking up, Adam replied, "No, you go ahead. I'm not that interested in Quidditch practice."

Watching a Quidditch match was one thing. Despite the poor game balance, the matches were thrilling, often with a fair share of violence mixed in. It's no wonder it was the most popular sport among wizards.

But practice? That was just repetitive ball catching and chasing Bludgers. Adam had attended once and wasn't interested in going again. If he had some spare time, he might consider it for a walk, but at the moment, he was too busy.

"Come on, Adam. I know you've already finished all your homework... What's this?" Stein hovered over Adam, noticing that the text on the parchment seemed to shift and move, making his head spin.

"It's a potions paper."

When his quill ran out of ink mid-sentence, Adam casually cast a refilling spell.

"Potions paper? That's not an assignment, so why are you writing it?"

"Remember when I asked Professor Snape a question after potions class two days ago? He told me that if I could prove my ability, I wouldn't have to repeat the basic potion operations I'd already mastered in class. Instead, I could tackle more advanced topics. Then he handed me *Most Potent Potions*."

Adam gestured to the book beside him.

The potion formulas in *Most Potent Potions* were far beyond a first-year's curriculum, but for Adam, they only posed a moderate challenge.

Though Adam suspected that Snape gave him the book to intimidate him, he believed that even if his paper wasn't spectacular, as long as he made a solid argument, Snape would allow him to brew different potions in class—after a bit of scolding, of course.

Still, Adam wanted to impress Snape and was determined to give it his best shot.

"I don't get you at all, you nerd," Stein said, disappointed. He had expected Adam to be exempt from homework, not swap one assignment for a more difficult one. He quickly moved away from the parchment.

"Well, Bernard and I are going to check it out."

"Alright, just be careful not to get hit by a Bludger."

No need to ask what he meant by that. It had happened before, though not in Hufflepuff.

Adam spent two more days perfecting his paper, reviewing and revising it three times before neatly copying the final draft onto parchment in elegant handwriting. Altogether, it measured four feet in length.

When Adam placed the stack of parchment on Professor Snape's desk, Snape remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.

"A longer paper does not necessarily make a better one, Mr. Robert."

"I know, Professor. I tried to keep it concise."

Adam shrugged. His paper used *Most Potent Potions* as a foundation, organizing his thoughts and understanding of advanced potion-making.

To be honest, writing the paper had deepened Adam's understanding of potions. He revised it multiple times because each time he reviewed it, he found room for improvement.

Snape picked up the paper with the intent of skimming it. He flipped the first page but, after reading a few lines, frowned and returned to the beginning, reading more carefully.

"...You may go. I will let you know once I've finished."

After reading the first paragraph, Snape set the paper down.

"Okay, thank you, Professor Snape."

By now, Professor Snape had become used to Adam's unusual manner. At first, Adam's different approach would make Snape scowl and avert his gaze, but now he could acknowledge it with a slight nod.

As Adam left Snape's office, he rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Maybe he could apply the same approach with other professors to advance his learning?

Although his progress in converting wizard spells into mage magic was slow due to gaps in his knowledge, Adam was learning spells at an impressive rate.

The Hogwarts faculty was top-notch, especially compared to the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Most other subject professors were among the best in their fields. Adam had already found a way to spend time with Professor Dumbledore on occasion by learning the Portkey charm, so why not benefit from other professors as well? Once he graduated, he wouldn't have such easy access to them.

So, on a sunny afternoon, Adam visited several professors, like someone shopping for discounted goods, and returned to his dorm with a stack of heavy books.

"Adam, did you raid the library?" Uther asked, surprised to see the pile of books as Adam entered the dormitory.

"I just got back from the library, but I didn't see you there."

"These aren't from the library."

Adam placed the books on his bedside table and neatly arranged them.

"They're from the professors."

"Which professors?" Uther asked, confused.

"Quite a few. This one's from Professor Stein, these two are from Professor Flitwick, and this one is from Professor Sprout."

"Wait... wait. Did the professors hold some kind of book fair? Why are they lending you books?"

"Because I find the class content a bit slow, so I'm expanding my studies."

Uther stared at Adam, as though struggling to understand what he was saying. Finally, he asked, "Did the professors actually agree to that?"

"In a way, yes. Stein and the others initially suggested I focus on the basics, but I managed to convince them..."

Adam blinked, deciding to skip the details of his persuasion tactics.

For example, turning a teacup into a crowned parrot in gazz office, or demonstrating a silent, wandless levitation charm for Professor Flitwick.

Professor Sprout had been the hardest to convince, but after Adam's persistent persuasion, she finally gave in, lending him a book after quizzing him and agreeing to let him care for the mandrakes in Greenhouse 3 on weekends.

"That's... a lot. Can you handle all that?"

Uther rubbed his temples, staring at the stack of books.

"It's fine, really. I've been studying on my own for a while now, and I still have time to hang out with you guys. Now that I have the professors' guidance, I'm actually learning more efficiently."

Noticing that Mark wasn't on the bed, Adam picked him up and gave him a little scratch.

"Effective learning makes me happy!"

Unlike the rote memorization from his previous life, magic was more like fitness—it was addictive. The constant feeling of self-improvement was truly captivating.

"...As long as you're happy."
