Probably because the life he had led since entering the school had been so comfortable, Adam had forgotten that he was in the safest place in the world.
"Troll—in the basement—I thought you should know—"
As Professor Quirrell collapsed to the ground with a dull "thud," the entire auditorium fell silent for a few moments before a deafening scream erupted.
Adam, who had been enjoying a sweet pumpkin pie, paused and set down his fork, falling into a contemplative silence.
"A troll?! Why would such a thing appear in Hogwarts?" Stein exclaimed.
At that moment, several loud noises attracted everyone's attention.
"Quiet!"
Professor Dumbledore used his wand to conjure fireworks, and then cast a Sonorous Charm. Once everyone's attention was on him, he spoke:
"Prefects, lead the students back to their dormitories immediately!"
"That's just a big troll. Any professor could easily handle it, right? Why cancel the Halloween feast over this?" Robert remarked, sounding a bit disappointed as they made their way back.
"The troll isn't the problem. The real issue is why it appeared in Hogwarts. Trolls don't sneak into places like this on their own. Someone must have brought it in," Uther said calmly, analyzing the situation.
"Whoever did it is really awful. I've been looking forward to this feast for a whole month, and I barely got a bite of that pumpkin pie!" Stein grumbled, covering his face in frustration.
"I was hoping to stop by the kitchens later to see if the house-elves could give me the leftover pies... Speaking of which, I wonder if they're packing up the food in the Great Hall?" Stein added with a sigh.
Unfortunately for him, Bruce quickly squashed any plans to stray from the group, even if it was just for a quick detour to the kitchen. Stein wasn't the only one with that idea.
"Sorry, everyone, but there's an emergency at the school. Professor Dumbledore assigned me to make sure none of you leave my sight—don't make it hard for me, alright?" Bruce said sincerely, clasping his hands together.
The disappointed students, unable to argue, reluctantly followed the prefects back to the common room. It was impossible to return to the dormitories with peace of mind after what had just happened. Everyone gathered in the common room, eager to discuss the event. A troll suddenly showing up at Hogwarts was highly unusual, and soon, wild speculations began to spread, each more alarming than the last.
One student even suggested that it might be part of a plot orchestrated by a dark wizard. Adam couldn't help but glance at the boy—the guess was surprisingly close to the truth.
Although not everyone took the theory seriously due to its outlandishness, the various speculations combined with the professors' reactions and the growing hunger from the interrupted feast created an atmosphere of unease.
"I've got an idea… Since the Hogwarts dinner was canceled, why don't we Hufflepuffs have our own Halloween feast?" Adam proposed, standing up.
"But… we're not allowed to go to the kitchen…" a senior student pointed out, looking between Bruce and Vivian for confirmation. Both nodded, indicating it was still off-limits.
"That's true, but in the spirit of Halloween, I happened to prepare some food in advance," Adam said with a smile. "It's mostly sweets, cookies, and some desserts like pumpkin pie, but at least it'll help ease our rumbling stomachs."
He looked at Bruce for approval. "If that's alright with you?"
"Absolutely!" Bruce agreed, patting his own stomach. "I don't think the professors will mind us having a small party in the common room."
"Fantastic! What are we waiting for?" A hungry Hufflepuff exclaimed, eyes gleaming. "Get the food out already—I'm ready to pay!"
The other students quickly agreed, their enthusiasm growing.
"Don't rush," Adam said, holding up his wand. "I still need to make a few adjustments first."
With everyone watching eagerly, Adam moved to the round table in the center of the common room. "Let's make a little more room here," he instructed.
"Leave it to me!" Vivian waved her wand, sending the flower pots on the table floating to the shelves. The table expanded, its surface growing several times larger.
"Thanks, Vivian. That should do it. I'll go fetch the food now," Adam said, hurrying toward the dormitory.
While waiting for Adam to return, the excited Hufflepuffs busied themselves by transforming the common room. They shifted the furniture, turned lampshades into pumpkin heads, and decorated the walls with Halloween-themed monsters.
By the time their work was done, a delicious pumpkin aroma filled the air.
Adam finally returned, and behind him floated an assortment of sweets and treats—candies spilling out of pumpkin-shaped containers, golden pumpkin pies, and cookies. Pumpkin juice squirted from bottles, and various pumpkin-shaped desserts hovered in the air, ready to land on the now-expanded tables.
"Put it over here," Cedric suggested, transforming a couch against the wall into an additional table. Several other senior students helped by transfiguring unused items into extra table space. Adam set the floating treats down, filling the tables completely.
"Adam, come on—give the word already! I'm starving," said one of the students, grabbing a plate of pumpkin pie. The sweet scent was irresistible.
"This time it's a buffet—no limits on variety or quantity. Just five silver Sickles per person, and you can eat to your heart's content," Adam announced.
Given the short notice, Adam had used magic to create most of the food, so it cost him nothing but the energy to cast the spells. The price was merely symbolic—a way to keep things orderly.
As soon as Adam finished speaking, the students took a moment to process the idea of a buffet, and then the room erupted in cheers.
"Long live Adam!"
Five silver Sickles for a buffet was an incredible deal—considering a single butterbeer cost two!
Adam set his bag in the corner as the cashier, allowing everyone to drop in their coins before digging in. After a brief rush back to the dormitory to fetch their money, the students eagerly queued up to pay. The moment the transactions were done, they swarmed the tables, filling their plates with the delicious food.
The first to arrive was the same senior who had grabbed the pumpkin pie earlier. He took a large bite and, with his mouth full, grinned with absolute contentment.
