This was not the first time that Adam was surprised by Mark's intuition, but once again, Adam found himself in awe.
Adam asked in disbelief, "Is this just a feeling? No clues?"
Mark shook his head. "No, it's just... an inexplicable feeling. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's usually right."
That's so accurate!
Adam looked at his classmates, who were deep in thought, unsure of what to say. He couldn't tell them that Voldemort was hiding on the back of Professor Quirrell's head. Thankfully, Mark's guess remained just that—a guess—allowing everyone's focus to shift back to the game. With Harry's broom out of control, the Slytherin team quickly capitalized, scoring 40 points.
"Looks like Slytherin is going to win this one," Cedric sighed.
"Are you rooting for Gryffindor?" Stein asked, curious.
"I don't care if Gryffindor wins. I just don't want Slytherin to win," Cedric replied. "No one in the school, except for Slytherin themselves, wants to see them take the Quidditch Cup—or the House Cup, for that matter."
Cedric glanced around, ensuring no Slytherins were nearby before continuing, "Their victories tarnish the honor of winning. And after a win, they act so arrogantly, it's like being punched in the face."
"It feels like Slytherin wins a lot," Uther remarked, watching the Slytherin captain grab the Quaffle again.
"The unscrupulous always have the advantage," Cedric said with a shrug, turning to leave. He didn't seem interested in staying for Slytherin's victory.
But just then, the crowd erupted into noise—this wasn't the sound of Slytherin winning. Cedric turned back, squeezing to the front of the stands to see what was happening. There, on the field, Harry Potter was kneeling on the ground, holding the Golden Snitch aloft.
Gryffindor had won!
Cedric was stunned. "What did I miss?!"
As they made their way back to the castle, Cedric wore a look of disbelief. "Harry just suddenly accelerated, probably saw the Snitch, and then dived straight to the ground," Stein recounted. "When he landed, he coughed up the Snitch, and that was it."
"To be honest, we didn't see the whole thing either," Adam added. "It all happened so fast."
Cedric sighed, "Well, at least you saw it. Can I have two pumpkin pies to soothe my broken heart?"
Adam sighed in defeat. "Come by the dorm later."
"Thanks!" Cedric patted Adam on the back and ran off. "See you after dinner!"
Despite the excitement of the Quidditch match, only a few students still remembered it by the time the second game rolled around. Christmas was quickly approaching, bringing with it a festive atmosphere at Hogwarts.
"Aren't any of you going home for the holidays?" Adam asked as he packed his luggage.
Uther shrugged. "My family's in Egypt. I can't afford a plane ticket just for a few days."
Stein sighed. "My parents are off stocking supplies at a dragon farm. There's no point in going home."
Mark remained silent for a moment before saying, "I don't want to go home."
Sensing the sensitive nature of Mark's response, the others wisely chose not to pry, instead turning their attention to Bernard.
"I want to see how wizards celebrate Christmas!" Bernard's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Adam had noticed Bernard's inquisitive nature before. He suspected that Bernard had even ventured into the Forbidden Section of the library on his own.
"Well, if no one's going home, maybe I should stay here too," Adam mused.
"No, no, no!" Stein waved dismissively. "Don't stay just for us. If your family is waiting for you, go home. We'll be fine."
"My family doesn't really celebrate Christmas. We observe the Chinese New Year," Adam explained. "Christmas is just another holiday for us. Besides, if I made some festive desserts—gingerbread men, candy canes, things like that—they'd be a hit."
Adam's eyes lit up at the idea. "We could make a lot of money!"
As soon as he thought of it, Adam picked up a quill and wrote a letter to his parents. A few days later, on the morning before Christmas, he received their reply along with a package.
"It's done!" Adam declared as he returned to the dorm, placing the letter and package on the table. "Not only did my parents agree, but they sent some ingredients too. They're so thoughtful!"
"What's inside?" his roommates asked, suddenly wide awake.
Adam opened the package, revealing various types of sweeteners—maple syrup, maltose, brown sugar, and osmanthus honey. His eyes sparkled when he saw the last item.
"And glutinous rice! My mom really thought of everything. I still have those red dates I brought earlier. Maybe I'll make Eight-Treasure Rice. I even have leftover bean paste from last time..."
The sound of his roommates eagerly swallowing echoed through the dorm.
"These ingredients are great, but isn't there only a small amount of each?" Stein asked, worried. "Will it be enough to sell?"
"Don't worry," Adam assured him. "With magic, it's plenty."
He began planning recipes in his head. After being interrupted by Halloween, he was determined to make this Christmas one to remember by sharing the wonders of Eastern desserts with all of Hogwarts.
