Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

NYY Company

"So, tell me, why are you so interested in her?"

Dion clasped his fingers and then looked at the handsome man with questions in his eyes. He was very intrigued as to why his boss wanted to know more about this female so much. The female is named Carole Albrecht.

"She is a married person. Have you lost your mind?" He asked again.

Even though Royce heard it, the only reply he made was a soft chuckle while looking at the photo in his hands. He still couldn't believe that he will get mesmerized by her beauty even though that's the first time they met in person.

Royce knew Aston Albrecht very well. Not only his rival in business but also his old college classmate or should he say ex- friend. He still can't believe that the two of them will one day compete in the real world. He thought that they would not meet again after what happened.

"Now you're laughing alone. Do you want me to set up psychiatric help for you?" Dion asked again, sighing hopelessly. He was ready to call the most professional psychologist in the country.

Royce put the photo of Carole down on the desk and grinned. "I haven't gone crazy yet, but I might." he gazed at Dion with a serious expression. "Who knows?"

Royce is always mischievous but it is new to Dion to see his boss getting this worked up for a female. Although he was linked a lot to different beautiful actresses, he never showed any interest in them. He was an international actor and yet no one catches his attention.

Dion rubbed his head in disappointment. "There are a lot of ladies in this world, why the heck would you want a married woman?" he asked, hopeless.

"I didn't say I like her," Royce denied. "She just took my interest. Besides, my nephew and niece like her so much." He leaned on his swivel chair and smiled.

Dion clicked his tongue. "Are you a child then? You're a grown up man." He said, completely surprised by Royce's answer.

It's not only the reason that Carole is a married woman, but also that her husband is Aston Albrecht. Their rival in business. If the public found out that Royce is interested in Carole, it will cause a twirl between them, and it's not a good idea.

A smirk escaped Royce's lips but as soon as he recalled Carole's crying face when they accidentally bumped, bitterness occupied his face.

"Something is not right," he mumbled.

"What do you mean, sweetie?"

Her mother's voice rang confused through her ears. Carole knew it wasn't a good idea to call and asked her mom if she could stay the night in their house.

"Your husband is right there. It's not right to sleep at your parents house without your husband's permission." Carla said with a straight face, scolding her daughter.

Carole sighed and pinched her nose with disappointment. For sure, her mother won't let her stay at their house because she favors Aston more than her daughter. Besides, Carla didn't want to embarrass her family since it was Aston's family who carried their falling business.

"Did you two have fought? What did you do again? I told you to not give your husband a headache. He is the future leader of the country's biggest business," Carla's upset voice made her daughter speechless.

Carole didn't know what to say. Carla hasn't even heard the whole story and yet she is already blaming Carole. She already knew that Carla would take the man's side, but she is expecting at least a question from her mother, a worried question about her.

"It's not like that, mom." Carole sighed, brushing her hair up as she turned her head outside the window of the guest room.

She wanted to explain everything to her mother, but it looks like Carla had no plan to listen to her. For Carla, her daughter was always the wrong one. She will favor Aston because it was his family who helped their business.

"I told you to cook for her and give him a nice massage, yes? Don't tell me you are also neglecting your wife duty?" Carla's voice sounded demanding.

Carole was speechless. It was not worth a shot. She wanted to breathe away from this house because she still can't forget what Aston said to her. However, the family whom she thought was always there for her back didn't even want to listen to her side.

"Nevermind, mom." Carole said. "I will just call you again,"

She ended the call without waiting for her mother's response. There is no point in telling her mom what happened. She threw her phone on her bed and rolled her body there. After minutes of gazing at the white ceiling of the guest room, she hugged her favorite pillow.

Carole felt alone again. Her husband is at work and accusing her of cheating with another man, while her one and only best friend was also busy. There are no more people whom she knew she could ask for help or at least someone to talk to.

Her life is very boring. She grew up alone and only with Natalie's company. She didn't even want to leave their house when she was in her teens eather. It was Natalie who taught her how the real or outside world looks like.

Without Natalie by her side, she is a boring person. How she wished she had a sibling. She thought that it would be much happier if Natalie is her true sibling or twin.

Thinking of this, Carole's eyes slowly blinked, making her surroundings blurry. A lot of things happened today and she was not prepared for all of it. Her eyes started to feel heavy. Her arms grabbed her favorite pillow closer to her face.

Minutes passed and Carole finally fell asleep. Her body gave up and sunk into the dreamland to relax her mind. A good time to forget the awful scenarios that happened today.
