I stared at the passing Trees and mountains through the window. Thinking about how hard the examination will be.
It's been an entire month later, I had a pretty strict schedule: sleep early, wake up, eat, train for the rest of the day, and repeat. On the days where I'm free I'm usually hanging out with Ayjin or completing quests. Currently I'm at level ten my stats have increased dramatically; I had spent the majority of the points on Strength, then spent it on Speed. Finally dividing the remaining points on Defense and Mana. The reason I largely neglected Defense is because being faster I can dodge easily, thus, won't need too much on Defense.
Right now I was on the train that's supposed to take me to Arcane Academy, since Lucian was a third year she had to go first. So right now I was alone in the compartment.
It was pretty boring to say the least, there wasn't anything interesting. Really the entertainment I have is some highschool based manga that has a really hard math equation in it, but, at least the food here was really delicious.
I grab another cookie from the plate next to me eating it, yummy! Next to it was my bag.
The door slid open as a girl walked in looking particularly displeased for some reason. Huh, who was she?
The girl in question was a few centimeters shorter than me, having a petite body type. She had vibrant blond hair, shining emerald eyes, and white skin tone. She was wearing a scarf, having a white long sleeve shirt that had a giant black cross on it with a silver outline. She has a black skirt and black stockings with black boots. Around her waist was a sheathed silver rapier.
I don't know why but she has this dignified air around her, perfectly standing up straight, with some makeup on her.
Seemingly her mood further worsened when she saw me, "Oh great I'm with a commoner; just my luck," She sat down crossing her arms.
What the hell kinda attitude is that!
"You better be grateful that a beautiful and noble girl like me is staying here."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her arrogant; what a rude lady.
She sat down looking all grumpy, she stared at the passing scenery; probably to not be bored.
I continued to read the manga then I noticed something. Above her head were floating transparent numbers; it was her level.
Ever since I got the Jacket of Avalon I was able to read people's levels, basically how strong they are. Most people I saw tended to be level ten to fifteen and Lucian's level was a whooping two-hundred, which was surprising. She's that strong. This girl was level eighty!
I gulped and buried my head into the manga I was reading. Flipping the pages until I came across one page where it featured a math equation. Why the hell does this romcom manga have this complicated math problem!
I put down the manga on the seat looking closely to solve it, sure it wasn't technically necessary to solve this but dammit my curiosity got the best of me. I'm only mediocre at math but I think I can solve it.
Let's see transposing this term, using the FOIL method . . . Uh maybe multiply this? Wait what does this mean? Crap this doesn't feel right . .
"The answer is X equals one-hundred-forty, that's the answer."
Huh? Looking up I saw her taking a glimpse at the equation, really that's the answer?
She must've read my face because she explained, "See transposing that term, multiply this number by this, and plus added these numbers and there."
"Oh I see!"
"It's really that simple since I'm a noble," She puffed her chest in pride.
"Well ok? Then how about this one?" I showed her the previous math equation. She stared at it closely for a couple of minutes, I'd imagine the cogs in her ear turning as she came up with an answer.
"Three-hundred-forty, that's the answer."
"I'm impressed, uh, what's your name?" Crap I don't know her name.
"Are you pulling my leg here?" She crosses her arms, for some reason she didn't believe me? What, is she famous or something?
"Uh no? I really don't know your name Ms?"
"I can't believe it, have you been hiding under a rock for your whole life or are you a dumbass?"
"Hey, you don't have to be rude about it!"
"You really don't know?" She asked exasperated.
"Yes I don't know!" Jeez what's her deal? She must've been some crazy big shot or famous person.
"Well then allow me to introduce yourself, I am Hana Von Yue from the glamorous and prestigious Von Yue Family!" She stood up and bowed to me. Wait, Von Yue family? I swear I heard that somewhere before, eh probably not important.
"The name is Jackson Maverick," I gave her a handshake, weirdly she looked at it seemingly confused about what to do.
"Eh? Please tell me you do know what a handshake is right?" No way people in this world have no idea what a handshake is.
"No it's not that, you do know it's customary for someone to bow when introducing himself?"
"Oh really! Crap! Sorry for being rude," I bowed too.
"It's fine really. So Maverick, what's your Arcana?" Hana asked.
"Well I'm a Mana Arbiter, what about you?" For now since the System can't really be considered any of the Arcana Type I'll pretend to be a Mana Arbiter since Critical Strike can be considered a Mana Arbiter ability.
"Really now, for me I'm a Hybrid! Of Weapons Bearer and Elementalist!" She puffed her chest in pride.
Oh so this is a Hybrid huh? I was a little curious about these Hybrids though before I could ask any questions there was a knock at the door. Huh, who was that?
The door slid open to reveal another person.
A slight tan in skin tone he had a black, long black wavy hair; piercing steel grey eyes. He was wearing this expensive looking white suit and pants, with golden trimming on the edge. He had this arrogant smirk on his face.
"Ah! There you are my fiance!" He said that part particularly loud; probably people in the other compartment had heard him say that.
In the corner of my eye I saw Hana sneered at his presence.
I don't know but I have a bad feeling about him; not helping was how arrogant and prideful he was acting. I looked up to see his level, oh my god! Level eighty-nine! He's just eleven levels away from being one-hundred! I tried to scoot myself as far from him as I could.
Doing so had gotten his attention, oh crap! "Look at yourself Hana, sitting near a Commoner. Such disgrace," His Arrogant slightly dampened when seeing me.
"Avoure I'd rather eat shit, than to spend a second looking at your face." Hana glared daggers at him.
This didn't faze this guy, Avoure, he simply smirked at Hana, "Hana that's no such way a wife should treat her husband."
He walked up to Hana cupping her face with his hand, their face inches apart.
Should I be here watching this? This was getting uncomfortable should I just leave or . . .
I how pained Hana's face looked, it's clear as day she doesn't want this, she hates him yet why was she not pushing him away or something, I have to step in.
"Hey buddy she doesn't want any of this so stop it." I place a hand on his shoulder.
I saw both of their reactions. Hana was surprised to see me defending her, a faint blush could be seen; while with Avoure a flash of anger before I was sent flying through the wall!
A sword being unsheathed.
I landed the compartment behind mine. The people in the compartment were screaming and they immediately left, "Damn that hurts!" Gripping my bleeding face thankfully still intact! If I hadn't Reinforced my head with Mana, I'm sure it would have exploded!
"What was that for you, fucking psychopath!" I shouted.
"Impressive, a lowly commoner survived that punch. Looks like I'll have to try harder," His previous arrogant expression returned.
"Crap!" I activated Critical Strike!
[10x Strength]
The entire compartment was lit by the azure flames of Critical Strike, coating the entire room in a blue hue.
Glaring daggers at Avoure.
"Oh? The little shit has some fire in him?" Avoure gave me a shit-eating grin.
But before anything could happen Hana step in front of me. Blocking Avoure's view of him; seeing this action seemingly didn't make him happy. A small frown was on his face.
"My darling, what on Gaiea are you doing?"
"Avoure you fool, stop this at once. You're causing a scene." She gave him a cold stare, that even gave me goosebumps. It was true, the door was wide open - loads of people were staring at us wide eyes, whispering to one another. Now that Hana addressed them, they immediately fled the scene going back to their respectives compartment.
"You think a bunch of nosey commoners will stop me?"
"No, but he will."
"What?"
"What in the blazes is going on in here!" A gruff sounding man shouted down the hall, then a man came through the door. A middle aged looking man wearing a white fancy uniform.
"You kids stop whatever you're doing! It's disturbing the other shit heads here." The man said giving a big ol' stink eye to everyone - including me? Hey, he started it!
"Hm, I'll back off for now. Be warned, filthy Commoner, you're dead . . . " That asshole said before leaving the compartment.
I heard Hana briefly sigh in relief while that middle aged man left while muttering how kids are the worst.
I deactivated Critical Strike, the room returning to its normal colors now.
Well that's good news I guess. Thankfully there wasn't a full blown fight I'd lost instantly, that guy was fucking level eighty-nine! But, the bad news is I pissed off that level eighty-nine! Great, I'm so dead . . .
"Hey I'm sorry dragging you into this," Hana said to me.
"No worries, it's fine," I waved her concern off.
"No it's not! Avoure comes from a very influential family he could make your life worse!"
Well shit . . . Uh . "It'll be fine, just gonna hope for the best hehehe . . . "
"But the guy was being really creepy to you, I had to step in," I added.
"Even still I'm sorry, and for being rude earlier," She bowed her head.
"Fine apology accepted. Hey Hana wanna go to another compartment?" I looked around the ruined compartment.
"I agree."

We got out of the train to a platform. It was a typical train platform you'd see in media: It had a roof with stone pillars supporting it, no walls except some fences, rows of plastic chairs you can sit on.
The most interesting thing about this place wasn't the platform itself, but around it. Were an entire forest of those blue Mana trees back in the capital. All of them glowing this ethereal blue while at day.
"We're finally here! The most prestigious school in all of the lands!" Hana said in excitement. Seeing her act this way was certainly amusing.
"Hey Hana, no need to freak out, it's just a platform."
A crowd of students got off the train; It was tightly packed. All of the students seem to be nobility of sorts, all of them wearing this air of pride, similar to Avoure, but to a lesser degree.
"Stick to me close, don't wanna get lost in this," Hana said.
"Yeah."
Eventually we walked to the side, there were less people so it wasn't totally crowded and claustrophobic.
At the very last cart of the train Endian was coming out from it, it wasn't a whole lot. Maybe a few dozen or so, the clothes they were wearing weren't well clean or in a good condition, it was all casual clothes and some were ripped. I spotted a particularly huge Endians: He was tan skin color; super muscular, like his body was crafted by the gods themselves. He wasn't even wearing anything to cover it up, just a loose faded red jacket with black pants; his animal traits were two giant bull horns on his head curving upward; he has this feral smile on his face. This guy exudes barbarian vibes for me.
An interesting thing I saw while the humans carried luggage or bags like me, they were carrying wrapped clothes acting as bags.
The entire crowd was made up of exclusively Endians - I didn't see a human in the crowd at all.
Now that I think about it even on the cart I was in I hadn't seen any Endians at all.
Was that cart exclusively for Endian only?
When the Endians got out I heard the people whispering to each other.
"Ew! Those animals!"
"What are those animals fuckers doing here?"
"I thought Arcane Academy was for nobles?"
What a load of pricks, everywhere I looked it seemed like everyone was confused by the Endians presence.
"That's strange . . . . " I heard Hana mumbling to herself - wait, don't tell me!
"Why so?" I asked her.
"Aside from the fact their dangerous people . . . "
What!
"Endians shouldn't be here, as only nobility can attend Arcane Academy," Said Hana.
My opinion of Hana just got lowered by a whole lot, but there is something interesting about what she said, for now I'll ignore how racist hana is. "What do you mean by that?"
"Well throughout the history of Arcane Academy only those of nobility are able to attend here, so them being here is strange. Hey Maverick, please stick close to me; they could be dangerous."
"I doubt they could be that dangerous," I shook my head - disappointed Hana was acting like this.
"Hello all first years and good afternoon to you all," A voice said, in the middle of the platform was a stunning looking woman: she had a pretty gorgeous figure, a tan skin tone, long silky smooth Black hair, and was wearing fancy white clothing.
"Oh my god it's her!" Hana was amazed by her appearance, her eyes widened with stars in them. I heard a round of people gasping at the sight of her, people whispering about her.
"Is she famous or something?"
"Were you living under a rock for your whole life?! She's Amelia Glacier! The four time winner of the Aurora Dragon Tournament!"
"Uh, is it impressive?"
Hana slaps her face.
"Welcome to the esteemed Arcane Academy, I am the head deputy Amalia Glacier. I'm excited seeing all these new faces." Amelia said, she beamed at the sight of us, and must be really excited to teach the rest of us.
"Excuse me oh gracious madam." I heard a very familiar pompous asshole voice; it was Avoure. He had disgusted expression on him, like he had seen the most vile thing possible. I have an idea what it is that disgust him.
"Yes Sir Vin Mae?" Amelia looked at him.
"Why are those animals here with us?" He pointed at the crowd of Endians. Seeing this action they shouted in protest, all of them looked angry.
"Hey we have the right to be here!"
"We paid for this!"
"Please don't kick us out . . . "
Next to me Hana said, "Though I'm sure Amelia has reason, I can't help but feel confused as to why dangerous people like them are here."
God dammit Hana! I'll definitely pull her to the side next time to talk things out and straighten her behavior towards them, maybe I can convince her all of them aren't bad people.
"Now I'm sure some of you are confused as to why non-noble people are here. Traditionally in its entire history only those of nobility can join here, but we lived in a brand new age of peace and diversity. In order to promote that I have created a program in which people of all backgrounds, regardless of who they are, can join Arcane Academy." Amelia proudly declared puffing her chest in pride.
I could see Avoure didn't like that one bit.
"I can't help but feel that's a naive action to take." Hana said.
"Why so? I think it's a great thing to do." I said.
"On paper it's a good idea, but she doesn't factor in how their parents would react."
"What do you mean?" I said.
"Though the government does fund the school it's not much, so primarily the way the academy gets its funding is by the students' parents; paying for the materials, application fee, and a whole other stuff. This new program would probably scare those old geezers and either pull the students or next year there won't be that many students coming here." Hana explained.
I nodded, "Maybe the school can set up a donation?" I offered a possible solution.
"I doubt It would even cover half of the school's expenses," Hana shook her head.
"Come now students follow me, tomorrow will be the entrance ceremony, for now I'll lead you all to the dorms." Amelia walked and soon everyone followed her. There was a clear divide between the humans and the Endiens; as both parties largely stuck together.
We traveled through the thick Mana forest, I was amazed by its beauty and wonder. Every leaf glowing a vibrant blue, thousands of small blue particles rising from the trees to disappear in the air and repeat the cycle. Honestly I could spend hours in this forest just watching it.
"Impressed?" Next to me Hana was giving me a cheeky grin.
"It's amazing!"
"I agree it's beautiful, this forest is akin to a rose. On the outside it's beautiful, but the deeper you travel it reveals its dangerous nature."
"Eh, what do you mean?" I asked curiously
"Since the abundance of Mana here, demons will likely spawn here. Best not to be deep in the forest."
After an hour of walking we made it to the academy. It was a giant stone castle and behind it were two other castles, albeit smaller than the main castle.
On the doors steps of the entrance there was a man waiting for us. He was a balding man with a white skin tone, green eyes, and wearing a black formal suit. He had this wise aura around him. Seeing us his eyes brighten. "Welcome to Arcane Academy! I am your headmaster Ivon Van Jo." The man bowed to us.
"I see potential in all of you, especially you two." The man pointed at Hana and Avoure.
"It's an honor to have a Vin Mae and Von Yue attend this school year, I believe this year will be the best the academy has to offer," The Ivon laughed in pride, he went over to Avoure shaking his hand then went to Hana shaking her hand.
"I'm grateful to be here," Hana said, smiling at the Headmaster.
"Yes, now follow me, all boy students. I'll show you to the male dormitory."
"Please form a line and then follow me, I'll show you to the female Dormitory," All the girls lined up.
Before she lined up Hana said, "Well see you later Maverick." She waved at me before going to the line.
See you later? She'll see me later? No one back in my world really did that to me, a warm fuzzy feeling bloomed in my chest.
"Yeah, I'll see you later too," I whispered before following the Headmaster and the others.
We walk through a courtyard filled with all kinds of beautiful flowers and decorations. The Headmaster had ignored the rest of us, instead focusing all of his attention to Avoure, he kept praising him every chance he got.
The guys had split into their own little group, not really interacting with anyone but their friends. That only leaves me with no friends here to talk to. Eh, it's fine I'm used to this.
We kept walking until we made it to the boys Dormitory. It was certainly big, though unlike the rest of the school the building was fairly modern looking. It was huge with maybe twenty floors, the concrete was painted In orange with red highlights, the building was an L-shaped and the entrance was at the feet of it.
"Now if any of you have questions you'd like to ask, don't be afraid to ask me," The Headmaster gave us our keys to our room.
The Headmaster walked over to the buff-huge Endian I saw a while ago. Ivo gave him the keys, but the Endians rejected it.
"Excuse me what?" Ivon said, flabbergasted.
"Heh! I don't need some keys, I can live here!" He pointed at some tree. He prefers living underneath a tree? What an interesting choice . . .
"Mr Silk! That's barbaric and highly shameful! You shall have your own room."
"No," That guy walked to the tree, laying on the grass and closing his eyes . . . . Is he seriously asleep!?
All around me the students tried to hold back their laughter, but failed miserably. Even I was holding my own laughter at this absurd scene.
"Don't mind you Headmaster, you should know all these Animal freaks, who have no common sense and are no better than wild animals," Avoure smirks. Fucking prick.
"You're right Mr Vin Mae, I shouldn't waste my precious time with animals. I'm be going now," The Headmaster going back to his office, gee even he's damn racist.
I was the first one to enter, before I had entered the building in the corner of my eye I saw Avoure giving me a sinister looking smirk. Gotta get out of here fast!
Thankfully next to the entrance were two sets of staircases. I climb as fast as I can - I didn't really want to have a confrontation with him.
Eventually I reached the right floor. Walking through the marble hallway, the walls were painted white with golden flowers pattern on it. The walls also had several minimalist art that had golden frames hanging. I'm not really an expert on art, but even I could tell these things are probably in the millions.
I found the right door, twenty-four. I went inside making sure to lock the door in case Avoure tried anything funny on me.
It was a simple room, it had a: kitchen, air conditioning, a large comfy looking bed, a bathroom, and a balcony. The walls were the same as the hallway. Opposite to the bed attached to the wall was a flat screen tv.
I put my bag on the table and landed face first on the bed. Closing my eyes.
Tomorrow will be my first day in Arcane Academy.
