Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Delenor sat in the meeting room, alongside other members of the rulling council in the rebellion. They anticipated Maurice who had something big to show them. She could hear fingers tapping the round table and murmurs from the anxious councilors.

Why make it seem like it's something big when you just want to introduce one of their enemies to them, she thought and puffed.

Why puff, she questioned herself. The place was warm, and back there, the liveliness of this place, how could they manage this in less than a year?

She glanced at the others who whispered amongst themselves. Too caught up on whatever they discussed to note her presence. She left her seat and looked out one of the windows in the round room.

In a short while Maurice entered the room. Delenor slid back onto her seat. Maurice did not take a seat and the others turned to him as he stood beside Delenor.

"Good day colleagues," he said and leaned on the table. "We've been working on some plans to make a dent in the 'Family' by taking out one of their primary children."

The others responded with slow nods as he continued, "Well as you all know there has always been a setback, getting inside their stations. But I have come up with a remedy to that problem."

Oh come on, he wants me to pretend to be a 'Child'.

He gestured to Delenor. He tapped her shoulder and urged her to stand. Each council member turned to look at her. Delenor hesitantly held her nose mask. Maurice gave a slow nods.

Delenor pulled down her mask.

The councilors gasped at the sight of her face,

"Maurice, what is this?" One of theen asked.

Another female councilor asked, "Is she even really here?"

"Everyone please calm down, you have to trust me on this one," Maurice said, but the others ignored him and the murmurs continued.

An older man amongst them, who had been silent got up, "Alright everyone be silent," the councilors obeyed and turned their attention to him. "Let the commander have a chance to explain his actions. You claim she is the enemy, so at least show her our strength, not our frenzied nature," she turned to Maurice. "Commander although I'm not so sure about what you were thinking bringing an enemy into our community, I hope you would be able to convince me with your intentions."

The old man sat down, giving Maurice a chance to speak.

"Thank you very much," Maurice said. "Well my team and I have been following her and it turned out she'd been hunted by the 'Family' since the great war. We even rescued her from an attempt to capture her."

"With her in the plan, we have someone who'd have free access to their stations, that is someone who can sneak us in and out of our target building," Maurice leaned on the table again and glanced at the council.

Delenor rolled her eyes,

As expected, he'll really make me play 'Child'.

The councilors responded with silence as they contemplated on what to do after what Maurice said.

"You all have trustede since the creation of the rebellion, and I need you to trust me once again," Maurice said. "You all know I have the best interest of the rebellion at hear–"

A loud thump from outside interrupted Maurice. All eyes turned to the windows. Delenor ran and looked out the window. She gasped as explosions rocked buildings, and 'Family' security stormed the city outside. The former refugees ran into a frenzy in the wake of the raid. Delenor turned back to the councilors who stared at her. Her heartbeat rate quickened,

No no, don't do this.

"Maurice," a male councilor said. "Now we have seen the workings of this whore."

They converged at Delenor. She couldn't walk backwards lest she fall of the window behind her. She looked out once again and noted they were four floors up.

Wouldn't survive a fall this high.

"I didn't do anything," Delenor spoke up.

"Then who did?" Another council member asked.

Delenor noted Maurice's disappointment. He pulled out a blaster and aimed at her, charging the weapon. But a cold voice came from behind the councilors.

"Thank you very much, Delenor."

This anonymous person grabbed their attention and they turned to look at him.

"I guess it's about time we crushed the rebellion don't you think,"

Blood red cloaks…

The figure took off his hood,

Prim hair…

Delenor's eyes widened as she noted his appearance.

"Vodtak," she whispered.
