Rohan was bewildered by the scene he faced as he shut the door behind him. The room they had just come into was quite odd, Rohan could tell from merely looking that the room was over ten feet tall and had different insects crawling around inside a transparent glass tank that hung from the ceiling. The insects seemed to be radiating a glow that illuminated the entire room.
The room had different partitions that were separated using curtains that hung over rails. Annie walked down to the far end with Rohan trailing behind her. This was all new to Rohan. He now had to adapt to this new world he found himself in.
"You must be the owner of this beast?" A nurse asked as Annie arrived with Rohan at the table where Quad was lying. The attire worn by the nurse was odd as she wore an all-black gown, bearing a crest of the cross and a snake on the back. Similar gowns were worn by all the nurses present in the room. "I'll be done with him soon." The nurse said as she walked over to a counter to get a glass.
She soon came back with a glass of water in her hands, dropping the glass on the table, she began to work.
A purple glow enveloped her palms as she gained control of the water in the glass. With little effort, she was able to bring out the water from the glass as she applied it to Quad's injury. The water turned purple as the injury began to heal almost immediately.
"Will I be able to do that?" Rohan asked Annie who was observing the procedure taken to heal.
"Maybe, I don't know." She replied. "It all depends on the kind of system you have, she has a healer system which is why she can do that," Annie said, pointing at the nurse who was busy tending to Rohan's beast companion.
"When do I get to know my system?" Rohan asked with excitement written all over his face. "What types of systems could I get?" Rohan continued.
"He's all fixed." The nurse was done tending to Rohan's beast companion and now returning the glass cup to the table.
"Another patient is here." A nurse said rolling in a stretcher, on it laid Caperon and his beast companion Shinro who was badly hurt.
"Bring them over, I'm free now." The nurse said, calling on the nurse pushing the stretcher.
"You! Noob! Just wait for me to heal, I'll come for my revenge." Caperon said screaming as he was pushed past Rohan and Annie.
"Let's get going Rohan," Annie said, pulling Rohan with her. Rohan had used the screen to collect back Quad into his inventory.
The glass door pushed in with an officer coming in first before a man dressed in an armored suit walked in. He seemed to be someone of high ranking to be escorted this way.
'Who was he.' Rohan thought as he approached him.
The Captain walked past Rohan who was fixed at his position, keenly observing who had just walked past him.
"You must be one of the recruits? Welcome to the academy." The Captain said, stopping in his tracks to give Rohan a firm handshake. "Do I know you?" The Captain asked.
"Am his guardian," Annie said she didn't think revealing Rohan's real identity to the Captain was a good idea.
"I see, take care of him well. We wouldn't want our assets to be treated badly." The Captain said before walking away with his escorts.
As soon as Annie and Rohan arrived outside the room, Rohan was quick to ask. "Was that the Captain? He looks different from what I last remembered."
"This world works differently not all of us have the opportunity of having a new face like you and the Captain or a few others out there," Annie answered. "We only take what we are offered and make do with."
The conversation ended almost as it started. "Where do you want to see next?" Annie asked as she led Rohan through the hallway.
"Let's see some action, it's getting boring for me."
Rohan followed Annie as they went to the tryout arena.
THE TRYOUT ARENA.
"Now ladies and gentlemen, we are happy to reveal our contenders for the next set of recruits that will be transferred to the academy for better advancement." A voice came through the speakers that hung from around the arena. The arena was neatly packed with indigents who came to do battle. If they were able to pass through the trials set up against them they would then be accepted into the academy as junior recruits to train their systems and maybe graduate from being an indigent into an elite denizen. The Captain still classified the people into different ranks making the indigents the lowest.
"From the left we have Uno, he boasts of his speed system. Being the best of his rank holding most wins against any contender today." A thin boy walks out from the left corner, from his size he could easily be fourteen and from the way he moved, he didn't seem to have good control over his system.
"And from my right we have Gru, he is the first contender coming from outside this region. A very rare guest today, has multiple systems both unique to the user. The healer and strength system." A boy walked out from the right corner, he looked too small compared to the first contender.
Rohan's screen appeared before him as if by command, it displayed the details of both contenders.
Name, Fraser, age, thirteen years three hundred and six days. System, Speed, level, one.
Name, Grauncho, age, ten years fifty-nine days, system, healer, level one, strength, level one, perception, level, two.
"That kid there has three systems," Rohan said to Annie as he pointed out to Gru.
"And how is that possible, only people with the master system can possess more than two systems, also the referee called out only two systems so why the judgment, Rohan?"
"And now proceeding to the rule of the battle." The referees voice came again from the speakers. "The first to score five successful hits proceeds to the next round, only streak hits can be counted. Let the battle begin."
