<[Parcasuality: This is a word you'll see a lot in the Destiny lore community. The official definition for it is "An intervention in reality from outside, parallel to causality". To further simplify it, it's basically anything that defies the laws of physics with no logical explanation.
There's more to it, however. Not only does it allow the user to defy the laws of physics, but they aren't beholden to ANY laws besides their own, regardless if they are physical or supernatural, which gives Guardians their reality-warping resistance, and ability to alter reality.
Paracasuality is the basis for all Guardian abilities, be they from Light or the Darkness.
<[Ontology: Both the Light and Darkness can interact with Ontology. Ontology refers to the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being and existence.
Put simply, this means that Guardians can manipulate existence itself. They can will things into existence and erase things from existence with their powers.
Note: Ontology is not intrinsically related to paracasulaity, but becuase altering the existence of a person/thing is so difficult within the laws of physics, Ontological abilities are usually paracasual.
<[The Light: The Light is a paracasual force that has existed since the dawn of time and space. It is fundamentally driven to increase the complexity and diversity of entities within the universe, in particular encouraging the growth of new forms of life.
The Light also allows for the manipulation of the fundamental fundamental forces of the physical universe; which are electromagnetism, gravity, both weak and strong nuclear forces. (Arc, Solar, Void) and etc...
<[The Darkness: Like the Light the Darkness is a cosmic paracasual force that has existed since before time and space.
Similarly to the Light, it manifests in a variety of aspects, such as [Stasis] and [Strand].
While Light encompasses the physical universe, Darkness allows the manipulation of the metaphysical. Concepts like consciousness and force of will can be made manifest by the power of the Darkness.
<[Prismatic: A power only recently discovered by Guardians, Prismatic is the ability to combine Light and Dark to use both in tandem. Combine these powers, they enter a state known as "Transcendence"
<[Supers: Supers are the pinnacle of a Guardian's paracasual abilities, often taking the form of large AOE attacks such as [Nova Bomb{Warlock}] or [Thundercrash{Titan}].
Or a powerful weapon such as [Twilight Arsenal{Titan}] or [Golden Gun{Hunter}] that can inflict devastating damage on a single target or group of enemies.
<[Guardian Weapons: When a Guardian wields a weapon, it is no longer an ordinary weapon. As previously explained, a Guardians Light allows them to alter reality, and this power extends to the weapon they use.
For example, Guardians can turn a simple rifle into a weapon capable of harming godlike entities. This is why just three Guardians can dispatch powerful enemies like Strike and Dungeon bosses so easily.
<[Immortality: Because the Light defies the laws of physics, naturally this includes the laws of thermodynamics and entropy. The defiance of these laws is what grants Guardians immortality.
Guardians also have different types of immortality which include
<[Physical Strenght: The strength of Guardians can fluctuate. A quote from a writer at Bungie reads "The paracasual nature of Light means that everything a Guardian does is a little slippery-It's influenced by a set of rules outside normal physics. So you might get shit like a Titan lifting impossible weight when really motivated"
This quote suggests that there is no concrete upper limit to a Guardian's physical strength, but it can fluctuate based on the urgency of the situation.
At base, however, Guardians have an invisible aura of Light around them at all times that has the ability to "retcon" damage up to a certain threshold.
For Example: A Vex Minotaur's Torch Hammers fire explosive lobs of strange matter that causes particle decay.
A Guardian's passive aura will protect them from at least three direct hits before breaking. This means their actual body will take no damage from anything until the aura reaches its limit.
Then there are active defenses a Guardian can use. A couple of examples are [Void Overshield] which is made of distilled time that will stop objects from touching them, or [Woven Mail], which are strings made of reality itself woven into a protective armor.
There are many other types of defenses a Guardian can create but this is the examples ill give for now.
