Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Miscalculation

The door of a small dark room on the second floor suddenly opened, and three people rushed out, raising their crossbows and shooting at Robb in front of the hall.

Robb's guards had been escorting Robb out as soon as the big drum landed, but they were only paying attention to the Frey family in the hall and didn't pay attention to the second floor.

Poof! A crossbow arrow missed Robb, but hit the back of Talisa, who was running away with Robb holding her hand.

"No! Theresa!" Robb noticed that Theresa, who was holding his hand, was acting strangely. He then realized that she had been shot by an arrow and was about to put her to the ground.

"Your Majesty, we must go. The Freys will rush in soon." A guard said to Robb anxiously.

Robb also knew that now was not the time to check on the injuries, so he could only drag Talisa out with the guards.

The crossbowman on the second floor was killed by Blackfish and another noble after only one arrow. By this time, the hall was in chaos.

When Blackfish dropped the bass drum, Catelyn's guard stabbed Roose in the back with a dagger, but unfortunately he dodged it by leaning sideways and the stab did not hit the vital part. At this time, the two were fighting with daggers.

Caitlyn also saw Theresa who was shot by a crossbow arrow. She was about to run over when she suddenly heard a scream beside her. Her guard was stabbed in the eye by Luce and was wailing in pain.

Catelyn hated Roose, the Northern vassal who betrayed them, so she picked up the meat cutting knife on the table and stabbed it into the back of the proud Roose.

But the meat cleaver was only inserted a quarter of the way in when it was blocked by the soft armor. Luce felt a stabbing pain in his back and when he turned around, he saw Caitlin holding up the knife and trying to stab him again.

Just as he was about to strike back with the dagger, he felt a pain in his throat and blood gushed out. He covered his neck and breathed hard but to no avail.

He turned his head with difficulty and met Black Fish's cruel eyes. He opened his mouth and fell down unwillingly.

After killing Roose, Blackfish reunited with Catelyn and Robb. Looking at the dead Talisa and the dull-eyed Robb, he was helpless and could only carry Talisa and hug Robb as they rushed out.

Walder had not expected that his well-planned strategy would turn out to be like this. Looking at Robb who was about to escape through the gate, he ordered his two guards to chase and kill them.

If Robb cannot be killed today, their Frey family will be in danger of destruction. He doesn't think that the old fox Tywin will fulfill the reward he promised him if he fails to kill Robb.

Before Robb and his companions rushed out of the gate, a group of soldiers came in from outside the gate. They were attacked from both sides, and the guards could only surround Robb, Catelyn and the other two to fight against the enemy.

Robb slowly recovered from his trance at this time, stroked Talisa's cold cheek, took the sword handed over by the guard, shouted and rushed forward.

His wife and children lost their lives due to his carelessness. He hated himself for not listening to his mother's pleading and only cared about regaining his lost honor. Now he just wanted to kill all the enemies who stood in his way.

Although they fought hard, the enemies increased in number, and even Catelyn joined the battle. Seeing more and more enemies gathering, Catelyn gradually became desperate. She didn't expect that she would end up being buried here with Robb.

Tap, tap, tap!

The sound of horse hooves came from a distance, and the two parties who were fighting stopped what they were doing and distanced themselves.

"It's our people. We saw a man riding a horse." Robb said to Catelyn and others.

Hundreds of cavalrymen quickly rushed over, swung their swords and slashed at the Frey soldiers surrounding Robb and his men, then pulled Robb and other surviving nobles onto their horses and rushed out of the city.

Frey soldiers kept coming towards them along the way, but were blocked by the outer personnel.

The Northern army was defending the city gate, and only after Robb and his men rushed out did they slowly retreat and withdraw from the Twins.

The cavalry rushed towards Riverrun as soon as they left the city gate, and the infantry stayed behind to cover their retreat.

There were constant pursuers along the way, and the first cavalry that escorted Robb out of the Twins was almost killed.

A day later, the cavalry team was fortunate enough to encounter patrolling soldiers from Riverrun, and they were able to change horses and return to Riverrun.

The Northern nobles were shocked to see Robb and a dozen other people who went to the wedding returning covered in blood. After learning the reason, they never thought that Walder would dare to murder a guest at the wedding.

After returning to Riverrun, Robb immediately ordered his men to arrest all of Roose's men and await punishment. Only then did he learn that more than 300 people under Roose had found excuses to leave Riverrun a few hours ago and their whereabouts were unknown. Robb then realized that Roose had already arranged a retreat for his men.

Only a dozen nobles who attended the wedding banquet escaped. Robb ordered all the troops to retreat to Riverrun and strengthen the defense. Riverrun was surrounded by water on three sides, making it easy to defend but difficult to attack. Even if the Twins and Tywin joined forces to besiege it, it would be extremely difficult to take it down.

After arranging the defense of the city, Robb held his wife Talisa's cold body for a long time and refused to let go, feeling extremely remorseful.

...

On the banks of the Green Fork, the Hound and Arya rode together and slowly moved forward. Arya looked in the direction of the Twins and was about to cry.

Last night she had planned to sneak into the wedding hall to look for her mother and brother, but before she could get in she saw the Freys fighting with the North.

She saw with her own eyes that her brother Robb's direwolf was shot to death by Frey soldiers, and immediately knew what had happened. Just as she was about to go look for her mother, she was knocked unconscious. When she woke up, she was already on horseback.

"Can mother and the others escape?" Arya wiped the tears from her face and asked the hound beside her.

The Hound is Sandor, one of Joffrey's Kingsguard who escaped from the Battle of King's Landing and the younger brother of the Mountain, the best fighter in King's Landing.

When the Hound was very young, the Mountain pressed his face into a brazier, leaving half of his face covered with hideous scars and only half of his ear left.

The wildfires in the Battle of King's Landing awakened the fear deep in his heart. He dared not continue to defend the city and fled King's Landing.

"No one would have thought that the Freys would openly attack the guests at the wedding. Since Walder dared to do this, he must have made sufficient preparations and would not let go of any Northern nobles, especially your mother and your brother." The Hound looked ahead and analyzed expressionlessly.

"But I seem to have seen my uncle secretly setting fire to the haystack. He must know something!" Arya retorted, unwilling to believe the Hound's analysis, remembering the time when she saw her uncle Blackfish.

The Hound thought for a moment and then said, "Even if they find out something is wrong, it will be too late."

Arya knew that what the Hound said made sense, but she still couldn't believe it and stared at the Twins in a daze.

A day later, Varys received news from Riverrun. Seeing Robb and Catelyn escaped back to Riverrun, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

In the Hand's Tower in King's Landing, Tywin picked up the wine glass on the table and slammed it to the ground. He hadn't been so angry for a long time, and one could imagine how furious he was.

Even the carefully planned Red Wedding could go wrong. No wonder the Frey family has been unable to become a first-class noble for generations. They are only fit to collect bridge tolls.

The plan was completely disrupted, and Tyrion's opportunity for marriage was wasted. He had to re-analyze the situation in the Seven Kingdoms.

In the meeting hall of Dragonstone, "Robb is not dead? How is that possible! No one can escape from such a deadly situation!" The red-robed woman looked at Stannis in disbelief.

"The fact is, he is not dead. Could something have gone wrong with the Lord of Light?" Stannis had a hint of doubt about the Lord of Light.

"My Lord cannot be wrong. There must be something wrong with us. It seems that your current strength is weaker than I thought." The red-robed woman said with a frown.

After listening to the red-robed woman's words, Stannis' heart couldn't help but tighten, and the image of Shireen's cute baby appeared in his mind.
