Chapter 7 - Emerald Swan

Hearing the elder say, "gold level technique," Lin Susu's eyes lit up instantly and took in a deep breath. To others, silver is already beyond their reach, but for a golden technique, there might even be a sect competition for ownership in a major empire.

She personally hasn't heard of the family owning a gold rank technique, and that's probably for a good reason.

"Elder Tang, I would like to learn this technique."

The old man was taken back a little but he didn't mind as he pulled out a yellowed book from the shelves, and passed it over.

"Make sure this doesn't get into the wrong hands." Lin Tang warned, as Lin Susu nodded her head, grabbing both manuals and placing them in her robes.

She left the Sutra Pavilion while waving at Elder Tang. The old man was standing by the entrance to the Sutra Pavilion, looking at Lin Susu's figure.

'Heh, this is quite a find. If she can learn this technique to even 5% completion, I think she could join a top ranking sect.' He mused, and laughed.

A mortal bloodline stepping into the world of immortality is a flaw in the heavens. Such luck and means gave him the idea of passing down the strongest technique in the family.

'And she doesn't have to worry about the suppression of the heavens considering she is a mortal... That means she doesn't have to suffer when breaking through in the future.'

The girl had been walking along the paved pathway in front of the clan and passed by a few maids who had bowed when she went by them. The walk was quick and filled with little activity. When she arrived back at home, a few of the maids noticed that she had returned.

Lin Susu walked straight up the steps and didn't seem to have much to say, though as soon as she walked into her room, she started to scream and jumped on her bed.

"Ehehehe."

Lin Susu sat crossed legged and placed both the books on the side of the bed, taking them out one at a time.

"The Phantom Root Technique!" She screamed while looking at the title. It wasn't as pretty as the other, but she knew it was better than anything in the clan.

Opening the book, it showed a person in the lotus position, with a ghost-like tree root entering a person's body and spreading into the ground. Each root represents the person's mental body. A person can have up to nine roots and can be used as a scouting and movement technique. It also strengthens the person's physical and mental strength by nine times.

"So I can use the technique to transfer my physical body to where my mental 'root' body is," Lin Susu muttered. "But the more roots I have out, the less space I have to travel through the world. Though, with one root, I can travel quite the distance!"

"This isn't a bad technique." She smiled and put down the scroll and was about to read the Emerald Swan but was interrupted by the system voice.

[Detecting that the host has read the "Phantom Root" Technique. Would you like to add it to the system?]

Lin Susu stood up from her bed and her body trembled, but she didn't hesitate to click yes. Instantly, information and techniques of the technique flashed in her head as if a flash of lighting. Lin Susu stumbled and held onto her head. She had to calm down for a couple of seconds, before sitting back down.

[Host: Lin Susu]

[Realm: First Stage of Qi Refinement (XP: 0/20)]

[Bloodline: Mortal]

[Vitality: 15/101]

[Exercises: (Can't practice)]

[Techniques: level 1/9 Phantom Root (XP: 0/1000)]

[Professions: None]

"Ahhhh." Lin Susu was now a little sad, as she clicked on the Phantom Root Technique, wondering if it took a one thousand experience points for each level. Judging on how the system ups her XP by the same starting number every time, it would probably increase by a thousand each level.

'God, how much XP would I need to level up Emerald Swan?'

Sighing deeply, she put away the scroll and turned her attention to the second manual, Emerald Swan Technique. She slowly opened the book and looked through the technique.

Emerald Swan used the nine veins of the heart to pump pure natural Qi from the outside world into the user's body, circulating it through every nerve, organ, muscle and bone. Each time you do the technique, your Qi reserves are increased, allowing the user to absorb natural energy more easily and increasing the rate at which they can restore their energy reserves. This also refines the body silently as long as one heart beats.

"So, the heart's veins act as a source to draw the outside natural Qi in. Interesting. It also allows one to have more Qi at the same rank, but it also slows down one's cultivation as they need more Qi to break through. Luckily for me, I don't need to refine Qi to increase my realm."

Lin Susu said with a chuckle, while the system also sounded in her mind.

Lin Susu grinned widely. This is what she's waiting for. Clicking on yes, instantly, techniques of the skill flashed into her mind. However, unlike Phantom Root Technique, her entire body began to heat up as if something was piercing through her veins, trying to spread and connect. Lin Susu cried out in pain and grabbed her head. Her entire body shook violently before her back arched and a green light flashed on her heart. Her Qi cycle began to circulate more rapidly before everything became still and the light dimmed down.

Lin Susu felt her body feeling much lighter and a sense of natural energy began to fill her body, spreading through every nerve. Her heart was pumping much faster now.

"Wait... Ten thousand experience points to Level up again!?" She yelled out and looked at the system.

She sighed heavily and put away the techniques into her system space. Yes, like other systems, she has her own system space.
