"Hey, what was going on?" As soon as Sheena came in, Eason stood up and inquired with care.
All of them had noticed Stephan didn't followed up and looked up with grins. "Sheena, you're not honest to us! " all of them seemed to have misunderstood something.
Sheena waved her hands to deny their relationship, "It's not like what you're thinking about."
"A secret. Sheena has borne a secret back from us now." Mike teased at her with a grin ear to ear.
Everyone was pleased by such a joke and all in a face of curiousness.
"Sheena has her Prince Charming now?"
"Gosh, Sheena is still single?"
Gossips would just go on as if Sheena were not there.
"Hey, why are you all focusing on the status of Sheena, we gather for fun, right?" Elsa noticed Sheena's embarrassment due to this topic so she rolled her eyes at them and lifted up a cup of wine, "Don't bother about this, just enjoy our gathering time now please."
Elsa was always the girl that understood this gang of seniors and smart enough to release Sheena from trouble. Sheena looked at Elsa with appreciations and gratefulness. If there was a person that could let Sheena describe as Sunshine, Elsa definitely would be the one.
However, at this scene, Elsa didn't answer to her smile but just immerse into the communication and games with the crowd of people.
"Sheena..." Eason inquired Sheena with a firm determination of getting the answer. "Who is that, the so-called Stephan Korade, what's your relationship with him?"
Sheena stared at Eason, frowning.
Back in the memory, Sheena had never seen Eason would show so much interest in her. Every time he would just come to her and inquire something like that: what's the signs of a girl loving a boy? How to buy gifts to please the girlfriend? Except these, their communication would always be focused on the examination and tricks.
Eason acted different from before, and Sheena didn't know why.
"Eason, why?" Sheena asked, determining to release and express her doubts, "why do you care?" this would be the question that Sheena hesitated to get the answer but had to get the answer.
Sheena didn't give the answer, this surprised Eason. For Eason, Sheena was a obedient girl that she would never refuse his questions or request. How come just half a year past and everything would change like this?
Not knowing what Eason was thinking about, Sheena decided to ignore this question, because from the signs that Eason had given, Eason wouldn't answer but be silent to escape from answering. Something, Eason was so smart that he would chose to ignore some facts or questions that he would desire the least to accept or solve.
"There is no crush between he an me, though." of course, Sheena didn't want to raise any misunderstanding or trouble in life, too, so she chose to confess and make a statement. After all, since there is a due time for the marriage, it's better that news spreading could be avoided if possible.
"Oh..." Eason seemed to have a breathe out as relief, frowning still "but he seemed to know you so well."
Frowning with confusion, Sheena didn't understand why he would think this way. Except the registration, she had never had the chance or desire to get along with Stephan Korade, who was right in the opposite world. For such a careless boy like Stephan, Sheena didn't have the desire or intention to fall in love with him. That would mean a mass of trouble that she had to deal with, not matter it's towards the lifestyle or girlfriends.
Therefore, Sheena wouldn't let herself fall into such chaos, she would like the due time end as soon as possible, it's better that it would happen before everyone realized this relationship.
"Our families have some ties, but this has nothing to do with me." Sheena clarified and stared at Eason, "Please quit this topic, I have nothing more to say."
The serious face stopped Eason's curiosity, for he was the first time to see Sheena in such an expression. In his memory, Sheena was always innocent and risible in front of him, back then he had ever doubted whether she had nothing to worry about that she could have such an optimistic mindset.
"Okay, quit this vapidity and continue our games." Eason lifted up his cup of wine and cheered with everyone in seat.
"Cheers!"
"Enjoy while we can!"
"Yeah!"
Everyone focused on games and happiness from then on, lost in the music and night. Sheena could sense that these seniors were maturer than they were in the past and sized every chance to enjoy themselves. Is it because the days of working make them suffer too much?
Taking a sip of the wine in hand, Sheena stared at this gang of friends smilingly. She couldn't help imagining about the prospect that she would have in the future.
"What's your plan for your future?" captured the sight of Sheena, Eason got closer and asked, "do you need any help from me? If needed, maybe I could recommend you to my..."
"No, thanks" Sheena smiled and rejected immediately.
Maybe Eason was doing it as a hand's turn, Sheena didn't think accepting his advice would be a good idea. Although his company was good and famed, Sheena didn't want to cause any trouble or misunderstanding.
"Sylvia..." Sheena murmured unconsciously.
Right after hearing this name, the brightness in Eason's eyes just disappeared.
Not until this time did Sheena realize something bad had happened to Eason.
Frowning and seriously, Sheena stared at Eason, "did you two break up?"
"Em…Yes." After a long while Eason nodded his head, while in the meaning time staring at Sheena with a kind of strange expression.
"Why?" Although it's possible for Sheena should be happy for this news for herself, she couldn't accept the enormous efforts that she had spent with Eason in chasing after Sylvia would end like this.
Eason didn't answer immediately but gave a wry smile. "No one would expect we would have such an ending just after half a year."
Sheena captured the pain hidden in the eyes of Eason, she didn't know what she could say to comfort the man right in front of her, it's wordless to describe this love story right in their life.
"didn't you have tried hard to work in the same city and lived in the same department?" Sheena helped to pour a cup of wine for Eason, Eason just accepted and swallowed it up just by a gulp.
With bloodshot eyes, Eason grinned from ear to ear.
Sheena had never expected someone's smile would reveal pain instead of happiness. Sheena couldn't withhold her upset and stretched a hand out to pat on the thick shoulder of Eason, "Don't have to give a forced smile in front of me, you don't need to do so."
Hearing this, Eason looked deeply into my eyes in a shocked silence.
Right before Sheena thought Eason would just be still and silent there, Eason gulped another cup of wine and then started to talk, "I have predicted the breakup indeed. Otherwise I wouldn't try so hard to find a job in the same city with her."
As if immersed in the memory, Eason continued, "I thought nothing would defeat love except distance. But it turned out that change could smash love into pieces."
Sheena got a bad feeling before Eason revealed more. "Did she betray…"
Eason didn't let Sheena complete her words, for he still preferred to strut around in front of Sheena. "I went out for a business trip to another city and came back without telling her. When I opened the door of the department, where was a pair of male shoes and nobody was in the living room..."
"Derailment right in front of me, so ridiculous!"
"Originally I wanted to give her a surprise, I even bought a bunch of flowers, she always said she would like flowers rather than jewelries."
"But it ended up that she preferred jewelries rather than me. That's her boss, a startup entrepreneur. "
"She even tried to stop my beating him up."
Eason confessed without hiding anything, after all Sheena was one of the helpers in his relationship with Sylvia.
Sheena desired to say something but words just swallowed down the throat when she saw the face of Eason. Sheena had never seen such an expression on the face of Eason, who was such an optimistic man that she had only seen once. Back then he was still in the school and quarreled with Sylvia for the first time. Except that time Eason was always a boy doing things with smile and politeness.
Seemed to capture the intention of Sheena, Eason touched the forehead of Sheena to comfort her, "Don't worry, it's fine to me now."
Right at this moment, Sheena couldn't bear it anymore but burst into cry.
Why true love would end like this? Why?
