Chapter 26 - Exploring the cave pt.4

I finally let go of the spiders head and just slumped on the ground. The level up and healed all my injuries but I was still exhausted.

I miss my home.

I just want to curl up on my little bed, made of dry leaves and go to sleep.i don't know how long I've been in this cave but it must have been over a day by now, and I haven't slept once!

Well unless you count the time I was in the cocoon, but I'm not counting that!

So that spider I just beat really was a dream stalker. I thought that might be the case since it just looked like a slightly bigger version os the lesser dream walker. But if it was just a dream walker, what was the giant spider from earlier? Was it really a greater dream walker?

I guess I won't find out unless I kill it and I don't see that happening any time soon.

I received another title as well.

Underdog.

The effects seem good, but what's the difference between stage and level?

I guess it could be a certain amount of level?

Im not sure though, there's still so much I don't know about this world and the system isn't really any help. Well there's not much I can really do about it so I suppose I'll just carry on as I have been.

I gained two levels in that battle so I suppose I should check my status.

[status]

species: fox beast cub

level :7

HP: 80

MP: 115

Strength: 16

Agility:18

Vitality: 16

intelligence: 23

Stat points: 2

Skill points: 20

Titles: pest control (upgradable), underdog

Skills: Bite level 2

 Scratch level 3

 Dash level 2

 Night vision level 2

 Shadow magic level 3

 Dig level 2

 Sneak level 1

 Appraisal level 2

 Illusion resistance level 2

 anger level 1

 pounce level 1

 pain resistance level 1

My status look a lot different than the last time I checked. I finally got my mp into the hundreds and I've got quite a few new skills. Im bit confused about my anger skill though. I'm not sure what it actually does.

Does it just make me angry?

I doubt that's all it would do, but I have no way to check.

Whoever made this system needs to be fired. How could they not notice such a big flaw?

It's the same with the pain resistance skill. I can figure out that it's meant to make me resistant to pain but it would be nice to know how much. I still felt loads of pain in that last battle!

"sigh"

I guess it's no use complaining, I really just need to find somewhere to sleep. I don't think I'll be able to fight anymore with how exhausted I am. There's now way I can sleep in here, another monster could pop up any minute.

I slowly get up and walk over to where the body of the tunnel rat is. I decide to quickly eat it, avoiding as much as the webs as I can. It was kind of disgusting, not as disgusting as the mole rats but disgusting nether less.

Now I've finally eaten something I decide to just sleep in one of the tunnel the tunnel rat made. I know it's not completely safe but Im really too tired to search for a better place.

I go about 10 meters into the tunnel and use dig on the side. I then crawl into the little gap I made, and grab some of the dirt to block the entrance. I leave a small hole to make sure I can breath, then curl up and fall asleep instantly.

I'm woken up a few hours lated by a system notification.

[ding!]

{quest failed, -10 skill points!]

I forgot all about that!

I only needed to kill a few more moss rats and then I would have been done!

"sigh"

It's that's stupid giant spiders fault! if it hadn't trapped me in that illusion and brought me into this cave, I would have done it ages ago!

I quickly check my status again and see that my skill points have gone from 20 down to 10.

So it really did take them...

I notice I still had 2 stat points so I decided to put them both in strength, my attacks have been lacking damage lately, and as much as I want to increase my mp, I don't have any magic that actually inflicts damage yet.

I then make my way out of my little hole and back into the cavern. I pick the passage that doesn't look like it heads back in the direction of the giant spider and carry on my exploration.

Whilst walking I debate whether I should request another quest or not. I want to leave this cave but I don't want a quest to leave this cave. All my quests have come with a time limit so far and I don't want to fail another one.

Thinking about it, I wonder what kind of quest I would get if I requested one without a pacific goal in mind. Would the system automatically give me a quest that beneficial to me or would it just give me any old random quest?

I decide to just request one and find out, as long as the punishment isn't death I should be alright even if it's something I can't complete. With that in side I request a quest.

[ding!]

[quest received...]

[get to level 10!]

[time limit: 168 hours]

[difficulty:normal]

[rewards: system upgrade]

[penalty for failure: death!]

Reading the quest I stopped dead in my tracks.

Is the system mocking me? I only just thought to my self 'as long as the punishment isn't death' and what does it do?

Gives me a quest where the punishment is death!

The rewards seems investing though, I've seen this in a few web novels. Sometimes the system even gets an AI. That would be nice, at least I would be able to talk to someone rather than always talking to my self.

It really does need an upgrade though, the system is way too basic!

Even if it doesn't get an AI, I would be happy enough just to be able to see the descriptions of the skill I have. I'll just have to wait and see, it's not like I have a choice anyway, I'll die if I don't do the quest.

168 hours should be plenty of time to get 3 levels. I think it works out to be about a week. I'm not even sure how old I am, I haven't been keeping track, but I don't think I'm even two whole weeks old yet. Plus I seem to be in the best place to level up, the monster here give me more xp than the moss rats ever did so I should be able to do this in no time.

Trying to see the positive side of thing I start walking again.

"It's time to go hunting!"
