Chapter 27 - Exploring the cave pt.5

I carried on exploring the cave killing any monsters that I saw. So far I managed to kill 4 lesser dream stalkers, and 2 centipede monsters called voltipedes, they were large black centipedes, about a meter long that kept emitting blue flashes when they moved.

They were extremely fast but both were low level. Once I summoned a shadow to slow them down they were easy to kill. The only problem was whenever I hit them, I would receive a small electric shock.

The first time I found one, I used bite to kill it and my whole mouth went numb!

They only gave me 50 xp each so after the second one I decided they weren't really with the hassle.

After a while I came to another cavern. This one was smaller than the last and it seemed to be a dead end. I did find another 2 lesser dream walkers though, that I quickly killed.

I didn't give me enough xp to level up but my scratch skill did go up a level. It was now level 4, making it my highest level skill.

Before turning back I decided to have a quick walk round the cavern to see if I could find any tunnels made by any tunnel rats.

Observing the wall as I walked around, I started to think that I would really might have to turn back. Honestly I didn't want to, if I went back that way then I would be walking back towards the giant spider and no matter what I didn't want to see that thing again.

I had made it about three quarters of the way round when all of a sudden, my next step didn't find the ground and I fell forward.

Whoosh!

"Ahhh"

I was falling. I was concentrating too much on the wall and dint notice the hole in the floor right in front of me!

I fell for what felt like ages but in reality was probably less that a minute before,

Splash!

I landed in a large lake. I instantly started panicking. With all the screaming I done as I was falling, I hadn't had time to take a breath. I started flailing about trying to get to the surface but instead just kept sinking I had never been much of a swimmer in my past life. I hated it when water went into my ears, so I always refused to go.

I quickly reached the bottom of the lake and stoped struggling. I couldn't hold my breath for much longer, and struggling was just making it hard to think.

Looking up, I was sure that I wasn't too deep, I felt like I had only sunk a couple of meters and if so I might be able to jump up to the surface. It wouldn't get me out of the lake, but at least I should be able to take a breath.

I used leap and jumped up through the water, just about getting my head above the surface. I only managed to take half a breath before I started sinking again. This time I didn't start panicking, I focused on sinking as fast as a could so I could jump back up again.

I jumped again, this time swell as taking a breath, I tried seeing where the shore was so I could at least start jumping in that direction. I couldn't see much because the water in my eyes but I managed to see couple of rocks about 20 meters away before sinking back down again.

I repeated this process heading towards the rocks, each time getting harder and harder as I couldn't get a full breath.

[ding!]

[pounce has levelled up to level 2]

Jumping again, this time I managed to get high enough for my shoulder to make it out of the water as well, giving me enough time to finally get a full breath. I got about 5 meters away from the rocks when I released I wasn't sinking as far anymore meaning I was getting closer to the shore.

After a couple more jumps I didn't need to jump anymore, and I walked out of the water, finally making it to dry land. I dropped to the floor panting and took a moment to try and catch my breath.

A few minuets later I finally stopped panting and got up to look at my surroundings. I was in a huge cavern, at least five times bigger than any others I had seen so far. I could see several large boulders dotted around the place and countless stalagmite everywhere.

The lake was located at the centre of the room and easily took up a third of the space. in the middle of the lake was a small island. Well I call it an island but really it's just a large flat rock, just poking up through the surface of the water.

I could only see it because of the soft silver glow coming from the centre of the rock. I tried to get a better look at whatever was making that glow by jumping up on to the boulder I was near but I still wasn't able to tell.

I couldn't see a single monster anywhere and the place was completely silent apart from the occasional drip that could be heard from the water dripping of the stalactite 20 meters above.

Looking at the silver glow, I wondered what it could be. I could feel a strange energy, telling me something special was there.

My whole body was tingling, almost craving what ever was over there. I had never felt anything like this before, it was if every fibre of my being was screaming at me, telling me I must have it.

The only problem was, I couldn't see a way to get to it. I couldn't swim and I couldn't see any kind of bridge.

There must be a way. I couldn't just leave whatever it was there, not with the way it was calling out to me.

I'll find a way to get it!

Even if I have to spend the next few day teaching my self to swim!
