Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Meeting The Favorite Hero

After receiving the message confirming that she was leaving and might be absent for some days, Emma first thought of calling Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters but ultimately decided not to. What if she returned before then?

She left her apartment, waiting for Coulson. She wanted to arrive as soon as possible to see who her team members would be for the mission, so she could come up with the best plan.

Emma sighed, "Ah, no matter how bad the situation is, I can save myself, so why am I even stressing in the first place?"

She didn't see herself as a hero who would endure saving someone who insulted her, blaming all his problems on her. She had been standing there for more than 20 minutes, reflecting, before being pulled from her thoughts when she saw that familiar car, it was Coulson.

"Oh Emma, after such a long time without seeing you, it seems you're already in love," Coulson said, teasing her.

'Oh, you want to tease me?' she thought confidently, knowing she was quick with her words. She replied, "Oh yes, it was a bald guy who managed to charm me. I was thinking if there's a cure for baldness in Brazil so I can surprise him."

Coulson was caught off guard by her response and could only chuckle to hide his embarrassment. 'Note to self: don't tease her next time.'

But in fact, he would still do it if necessary, as it was his way of making her feel less nervous.

After awakening her powers, this would probably be the first time Emma would be in real danger. Even someone like Coulson, who had seen all kinds of things, felt some fear at the thought of the green titan. To his relief, she showed no sign of fear or nervousness.

Emma had noticed what Coulson was doing. From Tsunade's memories, she knew that some teachers used similar way with their Genin teams on their first dangerous mission. Not every team was like Team 7, after all.

Sitting in the car, watching the buildings pass by, she asked, "So, are you going to give me a briefing?"

Coulson, still driving, shook his head and replied, "Unfortunately, no. You'll have to wait until we arrive, because I don't know much myself."

"Ah, okay," she said. After that, Emma fell silent, and Coulson didn't bother her. He knew that, given the current situation, there was no room for jokes like before.

The rest of the drive was quiet, with Coulson concentrating on driving and Emma slipping into a more serious mindset.

They finally reached the familiar underground base where she and Fury had visited before when she first arrived in this world. She could already sense the presence of some familiar life forces below.

Unlike when she was with Fury, the hatch automatically opened without additional identification, confusing about the hierarchy.

Once inside, after passing through the formalities and reaching the hall, the first thing that greeted Emma was three people in discussion.

Fury, who was among them, turned his head at the sound of the door opening. As expected, it was Emma who had arrived first.

He greeted her, "Hi Emma, we meet again."

She replied, "Come on, we both knew it was just a matter of a few hours anyway. So, you must have already reached an agreement. How did it go?"

The other two in the room had no idea what the two were talking about. They were just surprised to see Director Fury having a friendly conversation with someone, and that the latter seemed to hold a higher position.

Fury responded, "Well, it wasn't bad, but there have been a few minor changes, you see."

"But first, let me introduce these two. They'll be teaming up with you on this mission."

He gestured to them. "The first one goes by the code name Hawkeye. He's an archer, probably the best. As for the woman, she's called Natasha. As for her code name, well, better learn that yourself."

Emma had noticed them when she first entered, but she needed to make sure Fury understood that she had her priorities straight.

She gave them a careful look and was surprised that this Hawkeye was the comics version, not the one she expected.

She recognized him easily, Hawkeye was her favorite Marvel hero. She thought, 'It's unfortunate he doesn't have his movie background. I really liked that, too. He deserves his family.'

Of course, her thoughts remained her own, as she smiled and introduced herself in a rather unique way, "Hello guys, I'm Emma. My age, well, that's a secret. Currently single and playing part-time teacher."

Hawkeye, who had noticed Emma's earlier pitiful gaze, was speechless at her introduction. Who gives away such personal details to two strangers at a first meeting?

Natasha sized Emma up. If there was one thing Natasha noticed right away, it was how incredibly busty this woman was.

She smiled at Emma and playfully said, "Haha, I'm also single, and my age is a secret too."

Barton whispered to Emma, even though he was sure Natasha would hear him, "Don't be fooled, her code name is Black Widow."

Emma smiled; it seemed their relationship was as strong as ever.

Fury, who had let them chat to get acquainted, finally interrupted, knowing they didn't have much time.

"Okay, I need to discuss something important with Emma," he said, turning to her. "Follow me."

Emma shrugged at the others before following him. She wanted to know what had changed, especially after he mentioned that there were some adjustments.

'I hope it's not something bad or… hmm.'

Either way, she didn't have the energy to play games with politicians and would be even more radical than Tsunade in dealing with them if needed.
