"Lucien!" I yelled as I bent over him, my heart racing. His chest scarcely raised and lowered while his body remained still. I placed my fingers to his neck and could hardly feel his pulse; his skin was pallid, his breathing shallow. As I struggled to stir him up, a piercing, icy fear shot through me.
"Lucien, please," I murmured in a broken voice. "Please stay with me. Not in this manner."
But he remained silent. His face was devoid of color, and his eyes were half closed. In front of me, the guy I loved was slipping away, and I felt helpless.
"Somebody help!" My voice cracked with fear as I yelled. Warriors surrounded us, horror and bewilderment on their faces. At first, it seemed as if everyone was immobilized by the image of their alpha laying there on the ground.
