Chapter 19 - Cakara - The Charismatic Mountain Bandit

However, not once does Arkadevi voice her pain. Knowing that her crying would only make Bramasti even more excited, she keeps enduring it and continues staring at the man with a despising gaze.

On the other hand, the one massive flesh tendril, which is currently trying to swallow Adanu Raksa, has now reached his torso. Adanu Raksa is no longer able to bear the nightmare. Not when his mom is being tortured so horribly like that in front of him.

"Somebody! Please help my mom!"

He pleads weakly. But no one hears his prayer. And soon, his brain instinctively shuts itself down, protecting the child's mind from the terror. His vision begins to blurry before he experiences a black out, completely losing consciousness with open eyes.

Out of nowhere, the roof above them is suddenly broken by someone. One mysterious man with a shabby cloak appears and slams his Damascus short sword at Bramasti's head.

Jlebs!!!

Just one stroke and Bramasti lifelessly collapses with the sword still stuck in his skull. But too sad, the man is a bit late to save Arkadevi.

"Oh, God!"

He is grimacing at the grotesque sight of Arkadevi's dead body, with an urge to puke. Not wanting his brain to store that gore image, he immediately takes his face away.

But there's nothing good inside that house anymore. The interior is looking like he is inside the belly of the beast, full of bloody and slimy throbbing flesh, with so many flesh tendrils all over the place.

Seeming to know exactly what is happening inside the house, he simply pulls out the mystical dagger that Bramasti planted on the floor.

"Let's secure this thing first!"

Soon after that, the earth is shaking so hard again. All the flesh tendrils are sucked back to the ground, toward the point where that demonic kris was planted before.

But before taking his leave, the mysterious man notices Adanu Raksa being sucked in along with one big flesh tendril, still with wide opened eyes.

"No way! Don't tell me the kid is still alive!"

He grabs the handle of his short Damascus sword, and pulls it out rashly. It makes everything inside Bramasti's head flow out of his skull. Without wasting any time, the mysterious man cuts that one massive flesh tendril to free Adanu Raksa from it.

As the severed tendril is floundering wildly, the mysterious man simply shuts silent while staring at the mystical Kris in his hand.

"So, the myth about this dagger is true, huh? I can never imagine this tiny thing can summon such a humongous demon to reality."

Outside the house, the giant petals are now fluttering. They turn back into soil and then fall down to the ground. After all those slimy flesh tendrils, the throbbing flesh, and the giant petals gone, everything also becomes so quiet.

The mysterious man picks up the dagger sheath from Bramasti's waist and puts the mystical Kris back into it. Soon, he is surprised by Adanu Raksa's coughing.

"Oh, shiit! He's still alive?" He rushes to Adanu Raksa and pats his left cheek. "Hey kid! Are you still there? Wake up!"

Adanu Raksa's eyes open slightly. It's only for a moment before the eyes slowly close back. But at least, the man still finds signs of life from him.

The mysterious man looks around him, and fear begins to hit his heart. The dusk is gradually getting darker outside, but it isn't the night he fears. Anyone could come to that place and would misunderstand him as the bad guy who created the chaos.

Ultimately, he picks up Adanu Raksa and puts him on his shoulder. With so much ease, he lightly jumps onto the roof which he previously broke, and soon disappears into the darkness.

The night is back to its silence, filled with the sound of crickets chirping, as if trying to inform the entire universe of the tragic death of a woman on the same day her husband was buried.

Not long after, a few villagers of Talang Asri appear. The condition of Rangkabhumi's house makes them confused. There are so many piles of dirt and soil covering the roof. So is the ground, it's in a mess, looking so chaotic with many cracks.

"How did it become so chaotic like this?"

"Could be because of the earthquake earlier?"

"Then how did that chunk of earth get up there?"

"This is… It's as if the earth had turned up-side down."

"Oh, God! Arkadevi! Adanu Raksa!!!"

They rush into the house by carrying bamboo torches. As soon as they enter, they are greeted with the pitiful sight of Arkadevi, who lies lifelessly, completely naked with torn skin.

Meanwhile, the mysterious man earlier is taking Adanu Raksa to the south, traveling through the dense and dark forest by jumping from tree branch to another tree branch.

Before midnight, he reaches the southern border of Chakradwipa territory, a distance that would normally take more than 1 day to travel on foot.

He continues climbing a hill at the foot of Mount Agung, until he reaches a small settlement consisting of only six adjacent stilt houses. As he jumps off of a tree branch, several men welcome with unsheathed swords.

"Who are you?" asks one of them by pointing the tip of his sword at the mysterious man's head.

The mysterious man uncovers his hood, letting the dim light of the moon hit his charismatic face. In that instant, those people immediately change his attitude toward him.

"Boss! Where have you been?"

"We've been looking for you the whole week!"

They are just a group of mountain bandits, and this charismatic man who has saved Adanu Raksa is actually their leader.

One of them, a kid with a bow in his back named Hasya, the youngest one but actually the most impolite of the rest, comes to the leader with an unpleasant look.

"Whose child are you bringing here, Cakara? Are we now going to switch professions from robbers to child kidnappers?"

But the charismatic young man named Cakara just keeps walking towards one house, the largest one among the rest. "Don't ask too many questions! Quickly bring me warm water! This kid is having a high fever! You have no idea the nightmare he has gone through!"
