Chapter 24 - Wait For Me, Mom!

It's not about Agra's terrifying figure as a mountain bandit. It's about the things that man has said in his arguments that make Adanu Raksa so terrified.

After examining the situation around him, Adanu Raksa runs away by quietly moving towards the back of the house.

Meanwhile, Hasya is busy helping the others with the looted goods. Of the many looted stuff, there are some nice clothes that happen to fit his body size.

He looks so happy that he no longer cares about Adanu Raksa. This is quite understandable, since he has no other clothes besides what he is wearing at the moment.

"Hey, Cakara! Would you give all these clothes to me?"

"Sure! No one will be able to wear it except you. By the way, what about that kid?"

"He's awake, and is doing quite well."

"That's great! Share the clothes with him too. Starting today he will be a part of us!"

"Sure!"

With a cheerful face, Hasya carries the pile of clothes and runs towards Cakara's house. But of course, Adanu Raksa is no longer there.

Confused, Hasya leaves the clothes on a chair in the living room, and then starts searching for Adanu Raksa in various places.

He thinks that Adanu Raksa is just wandering around the settlement. But until the late afternoon, he still can't find him.

"Hey, Hasya!" Yodha calls by raising a hand which is holding a piece of grilled meat. "What's with the hassle? Come here and join us! I know you haven't eaten anything since yesterday!"

Hasya rushes to Yodha who is currently gathered with the others around a campfire. With a worried face, he shares with Yodha regarding Adanu Raksa's situation.

"The kid! He is not here!"

"What?"

"I've tried to look for him everywhere. But I couldn't find him."

Only Yodha and five other men seem to care. They get up and leave the banquet, intending to help Hasya to find Adanu Raksa.

But the nine other men including Agra just ignore the issue and continue eating. Agra even throws a piece of grilled meat at Hasya and invites him to join.

"Forget about that kid! Come here and eat with us!"

Hasya doesn't look happy at all. So far, Agra has always treated him so badly. Why is he behaving so nice to him at a time like this?

"You! Did you do something to that kid?" Hasya inquires with a suspicious gaze.

"What was that?" Agra replies with a displeased look on his face.

"I know you were the first one to leave the others, and I saw you walk towards Cakara's house. And everyone knows you have bad intentions towards…"

"Bastard!" Agra slams the grilled meat in his hand to the ground. He gets up while drawing his sword. "Just because Cakara and I are having a fight, now you deliberately corner me with that accusation! You son of a bitch! I know you deliberately brought this issue in order to get me kicked out of this place!"

With a face filled with anger, Agra approaches Hasya with a sword in his hand. The frightened Hasya immediately pulls a sword from Yodha's waist, and draws it in a defensive stance.

The kid doesn't think about running away. But fear is clearly seen in his face. Fortunately, just when Agra intends to swing his sword, Cakara comes out of the woods and scolds Agra by deliberately releasing his murderous aura.

"Cakara! You've killed enough kids today! If you are still not satisfied with killing people, why don't you try fighting me now?"

Knowing very well how great Cakara's kanuragan is, Agra slowly lowers his sword. But his face is still filled with irritation.

Hasya then explains the situation to Cakara, and also shares his suspicions. Cakara sees a valid argument behind that accusation, but…

"I haven't even seen the kid since last night," Agra argues. "He might have been scared of us and ran away! If you really think that I've killed the kid, then find the body first! You can't just accuse me without any evidence, and…"

Dsh!!!

Cakara suddenly sends his knuckle hitting Agra's temple. It's quite hard, strong enough to slam the man's head to the ground. But then…

<< Easy! I know the kid isn't dead yet! But you have to find him! You must know how important he is to our dreams >>

Cakara shuts silent for a moment. Soon, he splits his men into four groups to look for Adanu Raksa, except for two men whom he orders to hold Agra there.

"Hasya, you go with me! Yodha and Lindo Aji! You stay here and watch over that man! Don't let him leave before my return," Cakara orders.

"Is this how you treat me now?" Agra expresses his disappointment. "You treat your friend who has been with you for years like a traitor, just to defend some unknown kid you just met yesterday?"

Cakara simply ignores him, and continues giving instruction to his men. "Let's find him before it gets dark. If the kid did run away, I'm sure he is now going down the hill towards the valley, and a kid like him won't be able to run so far. You understand the kid's situation, right? It will be dangerous being around him during the night. If any of you find him, immediately signal the others."

Twelve men bow their heads slightly towards Cakara, and then go to their respective houses to make some preparations.

"Daamn! He even went so far as to hit his best friend and treat him as a traitor!"

"I don't know what Cakara sees in that cursed kid. He even risks our lives just to find him!"

Meanwhile, Adanu Raksa is really running away by going down the hill as Cakara had predicted. However, Cakara never thought that Adanu Raksa could really run nonstop for so long.

He is so out of breath now. But he keeps forcing his legs to move. It's no longer because of fear of the bandits, but because of worry about his mother's safety.

As he is gaping with the little stamina he has left, he is stumbled on a root that is sticking out of the ground.

He falls to the ground and looks behind. There he finds the root looking similar to the terrifying flesh tendrils he saw at home. In that instant, the trauma he experienced yesterday resurfaces in his mind.

"No! Get away from me! Get away from…"

"Hah! Hah! It's just a tree root?"

With resolution, he gets back up and spurs his run again. His face looks so fierce painted by rage and hatred.

"Curse you, Bramasti! How dare you betray us?"

"Wait for me, mom! I'm going to save you, and kill that bastard!"
