Chapter 2 - Chapter 4

After a while in that horrible position, she decided that she could just remain here till the following morning.

She needed to escape before this monster she called a husband took her life.

Using her magic, she conjured up fire out of her hand. Even though the fire wasn't more than a candlelight, she was still able to manage and use it to slowly burn the rope that was used to bind her.

She turned her wrist most uncomfortably as she tried to burn the rope off. When she finally did, she untied the rest of her body and got off the bed.

She dressed up and was about to sneak out of the room when the door was barged open and someone she didn't expect to see walked in.

It was Sarah and she was holding a small container and a rope.

They both froze when they bumped into each other.

Emerald wondered what Sarah was doing in her room and with what she was holding while Sarah was wondering why Emerald was dressed vaguely with bruises all over her skin.

While they were still staring at each other, they both heard footsteps coming from outside.

Sarah, who was a werewolf, could smell the scent of whoever it was, with widened eyes, she gasped, "Lucian!"

Immediately, they both scrambled around the room in haste.

They didn't know where they were going exactly, All they knew was to not make Lucian see them.

Sarah, knowing she shouldn't be here at all, knew she had to hide else she would have a whole lot of explaining to do.

She fell to the ground and rolled under the bed in a hurry.

Seeing Sarah get under the bed triggered an idea in Emerald's mind and she knew Lucian mustn't meet her out of the rope.

She quickly pulled her clothes off, assuming the half-naked state that Lucian had left her in. She then mounted the bed quickly and tied her hands with the rope in haste.

She wasn't able to do it completely and just rolled the rope around her hands.

Just then the door opened wider and Lucian stepped in. He had changed from the black shirt he had donned the other time and was now clad in a brown bathrobe.

His sharp gaze instantly scanned the entire room as he stepped inside. When he saw that his wife was still where he left her, he walked in fully.

He glanced back at the door as his brows furrowed suspiciously. He then turned his gaze back to Emerald before walking towards the edge of the bed.

His gaze swept over her half-naked body, relishing the sight of bruises he had inflicted upon her.

Although he enjoyed what he was seeing, a whole part of him was sorrowful just by seeing the bruises on her.

Emerald began to beg him, tears falling from her eyes. He paid deaf ears to her pleas and just went ahead to scrutinize the rope he used to tie her down.

Surprisingly, it was still intact and nothing seemed to have torn it.

Emerald had used her magic in the nick of time before he got to her to reform the rope back to its former state.

It didn't have any sign of being burnt at all.

Lucian sat on the edge of the bed and looked at Emerald without saying a word.

Emerald wondered what was in her husband's mind. She hoped he didn't beat her again.

Suddenly, his head snapped in another direction. His nose itches and his ears twitch. Emerald swallowed on seeing this.

She guessed he must have smelled Sarah's scent from under the bed. Sweat began to pour down her body.

He might think she was here to rescue her if he catches her and that would only mean double trouble for her.

She remembered that she knew a certain spell that could cloud someone's sense of smell without them knowing.

She whirled her fingers in several directions and muttered incoherent words.

A faint fog appeared around her wrist and she held her fist in place.

Suddenly, Lucian didn't smell anything again. The scent was gone.

He concluded in his mind that it might have been a misconception, or maybe the fact that he misses Sarah. He missed her scent.

He glanced at Emerald and to his confusion, a wave of warmth instantly filled him.

He sighed, then reached above her.

Emerald thought he wanted to beat her again and flinched, curling up and shutting her eyes tightly. But she felt the heat of his body above her.

She could smell his perfumed body so close to her which stirred up strange feelings within her.

Then she felt the rope around her wrist being slowly untied. She peeked through her eyelids and saw Lucian's chest hovering above her as her wrist got freed. As soon as the rope was off, he stood up from the bed and walked out immediately, leaving Emerald behind.

She was a bit confused. She hadn't expected him to just release her like that. Although she was glad he did. She was about to let out a sigh of relief when she heard a sound under the bed. Sarah was still there.

Emerald quickly stood up and threw a cloth over herself just as Sarah got out from beneath the bed.

They both glared at each other without saying a word. She was the reason why she wasn't caught by Lucian, else she would have been in so much trouble than she was. Sarah walked backward till she was out of the room. Then, Emerald sighed. That night she couldn't sleep clearly as many thoughts ran through her mind. The following day, everyone who was still in the mansion left for their houses. Emerald was glad that things were back to the way they used to be. Lucian was back to ignoring her and Sarah wasn't seen in the mansion most of the time.

One afternoon, she had just prepared her lunch as Lucian had forbidden all the cooks in the mansion not to ever prepare food for her. She was about to sit down and sat when her phone rang. It was her mother calling and although she didn't want to pick up, she decided she was going to.

Her mother told her she wanted to speak with her urgently and gave an address where they should meet. Emerald was confused, she wondered what was so important that her mother couldn't tell her on the phone. And why would she give her a strange address, why not their house? Pushing all that behind her mind, she took a cab to the address given to her. When she got there she saw that it was a small apartment. She knocked on the door and while she waited for it to be answered, a hand suddenly covered her mouth. She couldn't scream and she began to feel weak. The handkerchief that was used to cover her mouth had been poisoned, making her feel dizzy and eventually black out.

When Emerald opened her eyes again, she met herself in a dimly lit room. The first thing she saw was her mother sitting opposite her, strapped to a chair. She was shivering from head to toe and there were tears in her eyes. Sarah was standing behind her, pointing a gun at her head.
