Anya excused herself from the room quickly. But Kai was faster as he followed her through the hall. Zephyr was so lost in his own frustration that he didn't even notice when Kai slipped out behind her.
She was nearly at her bedroom door when Kai caught up to her. Abruptly, he grabbed her wrist, pushing her up against the wall, pinning her hands high above her head. His grip was tight, and his presence was overwhelming for Anya.
"When?" Kai asked through clenched teeth. His voice was low as he spoke.
Anya gasped lightly. "When what?" she whispered with a trembling voice—not from fear, but from the secret she had kept from him.
Kai's jaw tightened, with his crimson eyes locking into hers. "When were you going to tell me that my compulsion didn't work on you?"
