Chapter 16 - FAMILY GATHERING

-Haruka POV-

"What about me?" A voice spoke behind me. I know who this voice belongs to. The person I don't really want to see right now.

"Brother Chris." I gave him an awkward smile.

"What are you smiling at?" I haven't seen you much lately, even though we live in the same district." He said that to me sarcastically.

"You're the one who's always busy." I responded, expressing my annoyance by rolling my eyes.

"Then, if you're not busy, you should meet me when I ask you to hang out together." He flicked his finger on my forehead. My, that hurts.

"It hurt, you baka brother." I glare at him.

"You're the stubborn one. Harry, you go first. I need to talk with your stupid cousin for a while. Tell grandfather we'll be there soon." He said that to Harry, and Harry just nodded his head. Why did you agree with him, Harry? Then my brother looks at me.

"How's your working life with Levi Ackerman?" The first thing he will ask every time we meet. There it is.

"Normal, as usual." I replied, uninterested.

"The same answer as always." He pokes me in the head. He always treats me like a kid.

"Then don't ask." As always, I'm never serious with him when he asks about this thing.

"Okay, then I'll go straight to the point. Charles, are you sure you don't want to be a doctor anymore? You don't want to be the heir?" Huh, the same thing happens whenever we meet. By the way, my brother refers to me as Charles, not Haruka.

"Brother, please, not this thing again." I look at him with a displeased face. I didn't come here today to hear this.

"Why don't you like being an heir so much?" How many times has he asked me this question? He should know the answer by now.

"Brother, I told you I just want to live an ordinary life." I sigh.

"Then why don't you just be a doctor? If you don't want to be the heir, you don't have to. But just come back to Auclair Hospital as the doctor there. We can work together also." He begged me. Since we were children, my brother has wanted me to be a doctor alongside him. When I was a doctor before, he was the happiest person, but I'm sorry I can't be a doctor anymore.

"I'm sorry, brother, but you already know the answer. As long as I'm a doctor there, father will do everything he can to make me an heir, and I don't want that. So please, I hope this is the last time we talk about this." I look at him, begging with my eyes, like I'm telling him, just let me do what I want in my life.

He sighed before speaking. "Alright, I'm sorry if you feel like I'm forcing you. But if you feel like changing your mind, please do let me know." He smiles, but it's clear that he's disappointed. I just smiled, and we made our way to the main living room.

"Haruka, you're here." My grandfather said as soon as I entered the living room. Everyone is here already.

"Grandfather, it's been a while." I took my steps towards my grandfather and hugged him.

Just a little introduction, my grandfather is the youngest son from one of the nobles from duke families of the United Kingdom, and my grandmother is the Princess of the British Royal Family, Princess Catherine. My grandfather has been living in France for a long time, and that's why the main Auclair Family Residence and Hospital are in France.

"You rarely come home recently." My grandfather said it in a sulking tone, but I know he's just joking around.

"I'm sorry, grandfather. I've been a bit busy recently." I pout, trying to act cute. I'm only like this when I'm with my grandfather and my mother, so just let me be.

"He's not that busy, he just doesn't want to come home." My brother interrupted our conversation, and I glared at him.

"I told you, I'm busy." I stepped on his foot.

"Auch! This kid." He flicked my forehead this time.

"Aniki!" I tried to kick him again, but then my mom's voice stopped us from fighting.

"Enough, both of you. It's always going to be like cats and dogs when you guys meet." My mother sighes and walks towards us.

"Mother." This time, I hugged my mother.

"How's work these days?" My mother asks.

"I was a bit busy recently because we got a new project with Germany. You know, it's an international project, so it's a bit complicated." I explained, and this time, I made sure my brother didn't interrupt. I glared at him, and he just smiled.

"Still, you should come home often." My mother said, smiling.

"Will do, mother." I just pout.

"Your mother's right. You should come home more often." A voice that I don't really want to hear spoke. My father. He just came down from the second floor.

"Father. It's been a while." I lowered my head a little. I don't know why, but my body just responds like that.

"You don't have to greet me like that." My father said that and patted my shoulder.

"So, how's work with the Ackermans?" Again, the same question was asked by my father. Well, he wasn't here before.

"It's been a bit busy recently because we have a new project with Germany." Again, the same answer.

"I see. So, you're enjoying your work nowadays?" My father asked, smiling, but I could say there was a different meaning behind that.

"I've been enjoying my work much better recently." I said, smiling as well, and I can see my father's expression slightly changed. I know he doesn't really agree with the work I'm doing right now, but he couldn't do anything. Well, as long as my grandfather is here.

"I'm glad to hear that. Well, if you ever had a change of heart, you're always welcome to come back to be a doctor." I know that's his true intention, and he should know my answer already. I took a glance at my mother and brother at the same time. Their facial expressions changed a bit.

"Thank you, father, but I don't think it will happen. I'm happy with the life I'm living right now." I smiled.

"Charles, you…"

"I called everyone here today to celebrate Harry, who just finished his studies. Charlie, it's not the time to talk about this now." My grandfather cut off my father's words.

"I'm sorry, father." My father lowered his head a bit while apologising.

"Come. We don't want to keep everyone waiting." My grandfather said so, and we walked towards the centre of the living room, where everyone was gathering.
