Chapter 17 - Something Interesting

*sniffles sniffle*

Brooke had been sitting in Sutton's living room, she had gone there immediately she left Brandon's apartment.

Her eyes filled with tears and she had since been pouring her heart out to Brandon's mother, hoping for some sympathy, some understanding and possibly a solution.

Brooke knew that no one had as much influence on Brandon like Sutton did, if there was anyone who could set Brandon straight it would be her. To Brooke's surprise, Sutton had been cold and dismissive.

Sutton stared across at Brooke with irritation and sighed in exasperation. She had very little patience for tears and as she looked at the shivering mess before her she wondered what she had thought in the first place choosing this weak child for her precious son.

Brooke raised hopeful eyes up at Sutton and her mother in-law took in the wet and red rimmed eyes and looked away.

"You would not believe how he just walked out on me, Brandon does not respect me."

"And I very much doubt that he will respect you anymore now that you have come running to me with this little problem." Sutton said as she looked at her side, "Is this how you plan to keep my son from thinking about that bastard sister of yours?"

Brooke faltered at Sutton's words.

"It's just that I don't understand," she continued, her voice trembling slightly. "Brandon used to be so excited about our future together. Now, he's... I don't know, Distant."

Sutton sipped her tea, her expression unreadable. "Brandon is a good boy," she said finally. "He just needs some time to think."

Brooke felt a pang of frustration, she had hoped Sutton would be more supportive, more understanding. Instead she was here supporting her son. "But this is not just about thinking," she protested. "It's about commitment. It's about our future."

Sutton sighed. "I know, dear child. I know. But sometimes, men need space to figure things out."

Brooke felt a wave of anger wash over her as she wondered how Sutton could be so dismissive of her feelings. How could she be so understanding of Brandon's indecision when they both wanted the same thing unless things had changed.

"Space?" Brooke repeated, her voice rising. "What kind of space does he need? He is going to be my fiancé!"

Sutton raised an eyebrow. "Well, perhaps he's not ready for that yet," she suggested, "Or more specifically maybe I made an excuse choosing you for Brandon."

Brooke felt fear creeping up her spine and she gulped at the thought of Brandon being taken away from her. She could not afford to let him lose, not when Lyse was still hanging around probably waiting for an opportunity to get back together with Brandon.

She felt so alone, so unsupported. "Please don't say that, I am the right choice." she asked eagerly, her voice trembling. "I can't lose Brandon."

Sutton shrugged. "Then show me that dear, don't make me regret the choice that I made."

Brooke nodded quickly and wiped her tears.

"I promise that I will not disappoint you." She said.

"Good." Sutton said dismissively and moved unto another topic, " have you spoken to the caterers like I asked you to?"

Soon both women were engrossed in conversations about the upcoming engagement and when Brooke left, Sutton's eyes narrowed. 'The girl was disappointing, surely she did not expect to come with ever single problem she encountered.'

'On the other hand Brooke was pretty malleable which was far better than her half sister. It would have been a horrible shame if she had allowed that marriage to happen between her son and a stinking gold digger.'

Sutton decided to watch how things went, time would determine in Brooke was actually the daughter in-law.

As Brooke drove out of the Marlowe mansion she looked forward to a time when she would live there and host parties for her friends and family.

But first of all she would have to deal with her Lyse sized problem, she figured that if she was able to get Lyse out of the picture then Brandon would have no other choice than to dedicate his time entirely to her.

But first she would need to come up with a plan. When she got home she ran straight to her room and aimlessly scrolled on her phone when she got a phone call.

"Hey Candice, are you back? How are you doing?"

"I just got back, do you want to go out for drinks? I have something that I think you will find very interesting."

"Something Interesting? What could it be?" Brooke asked, her curiosity piqued.

"When you come you are going to see it and I promise it won't disappoint, you are going to thank me."

She was of a mind to just stay home and lick her wounds but on second thought she decided to go out, maybe Candice did have something that could cheer her up.

Brooke got off her bed and prepared to go out, wondering what it was that Candice had that would be so interesting to her.
