Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Potion Swap

Elyas had always harbored a deep-seated fear of potion class. It was one of those things that seemed deceptively simple but, in practice, was a minefield of potential disasters. His previous attempts had resulted in a series of magical mishaps that would have made any potion master weep. But today was different. Today, Elyas was determined to defy the odds and brew a potion of enhanced strength without turning it into an explosive fiasco.

The class was abuzz with activity. Students carefully measured ingredients, stirred cauldrons, and occasionally glanced nervously at Professor Grimbald, who was patrolling the aisles with a critical eye. Elyas, with his sleeves rolled up and a determined glint in his eye, was focused on his bubbling concoction. For once, things seemed to be going well. The potion was a vibrant shade of emerald green, and the bubbles emitted a pleasant, fizzy sound.

Professor Grimbald, who had initially looked at Elyas's potion with skepticism, now offered an approving nod. Elyas's confidence soared. He had finally done something right.

Elyas (beaming): "I think I'm actually going to ace this one!"

Just as he was about to bottle his potion, Marlowe, who had been lurking nearby with the air of someone who knew all the secrets of potion-making, leaned over with a mischievous grin.

Marlowe (cheerfully): "You know, Elyas, if you add just a touch of griffin's claw, it makes the potion last longer! It's a real game-changer."

Elyas, always eager to please his friends and boost his potion's efficacy, took Marlowe's advice to heart. He rummaged through his potion ingredients, found a small vial of griffin's claw, and added it to his potion with a flourish. The potion hissed and fumed, but Elyas, brimming with optimism, was convinced it was just a reaction to the powerful enhancement.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the potion class. Elyas, triumphant, met Kellen and Seraphina in the courtyard, eager to show off his supposedly perfect creation.

Elyas (proudly): "Look at this! I finally brewed the perfect potion of enhanced strength. Want to try it?"

Kellen, always up for a bit of mischief and adventure, took the proffered bottle with a smirk.

Kellen (grinning): "Sure, why not? Let's see what all the fuss is about."

He took a sip, and for a moment, nothing seemed to happen. Elyas watched, holding his breath. Then, without warning, Kellen's eyes widened in surprise as his body went into overdrive. His legs began to move at an astonishing speed, his form a blur as he sprinted uncontrollably around the courtyard.

Kellen (yelling): "Elyas! Make it stop! I can't stop running!"

Elyas, panic-stricken, attempted to cast a spell to slow Kellen down, but in his flurry of nerves, he tripped over his own feet and sent the potion bottle flying. The bottle crashed to the ground, splashing the remaining potion all over Elyas and Seraphina, who had been watching the spectacle with increasing concern.

Elyas (horrified): "Oh no, not again!"

Moments later, Elyas and Seraphina were both running at breakneck speed, caught up in the potion's unintended side effects. The courtyard transformed into a chaotic blur as the three of them zoomed around in circles. Elyas's attempts to regain control only made things worse, as he crashed into potted plants, bounced off benches, and narrowly avoided collisions with other students.

Seraphina (frustrated): "Elyas! Why does this always happen?! Can't you make a potion without turning us all into speed demons?"

Elyas, struggling to keep up with his own runaway legs, could only manage a frantic response.

Elyas (yelling): "I didn't mean for this to happen! I just wanted a strength potion, not a speed potion!"

The students in the courtyard, initially stunned by the sight of their friends running around like lunatics, quickly realized that something was terribly wrong. A group of them gathered, trying to help by throwing out magical barriers to contain the frenetic trio. Unfortunately, their attempts only seemed to add to the confusion as the barriers wobbled and shifted, creating even more chaos.

Marlowe, who had been watching the scene unfold with a mix of amusement and concern, finally stepped in. He managed to grab Elyas's shoulder as they whizzed past him, trying to shout over the din.

Marlowe (shouting): "Elyas! You need to reverse the potion! Use a slowing charm, quick!"

Elyas, his heart pounding and his mind racing, tried to remember the incantation for a slowing charm. He fumbled with his wand, casting the spell in a series of frantic swishes and flicks. To his relief, the charm began to take effect, gradually slowing their dizzying speed until they were reduced to a more manageable pace.

Kellen, now able to stop running, staggered to a halt, looking disheveled but unharmed. He took a deep breath and gave Elyas a wry smile.

Kellen (panting): "Well, that was an experience. I guess I should thank you for the impromptu workout."

Seraphina, still catching her breath, shot Elyas an exasperated look.

Seraphina: "You've got a real talent for turning even the simplest tasks into epic disasters."

Elyas, red-faced and mortified, could only manage an apologetic smile.

Elyas (sheepishly): "I swear, next time I'll just stick to making tea."

As the crowd began to disperse, some students chuckling at the spectacle while others shook their heads in disbelief, Elyas and his friends regrouped. Marlowe clapped Elyas on the back, clearly enjoying the irony of the situation.

Marlowe (grinning): "Well, you certainly made sure no one will forget today's potion class. Maybe next time, you'll aim for a little less speed and a little more control."

Elyas (sighing): "I guess I've earned a new reputation. From now on, I'll be the guy who turns potions into high-speed chases."

Seraphina (smiling despite herself): "Let's just hope your next potion doesn't come with a side of chaos. Or if it does, at least we'll be prepared for it."

As the sun began to set and the courtyard finally returned to normal, Elyas, Kellen, and Seraphina walked back to their dorms, their conversation punctuated by occasional bursts of laughter. Despite the chaos, Elyas couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie and relief. His friends had once again proven their support and resilience, even in the face of his magical mishaps.

Elyas (to himself): "Well, here's hoping the next potion I make is a little less… explosive."

With that thought in mind, Elyas looked forward to a quieter evening, free from the unexpected side effects of his magical experiments.
