It was a crisp morning at the academy, and excitement buzzed in the air as students prepared for the day's lesson in familiar-keeping class. Today's task was to summon and bond with magical pets, a staple of any budding mage's education. Elyas, typically a bundle of nerves, was unusually confident. This was going to be his moment to shine—after all, what could go wrong with summoning a cute, baby dragon?
As the students gathered around their summoning circles, Elyas stared determinedly at his spellbook. His classmates—serene and practiced—successfully summoned tiny owls, curious cats, and even a playful fox or two. Elyas, however, was aiming for the stars. He wanted to summon a baby dragon, the pinnacle of magical pets.
He took a deep breath, muttering the incantation with utmost seriousness.
Elyas (concentrating): "Draconis minor ex nihilo!"
The magical energies swirled and crackled. The room fell silent as everyone waited to see Elyas's creation. A shimmering portal opened, and out stepped... not a baby dragon, but a creature that looked like it had been designed by a very confused artist.
It was a gigantic chicken with scales, horns, and a long, serpentine tail—a full-grown magical beast, with feathers that sparkled in every color imaginable. It let out a loud, enthusiastic squawk that shook the walls, immediately drawing everyone's attention.
Professor Aldwin, who had been observing the class with a stern gaze, blinked in disbelief.
Professor Aldwin (stunned): "Elyas... what in the name of magic is that?"
Elyas (sweating nervously): "It's... supposed to be a dragon!"
The creature, seemingly delighted by its new surroundings, began to flail its enormous wings, knocking over tables and sending chairs skidding across the floor. The other familiars—tiny and non-threatening—scrambled in panic, darting under desks and climbing up the walls.
One poor owl flapped frantically, only to get tangled in a length of streamers, which the chicken-dragon-thing promptly pecked at with curiosity. The classroom had devolved into a chaotic scene of squawking, flapping, and the occasional terrified shriek from a student.
Elyas (frantically): "Oh no, oh no, oh no!"
He stumbled around the room, trying to remember the counter-spell. He flung his wand around, casting spells that seemed to only make things worse. Instead of calming the beast, his magic caused it to do an interpretive dance—complete with pirouettes and dramatic wing flaps—that somehow sent even more chaos into the room.
Kellen, who had been standing at a safe distance, watched with a mix of horror and amusement. He shook his head as the beast, now in a full-blown tantrum, began pecking at Elyas's robe.
Kellen (snickering): "Looks like your dragon's got some serious attitude problems."
Elyas shot him a desperate look, but before he could respond, Seraphina swooped in. She had been watching the mayhem unfold from the doorway and decided that action was required.
Seraphina (calmly): "Stand back, Elyas. I'll handle this."
She approached the rampaging creature with a measured, authoritative air. Whispering a few calming words and casting a well-practiced charm, she managed to calm the beast down. It gradually stopped squawking and flapping, its feathers settling into a more relaxed state.
The beast, now slightly more docile, began to peck at Seraphina's shoe with what could only be described as sheepish curiosity. The transformation from menacing menace to awkward, oversized chicken was nearly complete.
Professor Aldwin, having observed the entire debacle, managed to suppress a chuckle as he approached Elyas.
Professor Aldwin (dryly): "Elyas, I must say, that's a new take on magical pets. Just... perhaps next time, aim for a creature that doesn't have the temperament of a runaway circus act."
Elyas (sheepishly): "I... I'll try. I really will."
As the class resumed its normal rhythm, the giant chicken-dragon continued to peck at Seraphina's shoe, apparently content with its newfound attention. The other students slowly emerged from their hiding spots, many of them still eyeing the creature with wariness.
Seraphina, with her usual grace, took the giant beast by the wings and guided it towards a more suitable corner of the room. She spoke to it soothingly, and the beast followed along, looking almost apologetic.
Kellen, who had finally stopped laughing, gave Elyas a reassuring pat on the back.
Kellen (grinning): "Well, at least you made history. I've never seen a dragon-chicken hybrid before."
Elyas (smiling despite himself): "I guess I've got that going for me."
As the class ended, Elyas and his classmates left the room with a story they'd be recounting for years. Elyas's magical pet mishap would become one of those legendary tales told around the academy for generations to come.
Walking back to his dorm, Elyas felt a sense of relief mixed with embarrassment. Despite the chaos, he had managed to learn an important lesson about magical pets—and about himself. He wasn't sure what his next magical experiment would be, but he was certain of one thing: it would be hard to top the day he inadvertently summoned the world's most confused dragon.
Elyas (to himself): "Well, I suppose every great mage has their share of… interesting moments."
And with that, Elyas chuckled and headed off, ready for whatever magical mishaps awaited him next.
