Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Unexpected Hero

Elyas had endured his share of magical mishaps, but today presented an opportunity for redemption—or at least, he hoped so. The academy grounds were in chaos. A rogue griffin, having escaped from its magical containment, was rampaging through the courtyard, sending students and faculty alike into a frenzy. Claws, wings, and an impressive display of magical fireworks were causing havoc everywhere.

Elyas, with his trusty sidekicks—Kellen, Seraphina, and Marlowe—stood at the edge of the chaos. The griffin, a majestic beast with a lion's body and an eagle's head, was currently engaged in an epic battle with a fountain, which it was winning decisively.

Kellen (nervously peering at the griffin): "So... what's the plan, Elyas?"

Elyas (trying to channel his inner hero): "Um, distract it, and I'll try to bind it with magic."

Kellen raised an eyebrow, but hey, a plan was a plan. He took a deep breath and launched a fireball toward the griffin, which exploded into a spectacular burst of sparks. The griffin's head whipped around, and it let out a mighty roar that shook the nearby trees.

The griffin's attention was firmly on the new, fiery intruder, giving Elyas a chance to act. He raised his wand with all the confidence he could muster and began to recite the binding spell. The words stumbled out of his mouth, and the air shimmered with magic.

Elyas (muttering): "Incolamus... uh, bindus—no, wait, that's not—"

Instead of neatly tying up the griffin, Elyas's spell went awry. Vines erupted from the ground with a violent spurt, curling and twisting as if possessed by an unruly garden gnome. They grew and grew, quickly entangling not only the griffin but also Elyas, Kellen, and Marlowe.

Kellen (yelling): "Elyas! I thought you said you had this!"

Elyas (struggling through the vines): "I was aiming for the griffin! These vines have a mind of their own!"

The griffin, now trapped in a chaotic mess of vines, flapped its wings and roared in confusion. The sight was almost comical—like a lion trying to escape a particularly aggressive salad.

Marlowe, who had been caught in the middle of the vine tangle, was now trying to play a soothing melody on his lute to calm the beast. The griffin, however, seemed more intrigued by the spectacle of a lute player trapped in a mess of green tendrils than the soothing music itself.

Marlowe (struggling to play): "I think it prefers heavy metal."

Seraphina, watching the unfolding chaos with a mix of disbelief and determination, stepped in. With a confident wave of her wand and a few well-chosen words, she cast a precise spell that sliced through the vines with a flourish, calming the griffin and unwrapping Elyas, Kellen, and Marlowe from their leafy prison.

Seraphina (smiling wryly): "Well, that was certainly... something. Good job on the, uh, creative crowd control."

Elyas, now free and covered in dirt and stray vines, stood up, brushing himself off. He looked over at the griffin, which had calmed down considerably, and then at his friends, who were all giving him a mixture of relief and amusement.

Elyas (sighing): "I guess I'm not quite ready for griffin-wrangling just yet."

Kellen (patting him on the back): "Hey, at least you made the griffin's day interesting."

Marlowe (cheerfully): "Yeah, who knew griffins were so into plant life? It might just become the next big thing in griffin cuisine."

Seraphina (smiling): "Well, Elyas, it wasn't perfect... but you did help. The griffin's no longer rampaging, and that's thanks to everyone's efforts—including yours."

Elyas looked at the griffin, which was now calmly lying down, apparently resigned to its unexpected spa treatment. He felt a surge of pride despite the mishaps.

Elyas (grinning): "Thanks, everyone. I guess even if my magic doesn't always go as planned, at least it's good for a laugh."

The griffin gave a soft, almost contented growl as if agreeing with Elyas. As the faculty arrived to manage the aftermath and calm the remaining students, Elyas and his friends took a moment to catch their breath.

Kellen (laughing): "You know, Elyas, you might not be the most conventional hero, but you're definitely one of the most entertaining."

Marlowe (nodding): "And think of the stories we'll have to tell. 'The Day Elyas Turned a Griffin into a Vine Salad' will be a classic."

Seraphina (smiling warmly): "You did well today, Elyas. Sometimes, being a hero isn't about being perfect—it's about showing up and doing your best."

Elyas looked around at his friends and the now peaceful griffin, feeling a sense of accomplishment. Despite the chaos and the magical mishaps, he had managed to make a difference. It was moments like these that reminded him that even if he wasn't perfect, he was still part of something special.

As the group walked away from the scene, Elyas couldn't help but chuckle. After all, being an unexpected hero had its perks—even if it came with a side of tangled vines and confused griffins.
