Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Teleportation Disaster (Again)

Elyas stood in the courtyard of Arcanis Academy, bracing himself for yet another attempt at mastering teleportation. After the last incident where he had ended up in a men's bathroom, he had developed a deep-seated dread of teleportation spells. But in the rigorous world of magical education, avoiding challenges wasn't an option—especially when it was part of the curriculum.

Today, Seraphina was his appointed supervisor, her face a mixture of encouragement and guarded apprehension. She stood a few feet away, ready to intervene if things went awry.

Seraphina (with an encouraging smile): "Alright, Elyas. This time, we're aiming for a simple teleportation across the courtyard—no more than twenty feet. Focus on the spot where you want to appear. Visualize it clearly and keep your concentration."

Elyas took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He imagined the target location—right in the middle of the courtyard, away from the various hazards of the academy. He could almost see the fountain, the flowerbeds, and the students lounging about.

Elyas (muttering to himself): "Picture the courtyard. Picture the courtyard. No more bathrooms. No more…"

With a final whisper of the spell, Elyas felt that familiar tug of magic pulling him through space. He opened his eyes, expecting to find himself in the designated spot.

Instead, Elyas was met with a gust of wind and a panoramic view of the academy's roof. He was standing precariously close to the edge, the ground far below looking dangerously distant.

Elyas (screaming internally): "Why does it always have to be like this?!"

He wobbled on the rooftop, trying to steady himself. His heart raced as he glanced around, noting the flashing warning signs and the decorative gargoyles—none of which were helpful for his current predicament.

From down below, Seraphina's sharp eyes caught sight of Elyas's unfortunate location. She gasped and shouted up to him.

Seraphina (shouting, trying to remain calm): "Elyas! Don't move! I'm coming up!"

But Elyas, panicking, had other plans. He didn't want to wait around for a rescue; he wanted to fix the situation himself. In his frantic state, he attempted another teleportation spell. His intent was to get back to the courtyard, but as usual, his magic had other ideas.

The familiar tug of teleportation whisked Elyas away, and he reappeared—this time, in the middle of the academy's dining hall. But his arrival was anything but smooth. Elyas materialized right on top of a massive banquet table.

The grand table, laden with delectable dishes, was sent into chaos. Plates, glasses, and a mountain of food went flying. Elyas landed awkwardly among the remains of a roast pig and a cascade of mashed potatoes.

Elyas (mortified, struggling to extricate himself from the debris): "I was... trying to go to the courtyard!"

The dining hall fell into stunned silence. Students and faculty alike stared at Elyas with wide eyes. Professor Grimbald, who had been enjoying a leisurely meal, was now standing with his mouth agape, clutching a fork like a weapon.

Professor Grimbald (dismayed): "Elyas, again?! What on earth were you trying to do?"

Elyas, covered in gravy and bits of food, tried to stand up, his face burning with embarrassment. He looked around at the disheveled banquet and the scattered guests.

Elyas (sheepishly): "I swear, this wasn't intentional. I was just trying to teleport across the courtyard."

Just then, Seraphina burst into the dining hall, her face flushed from running up the stairs. She took one look at the scene and let out a sigh of both relief and exasperation.

Seraphina (walking over, shaking her head): "I see we've had a... change in plans."

Elyas (desperately trying to clean himself off): "You don't understand. Every time I try to teleport, something goes wrong. It's like the universe has it out for me."

Seraphina (trying to hold back a laugh): "Well, at least you've given everyone an unforgettable dining experience."

As Seraphina helped Elyas pick up the pieces of the shattered banquet, Marlowe wandered in, intrigued by the commotion. His eyes widened at the sight of Elyas smeared in mashed potatoes and salad dressing.

Marlowe (grinning widely): "Ah, Elyas! I see you've decided to crash the banquet. Quite literally, I must say."

Elyas (grimacing): "This is not how I wanted to make an impression."

Marlowe (chuckling): "Well, now you have a story to tell—'The Day Elyas Teleported into a Feast.'"

Professor Grimbald, though annoyed, was not entirely unsympathetic. He approached Elyas, shaking his head.

Professor Grimbald (sighing): "Elyas, you really need to work on your control. This is the second time you've caused a disaster with teleportation."

Elyas (looking contrite): "I know, Professor. I'm trying. Really, I am."

Seraphina stepped in, her expression softening.

Seraphina (to Professor Grimbald): "Perhaps we should give him a bit more practice before we assess his skills."

Professor Grimbald (relenting): "Very well. But Elyas, I expect you to clean up this mess and avoid any more... unexpected entrances."

Elyas (nodding vigorously): "Understood. I'll make sure this never happens again."

As Elyas and Seraphina helped clean up the remnants of the banquet, Marlowe took the opportunity to compose a new song, inspired by the latest escapade.

Marlowe (singing playfully): "Oh Elyas, brave and true, teleporting through and through. From rooftops high to feasts so grand, he makes an entrance so unplanned!"

Elyas (groaning): "Thanks, Marlowe. Really. I appreciate it."

Despite the chaos, Elyas couldn't help but see the humor in the situation. The mishap had not only resulted in a spectacular mess but had also strengthened the camaraderie among his friends. As he glanced at the remains of the banquet and the amused faces of his peers, Elyas realized that while magic might not always go as planned, the support of friends made even the most embarrassing moments bearable.

And so, as he looked around at the aftermath of his teleportation disaster, Elyas resolved to keep trying, no matter how many times he landed in the wrong place. After all, magic was about learning from mistakes—and sometimes, making a grand entrance, whether intended or not.
