Chapter 5 - phone call with the alpha

OAKLEY

My grandfather hugged me after my grandmother and then he went to grab my bags out of the car.

"This is quite a bit of stuff for just a visit." He said with a questioning look on his face.

"I will explain everything." I responded.

"Inside. The beta is waiting and the alpha wants us to call him so he can hear what is going on. They want to make sure this isn't some ruse to come at this pack. With all the rogue attacks they can't be to careful. We know your not here to harm anyone but they don't know you." Grams said as she directed me inside.

"I understand." I said while inside I was freaking out. I didn't want everyone to know what happened.

We reached the livingroom and standing there was a man who was tall and built. He had brown hair and looked like he could pass for someone who would be in the military if he was human. Except for the abnormal werewolf height.

"Hello Oakley. I am Beta Jack. It is nice to meet you." He said with his hand outstretched. I shook his hand and gave a small smile.

"You too." I said.

"Let's all sit down and get comfortable. Oakley, I know you just got here but we need to get this out of the way now." My grams said. We all sat around the living room, my grandmother on the couch next to me and the beta and my grandfather in chairs across from me.

"Let me get the alpha on the phone. He's expecting my call." Beta Jack said as he pulled out his phone and started tapping at it. It rang only a few times when a gruff, deep voice answered.

"Hello?" I'm not sure why but something about that voice made me feel comfortable. As comfortable as I could feel when I was about to tell them everything.

"Hello Alpha. I am here with Gene and his mate and their granddaughter. She has just arrived." Beta Jack said.

"Alright. Let's get to it, I don't have a lot of time." The alpha said. A little rude I thought. Everyone turned to look at me and that's when I knew I needed to just get it over with.

So I started from the beginning. The meeting of my mate, his "rules" that I now find to be ridiculous, the way Amber and Bailey treated me, what happened, I showed them the texts from my sister, the beta read them to the alpha and told him what the picture was, and what Bailey had said before I left. I ended with my rejecting him and the pack. Everyone was silent for a few minutes after I finished talking. I could feel the tears pricking at my eyes but I refused to let them fall.

"Oh honey. Does your dad know any of this?" Grams asked as she pulled me into a side hug from next to me on the couch.

"No and please don't tell him, I just want him to be happy." I said. She looked at me with concern but then said ok.

"We can't have a rogue in the pack. She has to join the pack or find somewhere else to go. My dad can do what needs to be done since he is there and I am not. I need to go. Keep me updated on what decisions are made beta." Said the alpha and then the phone went silent. I could see that he had hung up. I started to panic a little. I didn't know what I wanted to do yet or where I wanted to go but I also had no where to go. Join the pack or leave? It seemed as though I didn't have many choices. I looked between my grandparents and the beta.

"Do I have to decide right now?" I asked.

"You heard the alpha. We aren't trying to be mean. There has been to much going on with rogues and it will leave the pack unsettled to have the presence of a rogue within us." The beta said. My grandfather got up and let the room. I heard the front door close behind him. He was upset, which I completely understood. I just hoped he wasn't going to say anything to my dad.

"You can stay here with us as long as you need if you join the pack. No one is going to hurt you here. You can come work at the bakery with me." My grandmother said.

"It might be a good idea. It gives us time to deal with all the emotions and take some time to figure out what we want to do. Plus we can save up some money and such if we work while we are here. And a free place to stay." Haven said from my mind.

"Alright. I'll join the pack." I sighed.

"Alright. I'll let alpha Simon know. I will see if he can come here since you have been through quite a bit and are probably tired." Beta Jack said.

"Thank you." I nodded. I saw his eyes glaze over as he mind linked with alpha Simon. It was silent for a few moments while everyone waited to hear what was going to happen.

"Alright. He will be here in a few moments." Beta Jack said.

"Great. Let's go to the kitchen and get some tea or whatever else you might like to drink." Grams said standing up. We all followed her to the kitchen. She put on the kettle and started pulling out cups, tea packets and hot cocoa packets. After seeing what everyone wanted she started to prepare everyone's drinks. Just as she finished there was a knock at the door. Beta Jack went to answer and was back within a few moments followed by who I was assuming to be alpha Simon. He had black hair with streaks of grey through it, he was a tall and looked like an alpha.

"Hello. I am alpha Simon. I heard we have someone joining the pack. Beta Jack and my son have filled me in on what has happened. I am sorry to hear about what you have gone through." He said shaking my hand. I didn't know what to say. I left my previous pack not just to avoid Amber, Bailey and Derek but also the looks of pity I would be receiving from the pack members when they got word of what was happening. If they didn't already know.

"Don't worry dear. Your story is for you to tell. As acting alpha while my son is away I need to be filled in on all the goings on within the pack but I will not repeat your story to anyone else. It's for you to decide who you want to know or not." Alpha Simon said with a small smile as though he was reading my mind.

"Thank you." I said to him. I was relieved to hear that.

"Beta, Will you alert the pack that a new member is joining while I add her to the pack." Alpha Simon said.

"Yes alpha." Beta Jack said. They went through the process of joining the pack and as soon as the link snapped in place she received a few welcome to the pack mind links. Including her grams. She wasn't sure where her grandfather was but she was hoping everything was okay.

"Alpha. My wolf is a bit special and I know that she is going to want to go for a run as soon as she gets a chance. I was always told to be careful who I shifted in front of." I looked at alpha Simon, hoping he would have some kind of wisdom on this.

He looked thoughtful for a moment and exchanged glances with my grams. It was like they both knew something but it could have just been my mind playing tricks on me. I was a bit tired.

"I am sure that you are pretty tired after the past few days you have had. Why don't you get some rest and tomorrow we will see what you mean by special and go from there. This pack doesn't usually keep secrets about things like a persons wolf and the way they look. I'm sure something can be worked out." Alpha Simon smiled at me as he got up.

"Okay sir. I am pretty tired." I yawned, proving his point. He smiled at me, said his goodbyes and then he and beta Jack left. My grams showed me to the spare bedroom that she said we could turn into my room. I was looking forward to a shopping trip where I could make this room my own space. As soon as I said goodnight to my grams and changed I got into the comfy bed and was fast asleep within a few moments. I could only hope it would be a dreamless night.
