1530 Hours
Captain Erick was smoking on the balcony of the third floor of the Hollander mall. He observed the pillar of smoke and the chaotic scene in the city. A drone hovered a hundred meters away from him.
Waving his hand, and the drone went away. A smirk drawn from his face as returned inside the mall. While walking through the hallway. His phone beeped, notifying a text message he received.
Captain Erick glanced at his phone and saw "Execute" on the notifications. He did not reply to the message and continued on his way.
Back in the makeshift command center. The command staff were monitoring the events from the outside. The feed from the drones and other surveillance equipment. Things looked grim as the horde was gathering."Where have you been?" Major Adams asked Captain Erick.
"Having a smoke." Captain Erick replied to him, returning to his station.
Major Adams observed him as his suspicion rose. He kept it by himself and didn't speak about it.
Dorothy was communicating with her superiors on her phone. She didn't look as composed as she was, knowing how dire their situation was. Knowing of the upcoming police action from the league of nations, she knew time was short. The company should provide exfil as soon as possible."What's the news, ma'am?" Major Adams asked Dorothy.
"Not good. They were having a hard time at their end…" Dorothy replied.
"What do you mean?"
"A no-fly zone declaration prevents the higher ups from sending an aerial exfiltration. Other assets would take time to get here." Dorothy added, affecting the morale of the command staff.
Dorothy's phone chimed as a new text message arrived. Upon reading it, her eyes filled with hopelessness changed. With hope in the words of her higher ups, she talked to her command staff.
"Listen up everyone! A submarine is heading this way. It's our only hope!"
The command staff cheered in reply. Dorothy, however, did not reveal the number of people that could be accommodated. Improving the morale of her subordinates was her goal.
Captain Erick, however, saw through Dorothy. He knew that it would be wishful thinking for a submarine to accommodate everyone with the civilians. He did not bother to protest, but glared at Dorothy for her deceit.
Suddenly, one of the commanding staff looking at her monitor reported. "Bad news! The horde is moving towards our position!!!""Already!?" Dorothy exclaimed, surprised with the turn of events.
"Do we have any anti-drone weapons?" Captain Erick asked everyone in the room.
The room fell silent. With this, Captain Erick felt a sense of triumph. He maintained a stern face, hiding his feelings of accomplishment. "They are all doomed…" Captain Erick thought.
At the rooftop, Marrick scored several hits against the Bio Terror Weapons that were approaching. He downed at least seven of them. Firing his last round, Marrick looked at his commanding officer.
"I'm out!" He yelled, signalling his need for new ammunition.
A mercenary serving as an assistant, approached Marrick and handed him a new set of ammunition. "Thanks!" Marrick said.
The assistant returned to the ammunition storage while Marrick rested a bit. The commanding officer seeing Marrick said, "You, over there!"
"Marrick, sir!" Marrick said, identifying himself.
"Marrick, you take a rest." The commanding officer said and ordered a reserve sniper to take his place.
Whistling sounds filled the air. Hearing this, the commander told everyone to take cover. Marrick scrambled to the ground, covering his ears. Everyone on the rooftop did the same.
Explosions suddenly rocked the area around the mall. The barrage destroyed and damaged some parts of the garage and the entrance to the west wing. Seeing this opportunity, the drones headed to the destroyed west wing, directing the horde of the undead.
After taking cover, Marrick stood up and saw several of the wounded mercenaries. Their commanding officer helped him up and said, "That's enough rest for you! Go and return to your position!"
The explosions from the enemy artillery stopped. The air resounded with the screams of the wounded and the orders of the commanding officer. He coordinated the defense on the rooftop.
As the horde approached the west wing, a huge mech appeared from the inside. It was fifteen feet tall, with two heavy machine guns in both of its arms. The mech unleashed a hail of fire against the incoming horde, leaving mangled bodies.
As the hail of machine gun fire decimated the horde. The remains of the once unstoppable mass of bodies retreated as the drones that controlled them returned. Marrick and the others cheered, seeing the threat neutralized by their fellow mech pilot.
"Is it you, Andre?" Marrick thought, looking at the Mech from the ruins of the west wing.
After the display of its firepower, the mech retreated inside the mall. The whistling sound of mortar fire resumed and explosions rocked near the western wing. The enemy again formed another wave of undead with the drones having their controllers coordinating them."This fight is far from over…" Marrick thought.
