Maia looked up at Aiden, her gaze hazy and unfocused, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. "What…?" Her voice was soft, like she was trying to fight through the fog in her head. But something else was starting to stir. She looked at Aiden like she was seeing him in a whole new way, like he was suddenly the most irresistible thing she'd ever laid eyes on. Her body felt hot, aching, and she wanted him—badly.
Aiden's mind raced. He could see something was seriously wrong. Whatever that guy had drugged her with was starting to hit hard. Her body was swaying, and there was this glazed look in her eyes. The heat radiating off her skin told him her temperature was spiking.
"Maia, stay with me, alright?" Aiden said, his voice steady but urgent as he gripped her shoulders gently. He needed her to focus. "You're gonna be okay. I got this, alright? Just breathe."
