Chapter 64 - Déjà vu

Maia stepped back into the room and found only Aiden awake. Eric, on the other hand, was out cold, snoring softly on the couch. She couldn't help but chuckle to herself. "I leave for five minutes, and he's already snoring," Maia said, trying to break the tension she still felt from her run-in with Amelia.

Aiden greeted her with a tired but warm smile. "Thanks," he said as she handed him a cold coffee. He cracked it open and took a sip. Maia returned the smile, though it felt forced, the weight of the slap she'd just delivered still heavy on her mind.

The air between them was awkward, thick with things unsaid. Both of them were still dealing with the weirdness of what had happened back at the hotel, but for Maia, there was an added layer of guilt and frustration from her encounter with Amelia.

They both spoke at the same time. "I—" 

"Aiden—"
