"I'll take you to the communal lounge of VHA, and there, the witch of fate who is the Star Tower Overseer Irina Wierzuchowska will use her magic to tell which house you belong to. To be a scorpion of Poisontail, a wolf of Windspear, a bat of Nightwing, or a mantis of Mantisclaw like me. You might also hear them calling the Star Tower, the Zodiac Tower instead, it's common here."
"A witch of fate? That's so cool," one of the humans exclaimed, overly excited like they always are, because they have no fucking sense of danger at fucking all. I bet a bottle of a deliciously cold Savva-Cola that by the half of the 5 years, 25 of them will be dead.
"Isn't it? This one is a weirdo, but a powerful weirdo, so its fine."
I clenched my jaw, annoyed with how she was talking about my friend, but unable to bark back, because she has no idea I know her, or that I'm friends with Irina because I'm both Alexandria and Alamea, which is incredibly annoying.
"From that moment on, your life will be settled, everything will change when you are directed to your houses. You came in the right moment, this will probably be the best time in the academy ever, the Royal and Noble Heirs are all here, and the competition has never been so fucking awesome," she beamed with sick joy. "Nothing is decided at final, and we Mantisclaw could finally take down Poisontail and steal the first spot with Crowned Princess Desdemona Hindergrass on the top."
I couldn't help the mocking laughter that bubbled in me, "As if."
She glared at me, finally with that angry challenging glow in her eyes that I was used to, "I don't expect an exchange she-demon to know what I'm talking about, you're a foreigner."
"Oh, sure, but I am certainly going to Poisontail," I gave her a smug devilish grin. "The house I'm in, will win."
"You are arrogant, Alyssa, but I don't think you're your mom."
I barked a laugh, because fuck, I literally am. "Oh, I'm sorry to tell you that, sweetheart, but I am stronger than my mom."
"Impossible, she was a one of a kind demon and,"
"She is," all of my siblings and the twins exclaimed.
And that was it, she turned pale, and that reaction made all of the other exchange kids take a long step away from us. "How?"
"I was born... through an ancient demon tradition that small fae minds like yours wouldn't be able to understand, so it's not worthy explaining it to you, however, I am something that has never been before. I'm special, and mom said I'll be a scorpion. So, I wouldn't be singing victory when I will be in a house opposing to yours, sweetheart," I said it calmly but there was poison dripping down the side of my dark red lips. "I'm focused like mom wasn't."
"Hah," she mocked, "your mom have no power over fate, she knows nothing of which house you will be in, you could be wrong."
"Mmhm," I scoffed, "hope is free, ain't it?"
Oh, and she glared at me for what felt like an hour, before scowling and turning to the others, "This demon is trouble, you'd know better than to stay around her, her mother came through the exchange program and she was a nasty demon who took the top spot for herself, and her grandmother did the same two millennials ago, she's the first demon with a legacy in here, and if she's anything like her grandmother or her mother, or worse even, you would better avoid her."
"Weaklings don't walk with predators," Kat mocked and the fairy glared at her, which really pissed me off.
"Glare at my sister like that again, and I'll punch your eyes next."
"Fucking savage demons," she cursed, with an obvious amount of prejudice in her voice, as expected, this more like it, Markus was an unforeseen diversion.
"Except if we fall in her house," one of the exiled nobles said, a female with golden skin, phtalo green cascading straight hair, pointy ears, tall and slim, all in black with green details here and there, combat boots on, her hands gloved and a turtleneck up telling me she knows better, but her eyes were the most beautiful shade of honey, the perfect in between of gold and brown, and fangs were peaking from her full heart-shaped lips.
The fairy turned to her, frowning, "What?"
"You told us to stay away from Alyssa Valentine, because she's trouble, but we won't need to throw her aside like you are subtly telling us to, if we fall in her house," she exclaimed, and by how the other exiled fallen nobles were side-glaring her, I could tell she isn't very adored by them, I know disdain when I see it. Now, why?
"Bianca, was it?" The fairy scowled, showing the same disdain.
Bianca scoffed, "You know who I am, you have my info."
"Oh, yes, I know. I confess I was surprised they allowed someone of your family to even try being in this process at all!" Could she be from one of the old Noble houses who defended the tyrants in the Great War? One of the main ones?
"I doubt this decision has anything to do with you, fairy!"
Alright, I like the boldness of the kid.
"Bianca Oakenheart Frostfowlsíth," she hissed every word, clearly showing as much disgust for the girl as she showed me, "2995 years old, from both the exiled houses of Oakenheart and Frostfowlsíth, a hybrid of blood witch with ice dragon, daughter of Ariana Oakenheart and Nevio Frostfowlsíth, sole heiress of the right hand of the late tyrant King with the right hand of the dirty-blooded tyrant Queen," that was enough to make everyone look at her with other eyes.
Not our group, I don't thinking my siblings and twins care. But I? I'm extremely interested in this girl, especially because of my newfound interest in the Old Capital. The greedily curious explorer inside of me is dying to ask her about it, because she definitely know it. And maybe her being slightly older than me also makes me want to know more of her, and when her eyes went to mine instead, as she ignored the fairy and crossed the hall we are in to come to me, she smiled as she held her hand up to me.
"Alyssa, right? I'm Bianca," she's slight taller than me.
I took my hand off my pocket and took hers, "Hi."
She chuckled and tilted her head, "You got mesmerizing eyes."
"Oh? Thank you, I love them too, it makes me stand out!"
"Indeed," she grinned amused, "it does indeed."
"These are my sisters, and our three friends," I pointed to them.
But Bianca kept her eyes on me, "Nice to meet you all."
Alright, it's getting weird, "Your eyes are beautiful too."
"Not at all like yours, neither as special, I guarantee you."
Is she flirting with me? "Yours are just as special," I flirted back.
"Hah, what's rotten always stick together, doesn't it? It's just like trash!" The fairy scowled and we both glared at her. "Enough of your useless stupid chit-chatting, we have a timetable to go through," then she opened a really huge portal and just like she did before, she used a wave of magic to push us through, but the bitch left me and Bianca at last, and used a fucking strong amount of magic to throw us through.
So much, my body instantly transformed to avoid me from hurting myself, or Bianca, who I unconsciously grabbed in my arms, my protective instincts kicking in. But I shouldn't have, my parents warned me in all the times I came here not to let them see what I really am, for me not to let my guard down, because the beast in me grows more protective as I grow stronger. They told me nobody could know I'm not just a normal demon.
They couldn't know I am a fox.
